Let's talk customs. More than likely, we've all faced customs fees. Whether they be small or large, they're horrible to get and we all share a hate for them.

To get the ball rolling, here's a few things to discuss:

>What's the fees like in your country?
>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?
>Longest time your parcel's been stuck in customs?
>Ever gotten lucky on a fairly large order and didn't have to pay customs?
>Does your country have a handlers fee?
>Ever had any problems with customs?

>> No.7479140

>What's the fees like in your country?
70% + taxes

>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?
about 50 dollars for a Madoka BD

>Longest time your parcel's been stuck in customs?
About 2 months

>Ever gotten lucky on a fairly large order and didn't have to pay customs?
Yes, two out of three of my Madoka BDs didn't pay customs.

>Does your country have a handlers fee?
I'm not sure.

>Ever had any problems with customs?
Not really.

>What's the fees like in your country?

20% for orders under 150€, 40% for orders above 150€

>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?

Gonna pay 100€ for an Innocent World order tomorrow. Will try an SS next time to try avoid paying customs.

>Longest time your parcel's been stuck in customs?

Around 2 weeks.

>Ever gotten lucky on a fairly large order and didn't have to pay customs?

I do not make large orders with companies (taoBao) since those will always end up in customs and I would rather pay two or three times for shipping (this would still be cheaper).
Most expensive order were two MM items for about 250€ from a girl in Canada; luckily I did not have to pay customs.

>Does your country have a handlers fee?

Not sure

No, thank god. It is just annoying to drive an hour to the custom office.

Had to pay £30 just to get customs to send me a package with fucking sock glue in it from America. Wasn't worth it at all.

Also they held a Secret Santa gift from getting to me for 2 months and ended up going back to the sender, who kindly sent it again and it got through. Totally worth it.

>What's the fees like in your country?
Well if the item is coming outside of the EU and is over €22 in value(or €45 as a gift), then you are charged depending on what the item is and more importantly what it's made of. Duty is charged if an item is valued at over €130(I think). This can make it expensive to order dearer items as it can work out that you are paying Customs + Duty + Handling Fee. If an item looks undervalued on the CN22 slip then they will look for the Paypal receipt to prove the correct value. If the value is the same they can choose to either, dispute the value and charge you the amount that THEY think is correct or they'll release the package.

>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?
€23.00
This was for a pair of Japanese Zori that I needed for a kimono for a convention I was attending(I ended up not using them, they are still in the box). What annoyed me the most though was having to pay the €6 handling fee for An Post(our postal service) to deliver the package(which they would have done anyway!).

>Longest time your parcel's been stuck in customs?
I have been lucky with customs at most my items have stayed 2-3 days. As long as you are not ordering Airsoft there isn't much of a wait.

>Ever gotten lucky on a fairly large order and didn't have to pay customs?
Yeah, I had purchased a silk Kimono and Gold Zori from a seller on eBay, totalling about $100(I think). I was worried about Customs thinking that my $60 kimono would be worth a lot more. However I was pleasantly surprised when the postman arrived with my package with no Customs fees. Turns out the seller marked the CN22 as $20 used clothing.

>Does your country have a handlers fee?
Yeah if being delivered by An Post €6. By Courier it's €10

>Ever had any problems with customs?
No

A girl from my comm posted the other day that her package from bodyline, containing all of one dress, arrived. With a customs bill. Of 700 euros.

Apparently they estimated its value to be 2000 euros. If she wants to file a complaint about it, she has to pay the bill first and she'll "probably" get the money back later. And apparently bodyline often destroys packages that are returned and asked to be resent.

Poor girl.

In my country, if they estimate the value is higher than what it is marked on the parcel, you have to show the bill(s) at the custom office (and unpack the parcel to make sure you are not lying/no counterfeit colthes or anything) and THEN you have to pay.

Plenty of times.. I prefer to buy from stores directly or professional shopping services instead from private persons because the customs find private sales to be more suspicious for some reasons. Most expensive thing I've got through mail was a Bodyline package (about 200€) that I was sure would get stuck in customs. It didn't.

I recently got a package with two PSP games stuck in customs for a week. Games plus shipping had cost me 70€ and I had to pay an extra 32€ to rescue it from the post office.

Shipping from customs to my city was 18€, which is twice the shipping price I paid to get the package sent from Fukuoka. Bastards.

Protip for fellow Spaniards, never use EMS if you need to get something fast. Since the economic recession hit they assume all EMS packages are valuable and let them rot in customs for days and weeks on end.

20% VAT on all orders over £15 or gifts over £34, plus customs duty on all parcels over £135 (5% for used clothes, 15% or more for new clothes! depending on material). The price of shipping is included in the taxable value.
>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?
Not too much, about £45 on a marked down MBok/Y!J haul ( the shopping service marked down to the cost of the items, not including fees etc, so I think it must have been about 15-25000 yen). I don't make large orders because I know that I'm going to have to pay customs anyway.

This annoys me the most about customs. They treat you like a dangerous criminal, you have to unpack everything and they will ask you uncomfortable questions. One time they wanted me to show them my private e-mail conversations with one seller because my paypal excerpts weren't proof enough. This made me really unconfortable, like they don't have any decency for privacy at all.

It's their job to do so. I have mixed experience with customs; sometimes I have to unpack everything and lay it out, and they might even check the label; anther time they will just birefly glance at the opened parcel and that's it.

>tfw I can never order cute underwear off taobao because of this

Who cares, I bet they have seen worse. Also, as i just said, it varies with every employee; not everyone will take such a detailed look, especially if you tell them it is underwear. I once opened a parcel with a dress inside; the male employee just asked me "Is it a dress?" What infuriates me the most is that they add the shipping costs on top so that you have to pay taxes for that too, even if you can proof how much you paid for shipping.

I've been trying to pay off a stupid $23.39 customs fee from FedEx and they're making it fucking impossible. First I get the invoice and it says I have to go to a FedEx store to get a stupid account number so I can go online because they don't do custom fee payments in-store. Then I get my account number and make an account and there's no god damn place for me to enter the invoice number to pay for the customs fee. I got the invoice in January and it's overdue. I'm waiting for them to contact me back about paying it. I hope it doesn't go to tax and collections because FedEx tried to ruin my dad's credit one time for a $6.00 customs fee because he was in Europe for 4 months and couldn't get his mail.

You have to pay for everything, basically. I make sure I have twice as much money as I need to factor for customs mishaps.

I once ordered a 100$ worth of stuff from sockdreams, and the angry old dude working there at the time just looked at the socks and gave me this dirty look, I think he thought I was in some sort of fetish business. Brazil here. Our taxing system is so rage-inducing I hardly buy anything anymore.

>What's the fees like in your country?
It's usually 60% over the declared value (that + shipping, sometimes).
They often round the numbers up, too, and by a lot. Just the other day I received a package that cost 87 USD and they taxed me as 100 USD.

>Biggest customs fee you've had to pay?
Around 350 BRL. Like 150 USD, or 175 back when my country's economic wasn't as shit and my people didn't gladly hand their asses over so other countries could fuck us.

>Longest time your parcel's been stuck in customs?
Around two weeks or so. Not too long.

>Ever gotten lucky on a fairly large order and didn't have to pay customs?
YES! I bought an AP heart bag from closet child marked as like fucking 7000 JPY and wasn't taxed. Then an OP that came with a huge ass 15000 JPY price that wasn't taxed either. Both came from EMS. I still can't believe how lucky I was with these two.

>Does your country have a handlers fee?
When I use DHL or FedEx, yes. They charge for exactly how much they had to pay for customs, so if the fee was 20 USD, they ask for fee + 20 USD. Insane, I don't use them anymore.

>Ever had any problems with customs?
I almost got arrested once I raged out and nearly threw a credit card machine at the attendant. First they assumed my package was marked down (it wasn't) and attributed to a U$20 pack the value of ~U$120. Then they refused to hand it to me because the package was sent to Mary Sue and my name was Mary Sue Williams. THEN they started whispering to each other whether they could still do something to keep me from getting my package.

I still wish I threw that machine on that woman's face.

From what I've seen, DHL is supposed to be super fast and good if you have a heavy order. So hopefully it'll clear customs fast and get to you in time. When I did my big taobaoo order I was lucky enough that it didn't get stuck in customs so hopefully you will be too.

I live in France and customs can be royals dicks sometimes.

I don't remember the exact rate but there's a fixed amount on top of a % so even if you buy a small item you'll end up paying at least 20€ from what I remember. Apparently that's also why prices are crazy in the Baby Shop and (closed) AP one.

Sometimes I wonder how they even calculate this because they end up with crazy prices and imo they calculate the fixed rate first so the percentage is higher.
You can't really complain because if you don't pay upfront they send back the package, no ifs, no buts, no "I don't have any money right now you dick". Though if you're not at home they keep it for a while. But that's so annoying when you don't have any money on you and they go back with your package and there's nothing you can do.

So now I only order with a SS even from Closet Child because I ended up paying taxes everytime and never pay anything when it doesn't come from a shop. In the end I save a great deal of money.
