I really like the Pascal on the right. As far as why there are a lot of bad ones, the costumes aren't simple by any means. There's a lot of detailing in them. I don't think that the cosplayers posted in this thread are horribad by any means. There are some really good ones among the average ones.

I feel like a lot of Tales cosplayers just don't know how to approach a lot of the more complex designs, and a lot of people usually don't have a lot of experience with the biastape/binding.

It's really unfortunate because people try and take the easy way around certain aspects and it ends up looking bad. I see a lot of unstyled wigs, or none at all.

Also, what kind of fabric would you suggest for Luke's white jacket thing? I made it once about 5 years ago with poplin and I was thinking of buying a sportswear twill instead this time because it's a bit more stiff.

Thanks! I actually have the wig base for her already but from past experience white make me look really dark haha. I'm pinning my hopes on dyeing the wig and hoping it will look alright on me because of the red on it.
Though anyone who has done Pascal, I'd appreciate any tips on actually dyeing and what dye they used because I've never dyed a wig before.

You could always try using makeup that's a shade or two lighter? But I definitely think the red will help a lot.

I've tried dyeing with RIT and I would not recommend it. It doesn't take color well and the fibers just get super frizzy. I've used sharpie (directly on the fibers), but it tends to rub off. Same if you use it combined with alcohol.

There's a tutorial somewhere about using acrylic paint + fabric softener somewhere that looked kind of promising? And I think I've heard that FY-ink tends to produce nice results.

If all else fails, you could also sew in wefts!

What I did for my Pascal was buy two of the same wigs one in white and one in red. The red one was pretty much orange so I dyed it using the FW Ink dye method. Then I cut the wigs and sewed the bottom of the red wig to the white. I think it turned out fairly well. Pic related. (Sorry for selfpost)

I am fine with cosplay or crossplay. As to bodytype, I would say I have a slightly athletic build with small chest, hips, and butt. Crossplaying is pretty easy for me. I wouldn't be able to pull off a character like Tear well at all.

My only qualm about Frings or Noelle would be that people might try to shoo me away from gatherings not recognizing the characters since they are rather minor NPCs. Do people at Tales gatherings recognize even minor NPCs?
