one time after my work shift i was shopping around the store i worked at and found a pack of old school pokémon stickers. i figured that since they were so outdated they had to have been dropped by someone so i took them.

a few weeks later i was ringing someone up and they bought the same kind of stickers and they were in our registry and everything.

it was an honest mistake but even if it wasn't i wouldn't feel that bad anyways because i hated working there.

I never felt bad about stealing things. I only ever took things from big stores like walmart, though, so I guess that's why.

I'd never take anything from a small business or a person, but a big company I feel nothing about.

I don't lift anymore though, got caught and won't do it anymore. Luckily I didn't get arrested or anything, just a warning, probably because I started crying and I look like I'm 14.

Guess karma does not want me to be a thief, haha. I am not made to be a shoplifter. Only stealing I do is with my video game characters; all of them pickpocket/steal all the stuff, while I cannot even switch hair accessoires at Primark...

Seriously, I would make more money as a cashier, and not being allowed to keep tips sucks (but please keep in mind we have a different tipping system here, not like in the USA, where a waitress literally depends on tips). It is not like the tip is getting split between employees, it goes all to my father, so I have no regrets. I make sure so keep in mind the amount of tips I recive, and take a small part no one would miss; usually adds up to 20€ if I am lucky.

Last time I did it was about a month ago, I took 2 bracelets, a necklace and 4 phone charms from this tourist trap in Georgia
I've been able to steal about 4 grocery bags full of food before though.

Nothing bad, but I fucking hate the word fandom. All I can think of is annoying people being disgusting and loud and rude. I want to find other people who like the same thing, but I will never associate myself with a "fandom" because the people who do are generally obnoxious and terrible.

On topic, I have stolen all of my cosmetics and shit like that from a US outlet store that is notorious for bad security.

Then I stopped for about a year. Ironically, I was caught "shoplifting" when I accidentally forgot to pay for a thing of fruit at a grocery store. They let me go because who buys their groceries and forgets to pay for fruit. It was a good sign that I quit while I was ahead.

On /cgl/ I'm a huge bitch, doing stuff like being super picky about cosplay details, talking shit about other fans in series I like, etc. When I actually go to a con though, I'm (genuinely) super nice and I get really excited to see people cosplaying from things I love, even if their cosplay is bad. I even try to get pictures of low quality costumes just so the cosplayers get pictures taken of them and get complimented (which I always do when taking pictures), because I worry they won't otherwise. I'm basically a hypocrite, but I've always been a huge softy face to face.

I steal things from my university's dining hall all the time - there's stuff that's on the meal plan and stuff you can buy with real money/university currency loaded on a card, but I feel like since I pay 60k a year to go there, I can take whatever I want tbh. I have a weird system of stealing things at big department stores - mostly fabric and craft stores though.
When I go to cut my fabric, I base how much I'm going to steal on how good the customer service is/store policies are.
I often have a piece thats very close to the "remnant" measurement but any time the person cutting my fabric decides not to give me the discount, I steal the equivalent of what she made me pay.
In my area, the fabric stores are so big and the employees are so mean that it makes almost no difference and I'm never guilty.
It's also how I get most of my zippers for costumes.

I shoplifted a lot as a kid, though. I remember one time I stole a shitload of stuffed cats, and my parents found out and made me go apologize to the store, and I remember that terrible, gut-twisting feeling of guilt. Feels bad man.

At one of my first cons, I stole a bunch of buttons. They were laying along with many others unattended at a table in the middle of the hallway. I thought they were free. I later realized they were for sale but was too scared to give them back without being accused of stealing.

We're not allowed to chase after them or touch them if they try to leave the store, so a bunch of people get off the hook by just screaming about how offended they are or claiming that we're RACIST and then running away.
all that happens, when we find dropped tags, is that we record it in our security log and it comes out of the company's overhead. i've never seen anyone get fired. tbh it's expected.
it's super easy to steal from retailers if you're not stupid. usually security guards are the only ones actually allowed to stop you.

- t-shirts, key chains and promo codes from industry booths
- Photo opportunities from other photographers (i stand behind them and snap pictures and walk away)
- Pens and pencils from the info booth

Best part is this stealing happens in front of staff and security and nothing happens

I never shoplifted until I worked at a cheap retail store. I hate that store now, when I was working in cosmetics I would steal something every day. There were days where I literally crammed so much shit in my pockets I couldn't fit anything else.

I had never been dehumanized as an employee so much before. Even when I was working in housekeeping my boss treated me like a person, but my bosses were asking for too much in too little time without giving me the proper tools to do my job (the first hour of any project was a scavenger hunt to find my supplies). There was never an acknowledgment for anything done correctly, and I got blamed for the shortcomings of a coworker of mine repeatedly.

I would be told the 'customer always comes first' but helping customers takes time away from getting work done - so if I ignored the customer I got yelled at for bad customer service, and if I helped the customer I got yelled at for lack of productivity. In that same line, I would be yelled at for skipping my breaks, and I would be yelled at for not working on something because I was on my break.

I was routinely required to work in parts of the store I had specifically stated I could not work in (allergies, anaphylactic shock) when I was hired and was assured would not be a problem.

Add on to that three department managers, none of them work the same days as eachother, and none of the agree what needs to be done or what projects are priority.

Hate hate hate.

When i was young a lot of my working class friends used to rob this tiny corner shop 4 or 5 times a week, there were no cameras because i expect it couldn't afford it.
I never even entered the shop because i felt too guilty.
I'm working class now but am so weary that i make sure to not even put my hands in my pockets when in a store at all unless its to get my wallet.

Idk I do think it's pretty messed up to steal from a con when the person who put time and effort into is selling it, but if it's like on of those big FUNIMATION booths then whatever
Just never steal from local businesses, and local artists in general (unless they're awful people)

Not from a con, but when I was a kid I wanted to see what stealing was like so when my mom was shopping at Eddie Bauer I went around taking the size stickers off of a bunch of things and putting them on my palm. I held my palm close to me and made sure no one was around to see, but the cashier called me out when my mom went to pay for her things and made me put all the stickers back.

Also on a slightly related note we had this independent video rental place that put their security devices in the "be kind, rewind" stickers (this was back when VHS tapes were still a thing). Because of this, they put them on everything from the video games to the popcorn. Shit got weirder when DVDs started making vhs tapes obsolete and half the store was DVDs with "be kind, rewind" stickers on them.

Like I pretend to knock over something behind the booth, or try and haggle with the sellers ect. so they can just grab whatever they want and not get caught. They do it all the time. For cons, I've been tempted to steal lanyards from this one booth. It's built so where there's not much attention in that area and it's somewhat hidden from the vendor. I've also wanted to steal little candies, and a surprise box of a pmmm figurine because I didn't want to pay for a character I didn't like. Lastly, there was one time where this vendor was genuinely ignoring me. I stood at his booth for almost half an hour waiting to buy one small thing. I was getting pissed at how he would treat people before me, who waited not as long as me. I was just about to take some tf2 pin off of his booth and walk away pissed but right as I was about to, he finally noticed me.

She got greedy, found another chick she really clicked with, and decided she wanted something more than what we had. A couple months later, here we are, both single and lonely. There shouldn't be that much hate for it I understand there are advantages for using brand stuff but if something works, it works. Though at times I prefer certain things and noticed some brands are better than target or cvs things.

For examples, concealer and eyeliner I would want it to be long lasting so I used cheaper stuff and I went through like.. 5 in a year because i have to constantly reapply. With brand names they last longer so I don't have to be so concious of my makeup before posing for a photo in cosplay

Other things such as powders or blushes are easier to apply again with quick pats than other makeup stuff so its ok to get the cheaper /store brands unless there is a type or brand that fits your skin or whatnot.

I do that all the time and let me tell you, it's easy as hell to take the tags off and then melt the plastic back on. Especially for something I only wear once(wedding receptions, parties etc) no one even notices. I buy it a few days before and then bring it back.

Another thing is that if you simply -have- the tags with you you'll get the discount, since those tagging machines are at every store pretty much.

I know that a lot of people have very bad views about socialism and don't seem to understand that many countries including the USA have some pseudo-socialist policies. So getting active and getting out there is as easy as presenting information about as mild things such as workers unions, universal health care or even just company benefits being an example of light socialist principles to get people to do some research and really think about things.

As someone who's been to protests(mostly involving worker mistreatment) I know that many people share the 'fuck the man' sentiment when it involves stealing, and all I can say to that is even though it would be a much better world if we could all just have the necessities like that, it's not happened yet so acting like it has isn't going to force it, we need to make real headway.

I guess, all I'm getting at is that the other anon may think that they're helping by 'justly taking overpriced goods' or something like that, but I agree that they aren't, though many would believe that they are.

I've actually done this, yeah. I go through moods of playing certain games nonstop for maybe a few days or a week and then get bored and uninstall it. Any game that holds my interest for longer than that I will get the hard copy. shit was very expensive, even with employee discount, and as long as you weren't doing it in front of everyone it was real easy

i had a cardboard box i carried my supplies in like everyone else, and i would just put a few things in there like some eyeshadow, hand cream, nail polish (it was shit because it was organic and non toxic), lip balm, etc.
all organic stuff, all fairly expensive

The bit about them not leaving post isn't true. I work at a smaller Walmart and I've seen managers and security RUN out the door and physically catch people. They'll chase you the down, and if they don't catch you they'll make sure they memorize your face and get you the next time.

On a different note, it's totally bullshit to think that it's totally ok to steal from Walmart. We get paid just barely above minimum wage, and we get a bonus at the end of the year if people didn't steal too much. This is crucial for people trying to raise families on 28 hours (full-time!) a week. Associates in the departments with high theft personally get in trouble if too much is being stolen. Our hours are based off of how much money the store makes, the more people steal the less hours we get.
It's not an issue I get really worked up about, but you have serious issues if you think nobody is hurt from this kind of thing.
