It looks like a standard "prom" type dress to me. A lot of the gowns I see in the windows have embellished waists or necklines this season.

I think she pulled off the "Elsa-inspired" prom look without appearing too "costumey". Definitely helps that it's not Elsa's actual ice dress. That would be awkward, especially since long sleeves like that are typical for winter dresses, not so much prom.

I didn't really have any prejudices before I saw the movie, I just watched it because I felt I was missing out on something big. And... I didn't like it. I didn't get why it's so popular. The story fell so flat, it was just your basic boring road trip movie. The conflict was so downplayed and the only interesting character (Elsa) had almost no screen time. Instead we had to follow the actions of Anna who has to be the most annoying Disney princess I've ever seen.

We never got explained why Elsa had magical powers or why she couldn't learn to control them. Elsa stayed the same insecure character thorough the entire movie. She could have stepped up to be a badass and just told Anna to leave her alone boldly herself instead of just cowering in fear. The whole confronting Elsa scene was so stupid and rushed. The whole movie was like that. It tried to pick way too many story elements to be included instead of focusing on one or two. It didn't have the balls to go all the way as a edgy, different story, it's like the writer just went "oh right, I can't do that in a Disney movie, time to derail the plot". The character development was minimal. The music score was bland. I would've really loved to see them include scandic/northern elements in the songs, but instead they gave us your generic obviously-made-for-musical-adaptation broadway pop songs.

I was actually hyped to see a Disney movie about northern Europe. But the only thing referencing them was the amazing Sami song in the opening. And that's it. The rest of the movie could've happened in any part of the world. Comparing to Brave which had a lot of Scottish elements, and Princess and the Frog which had New Jersey written all over it, this was a real disappointment. They just focused on animating the fucking snow and ice instead of trying to study scandinavian culture and somehow bring it to the movie.

It's not a TERRIBLE movie, but I just don't understand why it's so popular. Please tell me.

I think part of it was the visuals and the costumes which were actually really interesting. Another part is the fact that all the hipster/tumblr and nostalgia cultures are currently at their peek which means it's just the right time for a Disney princess movie to come out. Also it had been a long time since there was a Disney princess that really felt like a Disney princess. I mean in Princess & the Frog, she was a frog for most part and they kind of brushed off the whole princess thing at the beginning and for Brave, I think no one really thought of it as a princess movie.
I agree with all of what you said. I don't get how people find this movie iiiiincredible. If it would've been all about Elsa especially with a romantic interest, I would've probably loved it. [OOT] At the very beginning I even stupidly thought she was gonna end up with reindeer dude because both were telling Anna how love at first sight isn't a thing and I thought it would become ironic afterwards when they finally met. Also, they were both loners and I thought reindeer dude never forgot the little crying girl he once saw. It made the movie even more boring when I realized it wasn't gonna happen. [/OOT]
It definitely fell flat. It had potential but never got there. I actually really liked the opening segment. Olaf and Sven were great tertiary/comic-relief characters in my opinion. Let It Go was a good song (didn't really care for it at first, but grew to love it). But everything else didn't even feel like a believable story. It felt so rushed and segmented.
So maybe part of it's success is due to the fact that people were left wanting more. Even thought it was surely unintentional.

I'm more baffled about how people keep talking it's Disney "going back to its roots and original story telling". I can't understand how people compare it to Disney princess classics like Snow White. Anna is a very modern girl with the "I'm so awkward yet so quirky, tee hee" personality. And I agree, the biggest problem of the film was the focus being on Anna instead of Elsa. I would've loved to see a story about Elsa coming to terms with her inner demons and insecurity and a good story about sisterly love instead of the rushed last-minute addition at the end.

Probably because nobody is calling Brave "better than The Lion King" or claiming it to be the pinnacle of deep pro-feminist characters.

The movie was fine but seeing most people obsess over how OMG perfect it is creates a polarizing effect, especially when the characters and plot were flat even for a Disney movie.

It was obvious. If you're a little kid it's not, but if you're an adult familiar with children's story tropes, it was obvious that something was wrong with Hans to subvert the "love at first sight" set up, obvious that Kristoff was her actual match, and obvious that the act of true love would be between the sisters, not Anna and either of the love interests. And that's okay, if I wanted a movie to play out in sophisticated, unexpected ways, I wouldn't be watching a kid's movie. Or, at least, I'd be watching a Pixar kid's movie instead of a Disney musical.

I don't watch the show but wanted to see if they would do the costume better justice than face characters. The costume is pretty boring and there isn't even a bodice from what I saw. Just some bland sparkle velvet dress. It's a pretty mediocre interpretation and the cape is just sad.

I kind of hope to see what their Anna interpretation would be, assuming they do one.

>> No.7552173

How that plot would specifically play out was not obvious, but the fact that Anna and Hans would not end up together should have been obvious to any adult viewer. Their quickie courtship was treated as a silly teenage infatuation with no actual basis besides loneliness (which it was, and just in case you missed it they have several other trusted characters levelheadedly point out that they don't know a single thing about each other). Meaningful love was the entire theme of the movie, so she's not going to end up with the character with whom she has a superficial relationship.

I was honestly hoping that Hans and Anna would mutually decide that they had rushed into commitment too soon, based on their own individual, flawed pasts. I was disappointed that Disney decided to go the obvious route of "...this super nice person.... IS ACTUALLY EVIL" ugh.
Though it does lend some nice subtext to the flawed "Elsa is gay" premise, what with Hans being all "no one's getting anywhere with HER" lol
Anyway, how much longer do you guys give the Frozen fandom? I'm planning to make the nastiest Elsa cosplay and I know I can do it, but I'm worried it will take so long no one will care anymore.
Then again, people still care about Brave. Frozen only seems to get more and more popular with time.

Yes. It was. The pressuring on the "you can't go out with someone you just met", the obviously rushed, overly naive (even for Disney standards) love sequence between Anna and Hans, the nice-looking roadtrip buddy Kristoff, it was really fucking obvious that they wouldn't end up together. But I was expecting the ending to be Hans getting jealous after seeing Kristoff coming on to his woman and snapping into a violent rage, thus turning into a villain. He did turn out out be a villain just like I expected, just a more ruthless one. A Disney movie can not have two men interested in the main lady and have both of them be on the good side. It's like an unbreakable rule in Disney writing.

That and his position in his family+love at first sight. Read nothing about it before hand because I thought the snowman would ruin it. Though like the other anon, I was expecting him to at least exchange some nasty words with Kristoff and then turn villian as opposed to "Oh you're becoming frozen, that actually makes things easier for me. Peace"

I liked it the first time, but the next 3 times I watched it(I'm a nanny)in a close time span, I saw how many issues there were with the movie. Though Hans isn't a major part of the issues, I think they could have done more with him instead of rushing the villian revealed bit.

Pet peeve: really short bodices

I know some people are short waisted, but the front can dip more to the low point and thusly elongate your torso.

this thread is now relevant to my interests.

I'm thinking of using this pattern, since I feel it would have minimum alterations

If you're going for the look that most of the costume dresses for little girls have, this pattern would be a good start, I think you're fine.

There are tons of "Elsa" flavored fabrics at Joanns now too so it should be pretty easy to get some nice colors for this project too.

I'm thinking about doing Elsa's ice dress, and doing it as an A-line skirt under a corset. Well, specifically, a corset cover for the one I already have, so boning won't show with the sequins. I figured on doing that so I can achieve the right silhouette for the character.

Opinions on this kind of idea for the bodice?

Does anyone have a high res reference for the designs on Elsa's ice dress undershirt? I've got the sleeves but I just want to make sure that I've got the design around the shoulders at the front and back right, and I don't really want to base it on another cosplayer's interpretation. Pic related is the closest I've found but it only really shows it at the top of the sleeves.
