Haven't had one of these in a while so it's go time! Discuss all things coscom.
Try not to single people out and harp on them, that's how threads get deleted.

But in case you didn't know, Admin is still alive and making empty promises and excuses about finishing (or not, in this case) the site update.

OBLIGATORY JASONTERROR COMMENT.

It took them how many years just to bring the marketplace back after it was only supposed to be down for a few months? I hope no one holds their breath on this.

Oh look, JasonTerror picking fights with admin over people picking on him. At least the admin isn't taking his shit.

>> No.7558614

I was honestly surprised to see so many people outright disagreeing and openly complaining to admin about the site. I guess I thought this would be too edgy or aggressive for the coscom crowd. Then again, I don't think people kiss the ground he walks on anymore like they did in years gone by. What reason do they have now? There will never be updates or new features of cosplayers, playing nice doesn't even get better customer service for wigs, and there are a lot of empty promises. The 10 year anniversary "update" was hilarious.

Really I see it as a control issue as well. Admin could've gotten interested volunteers to help fix things up, but nope. I remember way back when they were accepting apps to be a mod, no one ever heard anything from that and that's probably why Hime no Toki is literally the only person ever seen on the site, doing anything.

>> No.7558646

>>7558614

Admin needs to get poor Hime some help. She's the only one active from what I've seen. Jia popped up but that was only to proe that she wasn't a scammer.

>> No.7558693

And the worst fucking part is, I actually LIKED the way the site was set up before the massive update that fucked this shit over in the first place. Sure, it was rudimentary, but it was functional (much like 4chan, which hasn't changed the way it's functioned at its core or is laid out since I started visiting here). But nah dude, they fucked everything over, and still haven't ever finished debugging it. That's why there was such a mass exodus from there to other sites, and why the place is practically dead now. I used to spend so much time on that site, updating my profile and such, now it's just hardly even worth it, because no one is even going to look at my shit ever, so why should I bother?
And fucking cosworx was great! They were such fools to do away with the sweet thing they had going there, customer service for that shop used to be amazing, and they were one of the few places in the early 2000s that sold high quality wigs in a variety of stylable styles, and good colors in the $25-50 range AND they sold thermoplastics too. I also remember they had the absolute best prices on New Look wigs, now you have to go to Amphigory for those, and not only do they have more expensive base prices, they have steeper shipping and you can't use paypal. The minute they rebranded as "Cosplay.com Shopping" and stopped giving a shit about restocking and actually shipping wigs to their customers, Cosworx was dead to me. Made me so sad...
I still get email updates about a lot of the threads was subscribed to, so I have noticed a trend of "the emperor has no clothes" types of replies in the threads in the site headquarters section.

cosworx died when Tristen Citrine and yaya left the company.

>> No.7559564

>>7559559
Yeah, but just because two people left (though I will say when Tristene was working there, you could always get her on the phone by calling the company number if you had a problem) doesn't mean you should let the place fall to complete ruin. That's just laziness and apathy. At that point, stop pretending and just shut the thing down. But oh wait, chumps won't give you money like that...

Cosplay.com had such a good thing, it's incredible had badly they fucked it up. I don't even bother uploading photos there anymore.
They COULD have been the premiere site for all things cosplay and had a very profitable webshop. Instead cosplayers are scattered everywhere. What the hell happened? I wish they'd just sell it off to someone motivated who knew what they were doing.

>>7559596
I agree, it could've been so much more than it is. Admin does have prime real estate with the domain name and could easily get both paid or volunteer help to fix/improve the site, but it's easier for him to make ad revenue and run his porn websites I guess. I laugh to think that they considered paid subscription accounts for the site. At the time they were hashing that out on the site, I said there was no point in asking people to pay for subscriptions to use a busted site. Anyone else remember the proposed plastic membership cards? Hahaha.

I used to be on the forums but since 2010, I slowly stopped visiting the site. Same stupid questions "Is it OK to cosplay if I have short fingernails?" and the like. The level of knowledge and skills have stagnated too. All the talented cosplayers are on facebook, DA, and other sites.

>> No.7559807

So if cosplay.com were to become a site that people actually use again, what would have to change or be added?

>> No.7560324

>>7559807
Photo upload system would have to be completely overhauled. Currently, you have to hand upload 5 photos at a time, and you have to resize them yourself, it's ridiculous. The profiles would have to be more interactive, or at the very least functional and back to where you could look at a person's categorized galleries, which seem to have disappeared. The con schedule they have would have to be updated, and you should be able to add cons to your own schedule and have an interactive page for each con. It needs a loooooot of work though. It could be really good.

>> No.7560397

It's sad. I used to frequent Coscom back in my younger days, and it was always lively and active. Now it just looks like one of those generic webpages for website squatting.

I wish Coscom would just die out. Not only has the marketplace kind of killed resale of costumes, but its just an all around shitty website. It was great for its time but now its just outdated and bad.

I really hope Cospix gets more popularity, but at the same time its lacking the marketplace/forum that coscom has. I do like that they cater towards cosplayers AND photographers, though.

How has the marketplace killed reselling costumes in your opinion?

I sold about 8 of my retired costumes over the past few years either on the marketplace directly or by placing "ads" that link to my actual online shop. Wigs have been pretty easy to sell too. IMO, even though it's old and it sucks, it is a good way to get exposure to selling items you do not want anymore. Every little bit counts. Things could definitely sell faster but I wouldn't say coscom really decreased my chances of selling the things I listed either.

I like cospix and hope they will enstate some more interactive elements like a marketplace or forum. I kind of like on ACP how you can mark your costumes for sale too. The best all-around idea would be to have that option where you can mark costumes for sale AND have them listed in a marketplace section and have them linked together.

That said, while coscom is currently a trainwreck, maybe even a wounded animal begging to be put out of its misery, I can't hate it completely. I found some really helpful, talented cosplayers that I now follow on DA and FB. If I have questions I just ask them directly.

I kind of still like coscom to find more people to attend photoshoots/gatherings for cons. The marketplace is kinda flooded and messy but it gets traffic to sell things. Just sucks that there were a whole lotta scamming that happened there which closed it down in the first place. I jsut stopped updating there altogether

Cospix is nice cause it's cleaner and more focus on pictures. Forums and marketplace might work.

ACParadise has a lot of stuff like con pictures, videos, marketplace, more consistently updated monthly features, and they're the ones who take cares of all the cosplay events at cons. But they have forums as well but there isn't much going on in there.. and marketplace doesn't update too often because there isn't too much traffic. They have almost everything most people look for (con pics, skit vids, events) . Overall it looks a little.. cluttered but I still like it.

Weebs started reselling their stuff from china super cheap, and then 50$ costumes became expected. I see people trying to sell wonderfully made costumes on there for appropriate prices, but theyre forced to constantly drop the price because 13 year olds arent willing to pay.

I am always shocked when I see people with 5000+ posts in just a few years. I've had accounts on some forums for over ten years, and there are maybe a thousand or so posts. Do these people really think everyone wants to read their beginner opinions? The really useful people always seem to have post counts in the mid-hundreds, to low thousands.

Ah, I see what you mean. I guess I am frequently outside of this since I cosplay from more obscure things that China doesn't often make costumes of and what options there are = cosplay trainwreck/joke/super inaccurate and crappy. People who have bought my costumes generally seem to have either seen me wearing them at the con or otherwise and know my work quality.

However, one of my most elaborate costumes I made hasn't sold, likely because of the low price expectation. It's from a series that still has a strong fanbase and I'm selling everything with it (5 pieces of the costume, top hat, wig, props, accessories) literally the buyer just needs to find some socks and shoes. Or maybe it's because I'm a weird size? I am 5'6" and wear US size 4 - 6. I thought I was pretty average/normal, but other cosplayers from the fandom seem a lot heavier than I am so maybe there's something to it.

Also, the "broke student so give me this pretty much for free" excuse is one of my favorites. Pic very related.

This. There are a few forum users who joined within the last 2 years that have exceeded my post count and I joined in 03'. Like holy shit, you really have that much to say even after the site is basically spinning its wheels in the dirt? Really?

Literally there are like a half dozen people I sometimes see post that know what they're talking about. There's one dude who does a lot of spfx makeup etc, usually one prop person, one or two people who know about wigs, one or two who know about makeup, one who knows contacts, and like one person who doesn't suck at sewing and construction. I never spent much time in photography subforums but it seemed like a cluster of "Cosplayers are my bitches I can do whatever I want and make pillowcases with their images" versus "N'uh you cant!"

Trainwrecks man, just trainwrecks. Glad I don't visit the site any more than I do which is solely for convention forums.

I think my favorite part of cosplay.com is how they always seem to be surprised or shocked when the Proud Asian troll comes around. There's always someone to fall for it, it's beautiful.
