The only upside about it was the guaranteed chance of autographs if you wanted to pay out of the ass for them. I regret trying to wait in line for shit an hour before anything, only to have to wait 2 extra hours since everything was delayed.

I was beyond buttmad about the "autograph session" they had for teddyloid, although I'm surprised that they even made something happen... I imagine he didn't show up to closing ceremony or bother letting them reschedule his signing because he was justifiably upset.

For those who paid for super passes and tea tickets and got short-changed on things, there were problems. That's a lot of money to throw down to have the issues that happened. Why is it that nobody criticizes anything on HLC? Whats wrong with discussion on facebook. I guess any tiny bit of disappointment is immediately regarded with this sort of 'well I guess if YOU have a problem you can personally talk to one of us' nonsense.

Maybe they want to try and keep it framed in the positive with an eye to improvement and avoid listening to complaints as well as to keep comments private to avoid public drama.

Hi Elaine.

It's because people can see through the pitiful attempt to stir up drama AND it really wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. Tea has never meant a full meal, even when you go to nice high teas, it's meant to be snacks. The idiots there were expecting to get a full meal out of it.

>> No.7436036

>>7435981
But what precipitated it, why have GLW as a named sponsor then just up and pull the wigs from the show this year?

They are also a local business and hosted con parties last year, gave away lashes, had a booth styling advice, etc.
Charles seems nice, he greeted me last year and complimented my Rhapsody styling at the fashion show and I'm just an out of town nobody. It's just odd so there must be a story behind it.

>> No.7436057

>>7436025
If the Q&A was hijacked, that's unexpected.

Not Elaine and not in your comm but I am an experienced con tea hostess.

Running out of food means poor hostessing. The convention booked a tea with X amount of food but people are greedy and yep, hostesses have to keep an eye on portions and control even self-serve things. Most people have never been to a proper tea and yep, don't know how to behave so hostesses must gently guide them. Sounds like the hostessing was a bit inexperienced, maybe?
And getting snippy and defensive about it is no solution.

'Food and drinks will be served' is not clear that it is a light snack and a true high tea IS a more substantial amount with all three tiers of a tea tray plus one or more teas with cream. A Low Tea, Cream Tea or Dessert Tea is quite different from a High Tea. Sounds like there was some more confusion going on due to inexperience. What type of tea was it supposed to be, exactly? Who was liason with catering staff and in charge of choosing the menu and organizing the room and tabletop setup? Sounds like someone dropped the ball.

Maybe next year, "a delightful selection of petite refreshments will be served in the form of light tea-time treats along with the selections of teas" as a not so gentle hint not to just chow down.

Publishing a tea time etiquette lesson would also be useful, AND the menu...sent out as a PDF with the other details and the rules and dress code with each ticket and as a page on the website with photos from previous years.

Why not just try to throw another event in houston on the same weekend or find another con to meet up at in another city?

Don't post bitching on their Facebook Page. Of course it'll get deleted as they are the gate keepers. All those reviews telling the truth on how bad it was run will soon be deleted soon too.

Post it on your Tumblr, your wall, make a community calling AM out. They will never change. Inform the public how horrible they are.

When John and Deniece try to bully you to take it down you should stand up to them. They are all bark.

The public show know how much of lecherous scum John is. How they horrible treat people who go AM. How much they shit all over any promises. Knowledge is power. If the prospective public know how horrible they run things then they won't show up.

The greatest thing would be for AM to die due to their own massive failures. Bitching about it on 4chan is not going to do shit.

They actually treated Reika pretty poorly as well. She's just very polite and doesn't say anything, but it was pretty obvious that they were using her as a money-making thing.

They changed her schedule last minute so she couldn't judge the cosplay contest like they originally said she would, because they wanted to put he Levi photos at 4 PM on Saturday while the contest "started" at 5. So all she had time for was a walk-on at the end. She also didn't have enough changing time between so she had to go to the tea party AS Levi.

They also rushed her from doing signings to the closing ceremonies to doing MORE LAST MINUTE PICTURES "AHHHREIKAAAAAAA!!!1111!!" but said it would be free and then changed their mind and said we had to buy her book or Prince Tristan poster for $30 (aka the cost of if you pre-reg'd for a book and photo-op anyway). At this time, the convention's security was telling people to GTFO like the hallways RIGHT OUTSIDE HER ROOM were off-limits.

So while they were making it all seem like Reika was being treated like their princess, they were being pretty obvious that they were dragging her everywhere for more money. Honestly, I don't think they really treated ANY of their guests right, but most of them got the short end of the stick.

I've been to San Japan several years and it's always pretty fun. They always seem to fuck up on the autograph lines and stuff involving badge privileges, so if you're desperately wanting to see someone there make sure you get the superpass or whatever. There's a ton more panels however, very few of which got canceled or screwed up, and downtown san antonio is a much better destination spot. As a Houston native, nothing ever goes on downtown after like 5 o clock unless you're going to a wedding or something, and San Antonio's convention center is right on the riverwalk, which is both very pretty and lined with cool stores and resturants.

San Japan calls them Gold Passes. I now get them every year as they take care of us but they could do a little better in making sure we get to the front of the line. Reika was backstage for the cosplay competition (late) and did, in fact, get upset because she WANTED to watch and judge the competition. She had been under the impression she was going to be able to..and Jon never told her that they made the photoshoot conflict so she couldn't judge. She looked so uncomfortable with Jon's awkward questions.

Nightmare won't ever come back, nor anyone with their label. Matsuri treated them so poorly that the manager called in from Japan and had a shit fit. No rehearsals, improper set-up, nothing they were promised and assured them in every way that he would NEVER send another client to AM.

The Baby Panels were awkward because Jon did what everyone has said he did. Those poor girls looked so uncomfortable every time they had to do something. The only time they seemed relaxed was when I saw them in normal clothes headed to the Nightmare concert.

This was my first, and last, Anime Matsuri.

He was such a sleaze. I don't usually make judgements from people just based on appearance, as that is usually biased and full of emotion, but in this instance I will pull a Sherlock Holmes and deduce that his bald-assed head, his cheap suit over a Reika T-shirt and his general yuppie attitude make him the worst person to be in charge of any sort of convention, anime or otherwise.

We had a Lolita Fashion Show last year- pic related- and normally have your typical Lolita 101 and 102 panels. Nothing is on the site because panel submission is open until May- so nobody knows for certain if any of that will happen again. We had an h.Naoto booth last year as well. Other than that our local comm might organize a swap meet or some outside event.

As for Lolita/J-fashion guests I don't think that's high on SJs priority list right now but the staff is very open to guest suggestions, and maybe if J-fashion gets more visibility it might convince them.

I know SJ doesn't really cater to JFashion as it's not something that has been asked for as much as other fan things. Dave tends to listen to suggestions a lot more then other cons in Texas. I'll give him that.

As for A-Kon, and even SJ really, I think there isn't as much of a presence because the coms aren't as pro-active as HLC seems to be. At least in relation to having major events at conventions. AM also has the whole thing with the chairs being huge fans of egl so of course they will happily focus on it.

I think if the DFW groups wanted more lolita events at A-Kon they could probably do it. It's just a matter of having people who can pull off quality events. If you don't have the leadership to take over and plan, then of course there won't be any events.

To be fair, most of the problems stem from tech problems that cause things to start late. It seems like a viscous cycle.

Friday morning: the security are having issues with the badge scanners. This causes the dealers room to open 1 hour later than planned, at 1:30 for superpass and 2:00 for regulars. This means nobody shows up to the putumayo Q&A (canceled).
Friday @ Opening Ceremonies: tech problems cause the ceremony to start ~1 hour late (first event in the main event area). Guests stuck at Opening Ceremonies held back. This causes Nightmare's panel to start 1 hour later than planned, which backs up all events in panel room 3 by an hour. This backs up the Marvel Cosplay contest in the main hall as well. Nightmare's photo op and autograph session get backed up as well.
Friday @ Jfashion Show: Doors open 1 hour late, Fashion Show doesn't start for another hour after everyone is seated. (This is due to tech problems) This backs up Kawehi and Aya's concerts. This also causes the Formal Dance to be (canceled? why?) This also backs up Reika's photo op, and gives her little time to eat in between events. It also screws up the Midori&Akira line, and heavily confuses staff members (when asked, they promptly informed me they 'had no idea, not my problem'.)

Saturday morning: (everything going swimmingly on time actually)
Saturday @ Cosplay Contest: doors do not open on time, contest starts 1.5-2 hours late (tech again?). Reika autograph gets pushed back, more confusion.
Saturday @ Nightmare: concert starts ~2 hours late due to tech issues. this pushes back...
Saturday @ Club AM: starts an hour late after stage is cleared. TeddyLoid starts late as well. @3, security starts forcing people out of the convention center. They also turn the lights on in the rave (supposed to be over, not-so-gentle reminder by security to gtfo). @3:30 Teddyloid is supposed to start doing autographs, everyone getting forced out by security at this point.

>> No.7439619

>>7439614
I don't think it's the Asian bit that matters (as much..), it's that she cosplays so damn much.
With over 500 costumes, nearly any anime fan who cares about cosplay has probably seen her at some point.
Plus the fact that her outfits actually look good helps her more (I mean if someone else had over 500 outfits but they were all broadcloth and hot glue, they'd be famous too, but not in a good way).

What I'm trying to say is that.. okay, if someone cosplayed a lot but they only did characters from one or two series, they'd be popular among those fans, but no one else knows who they are. Reika cosplays from nearly anything (anime-wise, I guess), so tons of fans from tons of different anime have seen her. She has a broad scope. And I think that's the biggest factor to why she's so well-known.

She isn't bringing anything new to the table. I guess it's nice to be able to sew all day and not have a real job like most people.

Cosplay is about fans showing love and it makes me sad to see it turned into a D celebrity status now a days. Reika is a good cosplayer, but she's just a cosplayer. Not a celeb. It looks like the mistreatment continues. This morning, Reika was just dropped off at the airport in the wrong terminal, without a translator to help her get through check in. She was tweeting about not knowing what to do, and thankfully someone was able to help her on twitter. What the actual fuck are you doing AMshitcon?

She's since taken down the post but http://thecreepyhime.tumblr.com mentioned something about being assualted. She exaggerated about a lot of things though so who knows if it really happened. She also was the one who was supposed to run the Lolita 101 panel.

ah it's a closed group. I was thinking about checking it out, since I'm a fairly new lolita and HLC is kinda scaring me off.

really love that rule about no anime profile pics though, wow.

The only event that started on time was the thank you dinner for guests and staff on Sunday night of the con. Had a big cake and everything. Of course J&D would make sure their pat me on the back party would start on time, can't lose an opportunity to jack off in front of the guests!

Yeah, we consider people with fake-ass anime/kawaii names and no sign that they're actual humans, like a photo, to be spam. There's 160 people in the group with 8 active members, we had to cut down on bullshit somehow. Other than that we let basically anyone in, so feel free to join anon!

Seriously? They didn't have an interpreter at least check her in? What the hell is wrong with these people?

can we have less bitching and more pictures? did that person with the photodump ever upload it anywhere?

>> No.7440193

I wouldn't take that to heart. The deadline for submissions is still a ways off. A lot of lolitas were probably waiting til after AM to get the ball rolling. In the past I know there have been panels, swaps, and last year there was a fashion show.

From AM Staffer:

>The GRB and the Hilton have never dealt with an anime convention of this size and both entities needed to adjust accordingly.

Are you fucking serious? Comicpalooza been at the GRB for plenty of years and they're doing fine. Why not just admit that AM is run by a group of incompetent fuckheads who'd rather be all flash and steal all of your cash.

All you have to do to prove this is provide a twitter screencap but you can't even do that.

Thus, the phone game continues.

>I think she was excited because it was her first time in America.
You mean besides being flown out to Hawaii to hang out with Denisce and John before Matsuri. Unless Hawaii doesnt include America now.

>No money for schedules.

Hawaii is a normal vacation spot for Japanese, and that's like saying your first time in America was going to Alaska or Puerto Rico. You know full well it isn't the same thing.
