Three months till AX seagulls.

It seems the theme this year is all about Sailor Moon and we might get another Sailor Moon announcement soon. This might be all similar to AX 2011 when it was nothing but Miku, Miku, and Miku!

So who's all going?

>> No.7482363

Newbie from the last thread - just wanted to say thanks to the people who gave advice! I'm so excited!

I've got like four cosplays lined up... Three of them have jackets. I'm from Texas so I'm used to it but... Is there a way to stay inside?

>> No.7482377

>>7482310

I don't like these "themed" years.

I've been to AX since '06, and it's had its up and downs. I'll still always go though. It's "the" con to go if you're anywhere near LA.

>> No.7482528

>>7482363
Considering a majority of the convention takes place inside the convention center... yes?

Majority of the time, the only time you'll be outdoors is to wait in line to pick up your badge, go back to your hotel, get food that's not overpriced shitty convention center food, and wait in line to pick up your badge.

>> No.7482554

Oh just in case, hotels from what I checked have been slightly opened if anyone wants to grab

I'm just gonna ignore all the themed bullshit and have some fun doing some crazy cosplays

>> No.7482559

the only reason to go outside is for the amazing bacon wrapped hotdogs. Those things are so delicious. And cheap too if you know how to bargain!

People go outside? Really? I went outside once for doing fire tricks but other then that there's no reason to be outside with everyone and their mothers trying to get inside + LA heat

>>7482559
Agreed. I'm not terribly a fan myself but what I've come to expect is that the convention itself isn't going to entertain me, so I gotta come up with my own fun.

Is it normal for AX to not announce new guests 3 months away from the con? I have a bad feeling its going to be like 2 - 3 other guests and thats it.

>> No.7482942

>>7482528
I meant things like skybridges and underground tunnel connections getting from hotels to con centers and the like. But thank you, this doesn't seem too bad.

>> No.7482943

AX does most of their announcements in the month or so leading into the con. The best guests are often super last minute imo.

>> No.7482967

The Miku concert announcement happened around a month before AX and that was huge.

I have a good feeling Naoko Takeuchi will be coming to AX this year. The announcement earlier that the voice actors for the Sailor Moon dub are coming is painting a picture that it's a Sailor Moon themed con this year.

im guessing they will premiere the new anime there.

None of those from hotel to con I'm afraid. You either walk in the sweltering heat to and from your hotel or bake in the sun waiting for the shuttle to take you to your destination. It's not too bad once it hits early evening though.

Oh no! See if you can find a roommate? As for transportation, can you take public transit? I'm not sure how far you live, but if it's not TOO far I think it should be doable. Maybe look into Megabus. I've never used it but my friend coming from Norcal only pays about $10 each way.

>> No.7483526

>>7483500
the problem with megabus is that you have to book super fucking early to get the cheap fares. since it's july 4th weekend people always book early as hell. still, megabus (and even the dirty dog - greyhound) is cheap compared to other modes of transportation. greyhound's la station is in the middle of bumfuck youshouldntbehere though. megabus drops you off at union station which is much nicer.

I booked a room at Resident Inn so I sure hope not. I've passed by the building a couple of times on my way through DTLA and from the freeway it looks completed. Honestly, I think you should be fine. It would suck for the Marriott to miss all the revenue from congoers anyhow. I'd book another hotel just in case though. Just make sure you cancel the reservation in June once we find out the Courtyard/Resident Inn is indeed operational.

Even so, and disregarding the new show coming out, it would be nice to see focus panels and themes dedicated to Anime's historical and classic series.

The new fans don't know what they are missing, and end up not forming a good sense of taste since they have no experience with what has come before.

In 2012 they had a positive revenue of 615k, which, considering they had a negative of 259k the year prior (2011), is a good thing. I imagine them having a 10k increase in visitors for 2013 will help a lot. I'm really curious to see how their 2013 financials look but we probably won't see that til near the end of the year.

2012 had a net revenue of 615k (net assets -337k)
2011 had a net revenue of -259k (net assets -952k)
2010 had a net revenue of -1.287m (net assets -693k) (holy fuck Lattanzio)
2009 had a net revenue of 74k (net assets 462k)
2008 had a net revenue of -496k (net assets 388k)
2007 had a net revenue of 111k (net assets 957k)
2006 had a net revenue of 733k (net assets 1.263m)
2005 had a net revenue of -12k (net assets 529k)
2004 had a net revenue of 121k (net assets 541k)

With the above they are definitely making headway even after the disastrous 2010. That, out of all years, is what had the biggest chance of killing AX. Well, maybe 2011-2012 because if they had both been down years then creditors would have definitely taken notice. 2011, while still a loss year, showed that they were at least shrinking that loss. 2012 showed that they could bounce back. Especially given that prior to 2010 EOY they still had positive assets on down years.

Of note is that 2012 had a huge jump in service revenue (3.8m up from 2.6m).

Also it amuses me to no end that the AX Needs and Concerns thread on coscom continues to be posted in long after it was originally made.

>> No.7485386

try to get into SDCC? only reliable way now is to buy a ticket off craigslist when the con comes round. if you aren't already setup your chances are very, very slim if you don't want to pay more than normal prices; they're not even sure they'll have enough for a resale. hotels just got distributed and the non-block hotel prices are high except for mission valley/hotel circle (still $200+ a night)

I'm going this year. I really want to make it big. However I'm working right now and although I have plans to cosplay, because of lack of time, I haven't been able to get anything done. I'm a bit worried but for sure I should at least have the entirety of June available.

Meeting up would be amazing, since I have the feeling this is going to be the last AX I will go to for some time.

Last year I only managed to cosplay Shoma Takakura.

Anyone know if DJ'ing in the concourse hall is allowed? This is very important.
