I tried this a few weeks ago, thread didn't really take off. Let's try this again.

Hats in lolita! What hats do you like to see with lolita? What hats look really off, and which ones do you love/hate? Looking for hats of all types - berets, boater hats, tricorns, mini hats, etc. from the simple to the elaborate.

As for me, I'd honestly like to know where people get their various hats. So far I only have thrifting and aliexpress or taobao for even boater hats that are less than $50. I could also make my own, but I actually would need a straw hat of some sort to modify, which would take me back to thrifting and to aliexpress again. So honestly asking - how do people get their loliable brimmed hats?

Thank you anon! I love big hats too but have no idea where to get one under 50. I thrifted one for 12 euros but I'm afraid that's rare and very far in between. And because of that, I'm a little afraid to make modifications to it in case I fuck up.

I'd buy from aliexpress but I'm afraid the hats will come flattened in the mail. Have you tried millinery? I really want to get into it, but I don't know how much I would have to practice before I get good results. I'd still really love to though, I'd just like an idea of the investment I have to put in.

I would love to get into millinery but I'm not crafty enough for it to be worth the expense, sadly. Luckily I see so many hats in charity shops around here and I also have a tutor at college with interest in them. There's a few vintage fayres near my home too, I guess I'm quite lucky, you could keep a look out for events or markets like that! You should go nuts with your mods though, its better than having something you sort of like instead of taking a risk that could potentially turn into a hat you love!

Are crowns/mini crowns hats? I'm never sure where the line is, I have lots of pictures of huge hair pieces and over the top head dresses but I don't think they count!

Ahhh you're so lucky! I really want to go shopping tomorrow for hats, maybe I should go do that now. And I guess you're right - i just don't want to ruin the vintage hat that I managed to get for $12. It's got a nice wide brim and a flat top too so it looks quite nice if you position it correctly. But hey, everything comes with a risk, right?

This is a cute idea but I'd make sure to put the hooks on a wall that doesn't get direct sunlight so the hats don't fade,

Particularly if the hats are vintage. Too much sun (or heat) could dry out the glue and cause the more delicate hats to fall apart.
