I liked that Nui's scissor blade, but it was the only way I recognized her as Nui. Otherwise I would've thought she was some shitty Leg Avenue lolita.

I'm hoping there will be more Kill la Kill at San Japan. I'm already tired of Ryuko and Mako cosplays.

That Nonon wig is so weak. You can barely see her hat, and it's supposed to be huge.
Also that Uzu is very clearly a teenage crossplaying girl. Lame. I want to see dudes cosplay him and Houka more often.

Asked this in the last thread right before it died, so I'm putting it out there again.

I'm working on my Satsuki mock-up, and I'm having trouble with the gold "stripes" on un-transformed Junketsu. Do you think it would be better to applique on bias-cut strips, or try to pattern out one or two pieces that fit in? I'm leaning towards applique, but I'm worried it will be hard to get it to lay nicely.

Everything else is turning out fantastic so far, I'm just stuck there.

>> No.7435088

Definitely do the applique. Trying to pattern out pieces when you already have the materials seems silly and overcomplicated.

Their group was obnoxious too. The entire KLK meetup was so unfriendly and full of pretention, it was just uncomfortable. A friend of mine who was new and halfway through the series and cosplaying felt uncomfortable when I brought her to the meetup because the entire group just felt so unwelcoming, so we just left. It was awful. Hopefully the next con will be better.

I was planning on doing a Hoka Inumuta cosplay, but got caught up on his wires. Does anyone know a good way to do them? I was thinking somehow get some sort of thin light fibre or something and wrap it with light blue something or maybe put it in tubes.

It was more like those that hadn't been traveling in the same "troop" or whatever would try and get in for pictures, or try talking with the rest of the group, but the group led by the Nonon and some other mako with her would act incredibly stand-offish and direct all of the photographers with the big cameras to be taking pictures of THEM and no one else. And some of the cosplayers that were dressed particularly well, like the Tsumugu, they would swarm like flies (especially the girls, they whored themselves around that guy until I was second hand embarrassed to watch) I personally wasn't cosplaying, and they didn't bat an eye at me, but some of those who were looked very out of place amongst that one obnoxious crowd. They didn't look like they were having fun and it just seemed very awkward overall.
I agree, none of them were very good. I figured they'd at least be a little friendlier.

If you look at the reference sheets, Inumuta would have one battery pack hidden in the pouches per EL wire, so actually, you'd need 4 wires and 4 battery packs despite the pairs being attached to the same cuff at the start. You can get battery packs that will feed more than one wire/tape though, if that's what you want to know. It'd have more connectors but require more battery power.

Not the same Inumuta fag as before

Making some progress on my cosplay.
>Got the pants

I'm looking at his jacket and my thought was to buy a White blazer and use it as a base for the rest of it. Add an invisible ripper, iron on the three star pattern and I can add on the Cuffs and collar to it without too much difficulty.

The only problem I'm having is finding a good blazer to start from, preferable one that doesn't have huge lapels.

I don't care if I have to wear a ladies size so long as it fits(I'm a pretty slender guy).

Because it's not clothing. The things on ryuko's hips, while small, are clearly hip guards. and they even double as pouches since she stashes the Scissor blade in em at one point. They are always sturdy and they never crumple or fold. There's no way that they're a fabric piece.

>>7439808
Yeah that would work just fine to harden and smooth it. I've used stuff like Polyfilla before to smooth out pieces that I've covered in plaster gauze.

As for the chest piece you'd wanna go with something more matte since it's an armor bit. If you wanna go with something that has a bit of shine it wouldn't ruin the design but it depends on the fabric. Do you have a picture we could look at??

So I basically eyeballed the design onto cardstock and cut it out and curved it a bit. What you could do essentially is use this same shape but with cardboard. From there you can do the paper mache and Polyfilla, you can cover it with the same pleather material for a smoother and uniform look to match your chest piece, the choices are yours, but this is an easy way to just build a base. Also be sure to make a stencil cut out like I did here so you can get the exact shape you want before you go through with all your materials. Nothing sucks more than wasting materials to get something you don't want at the end. And if you make a mistake, it's a learning experience and you'll be that much more prepared for round two or any other projects you go at!~

I hope this helped!!!

Alright so I posted this a couple weeks ago but I'm posting again because I would like some opinions/advice because I'm stuck on how to approach a few things. The only progress I've made is ripping apart the shoulders to remake them better and dropping 10 lbs neither of which do I have pictures gomen. Starting to wire everything up to glow soon - it's going to be a pain but I'm psyched.

First issue is the thong/straps are a little too revealing in their design for me to be comfortable cosplaying with nothing underneath at a con but I don't want to be inaccurate and mess with the design.

I'm trying to think of the most subtle way to wear something under it that would blend.

My current "idea" is to use the full body underbust dance tights and to cut out a hole in the segment where my belly button is and then use a super fine lace in that section to make a sort of "invisible undersuit".
Just want opinions on if people think it will look like shit or if they have better ideas.

Second issue is the butt - in Satsuki's Junketsu design the back is next level thong status and the con I'm going to is very specific about "non thong underwear at the minimum" so should I nix accuracy on that and make the back strip a couple inches wide? Or just hope that my wig covers the sensitive bits.

Appreciate the help I just want this costume to turn out not shit tier haha

I made it out of pink insulation foam and worbla

well you could always do it the old fashion way and grid it out. Just take that body shot and overlay a grid over it and proportion it out to your height/body and then you'll be able to count by squares how big they should be and it'll be proportioned to your body so it'll look right.

You should keep the thong accurate, just wear nude panties or shorts underneath. Also look up a C string if you want extra protection. In a con setting I'm sure people will understand even if the nude shorts are very obvious, and you can just wear it accurately for a private shoot. You've probably seen that amazing Ragyo with the nude cover-up. Yes it's not 100% accurate but she looks amazing and everyone agrees. That other fat ragyo with no coverup looks shit.

I think a nude thong would work. I'd rather show my butt than my fanny, so is that okay for you? Even nude panties are okay too, because it is a bit naked for the bottom especially. Your work looks great so far though and i'm super excited to see it finished.

I'd say MDF. It's going to be a bit on the heavy side, but it's a lot easier to finish than plywood.

For the finish, I'd start with a base of glossy black. A layer of silver on top of that will give you a nice metallic finish. Translucent red on top of that will, well, make it red.

I plan to get a skintone bodysuit (because her bellybutton and boobs don't show) and wear that swimsuit-looking part over it.
The rest of the cosplay is super easy to sew, but I have very little prop making experience.

Satsuki is the next costume I'm working on. I originally ordered a black wig, pictured here, but I think I'm going to go with a black/blue mix if I can find one that doesn't look too blue in photos. I went ahead and did a quick trim of the black wig and a kind of makeup test, just to see how I want to style everything. I thought about keeping the bangs a big longer, since they do cover her eyebrows slight in references, but I think having them fall just above helps keep the intensity of the eyebrows from being lost in the wig.

Wish I had more to share, but I haven't started working on the costume yet. I've got my materials all gathered, with the exception of stuff for her sword.

I initially liked black as well, but after looking at references, particularly of Satsuki when she's wearing Senketsu, black just seems too dark. But I agree, I have not seen a non-black Satsuki wig that didn't feel off. I'm waiting on a wig to ship that I think has the right shade, but if I don't like it I think I'm just going to stick with black.

I've thought about buying a dark blue wig and dying it to get the right shade of black with blue undertones, but I don't really have experience with dying wigs, so I'm not sure I could achieve the look I want and not ruin a perfectly good wig.

>>7442249
I know what you mean, Anon, I had a similar thought. The bangs seem really thin, but I will see if I can add some more volume somehow. Or at least keep it in mind if I use a different wig.

Thanks, this is why I like sharing stuff with you guys.

Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but did you trim (or at least mark) the bangs while wearing the wig? I haven't trimmed mine yet, and I'm worried about getting the "V" correct if I do it on a wig head like usual.

Mine is also blue-black (Raven from Arda) and I think I like it better than true black.

>> No.7442399

>>7442358
I did mine pretty quickly, so it's not cleaned up, but what I did was I cut some of the length of the bang off on the wighead and then finished trimming it while wearing it so I could get it to fall where I needed it to relative to my face. I used my eyebrows as a guideline. If I were to clean this up more, I'd put it back on the wig head just to make sure the sides and edges are even.
