So, I've always wondered about the fit of Angelic Pretty shoes.
For anyone who owes a pair (style doesn't matter) do you think they could fit like .2 ~3cms over their max size of 25cm?
I also have really skinny feet so do you think that would help if I tried to squeeze my annoying long feet into them?

>> No.7421225

Is non-print Moitie really worth the prices it commands secondhand? I've been unimpressed with some of the print stuff in person. There's a fairly plain JSK that's caught my fancy on a japanese secondhand site but I don't know whether the price is worth it.

>> No.7421230

>>7421215
0.2 or 0.3 cms over? For sure. Having skinny feet will definitely help too. Even someone with wider feet like me could fit into shoes that are a mere 0.2 or 3 cm smaller.

>> No.7421237

>>7421215
their shoes are pretty wide so it doesn't matter if you have skinny feet if your toes are hitting the toe box

Oh, but Japanese sizing doesn't represent the actual size of your foot. My feet are about 25.1 cm but that's equal to Japanese 24.5.

>>7421225
Moitie holds it's retail value pretty well, but the plainer pieces that have minor detailing go for a fair bit less than retail secondhand. How much is the JSK you're after and would you mind posting a pic?

Which prints were you unimpressed with? I was really unimpressed with my velveteen Divine Cross, the fabric was quite horrible but I love my other Moitie dresses.

But aren't they? Like in rainedragon's shoe size guide and other's I have read they say they're based on the size of your foot.
Like I can wear Baby's LL shoes fine.
>>7421237
Sometimes it helps because I can lean my skinny feet to the side a bit and they don't hit the toe box of shoes that are a little too small as much.

Hello. I only dress lolita on rare occasions, but I have this concert I will attend where I want to wear lolita. The theme is space and galaxies. Is there any dress or skirt with this theme that is not too rare, so I can have it within a month?

I found one on etsy, but the quality does not seem as good as I'd like for this moment.

This one, 22800 yen. I guess if they were to release to new now it'd be about 30k yen? Dear god, every time I look at it I fall in love with the simplicity a little more.

Divine Cross skirt and Alchemy print are the ones I've seen in person, and I didn't really like the quality of either of them. But it generally tends to go that solids have higher quality than prints due to fabric constraints for printing/detailing on solids/whatever so I figured a non-print piece might be more worth it.

I don't know, I think it will make big releases harder to get because we will be also competing with the Japanese market and that will be a large burden on the site.
I see nightmares like the MSND release playing before my eyes.
On the bright side, the international site does not always get all the blouses and ect items. If they do, sometimes they sell out but they still have some on the japan site... I have had to get a SS to get that kind of stuff in the past, so I am happy to just be able to order directly from them without a middle man.

It was one of their simpler classic/country designs, and the construction is o.k./flattering enough to wear, but the blouse I ordered to match the jsk ended up being horrendous. The way the sleeves were constructed was just... eugh. with this elastic that made them poof out either way too much or just really oddly, and the color was really off from the site in multiple lightings... At her blog:
"My only niggle with the construction of the garment is that the fabric at the front with the print on does not match the fabric at the back. I don't think this mismatch was obvious on the stock photos, so I find it a little annoying. It doesn't stop the skirt from being lovely and if you're wearing the bustle then it's not so noticeable anyway."

Read several reviews. No one is going to convince you not to buy from. Them if you want to, we just give our opinions.
Mine is that they are subpar quality for the price and if rather buy gently used brand.

Questions in general are fine. Asking how to trust reviewers is stupid. The same way you trust reviews on any other product, decent research and making sure you have a variety of sources confirming each other.

Also the key to getting first hand brand is to watch sites for releases/reservations. AP can be a little spontaneous, from what I've seen, but Baby/AatP often release stuff on Fridays and tend to have information up on the reservation page at least a week prior.

Innocent World tends to sell more slowly and update more often, so they aren't much of a concern. Just learn the timings of the brands, be vigilant, or learn to shop on the sales comms.

I also know to watch out for low quality lace.
Another anon mentioned earlier that overlocked hems aren't that great, so that was helpful.

Fabric quality and construction are usually the two big points that you'll want to look out for. Most reviewers worth their salt will comment on this so it's just a matter of finding the general consensus there.

From there you'll want to see whether or not sizing is accurate, and whether that applies to standard or custom sizing. There are brands I'd trust with something in their standard sizes, but I'd never trust ordering custom from them, not so much vice versa. I'm fairly certain Fanplusfriend has had some particularly hilarious custom sizing mix-ups, but I may be thinking of another brand.

Cheap lace is often a problem, but unless it's high-contrast on the dress ((eg. White on black)), I honestly think that it's less of a concern than the overall fabric quality and construction. That said, avoid cheap lace whenever possible.

Check the sticky for information on taobao offbrands. I'd recommend most of them over F+F if you have the money for a shopping service/to buy through Qutieland (meh) or Clobbaonline.

Questions are fine, yes but when you ask questions that have subjective answers based on opinions, it's pointless to then argue with people about the opinions they give you.

Also, if you ask common questions that could be answered by reading the info at the LJ EGL comm or any brand ordering guide or article then it's likely people wil just tell you to stop arguing and to look things up and do some research to learn how Lolita things work.
This is an 18+ board so at least basic research skills are assumed. If you fall outside the brand size ranges, Indie designers will often do custom sizing.

If you like fanplusfriend designs then order. But don't expect anything like brand quality in fabric, construction or design.
If Bodyline is the Walmart of Lolita then F+F is likely considered similar.

You mean Melty Chocolate, right anon?

I think some replicas, when properly ironed and made in the standard small sizes are harder to spot.
But most people know what dresses are commonly replicated and so can make a quick judgment on that alone by looking at what other items the wearer has on.

>> No.7427300

>>7427215
I've seen some replicas that actually look really good and were difficult for me to tell at first glance. And probably because I don't have the dresses in question or haven't seen them in person to compare. But they were on smaller-sized girls and I had to look up close at the details to see (how the lace was dyed, stitching, and small details with the bows). DOL replicas are easy to spot because they're faded, rough fabric, etc. Some of Oojia's look pretty nice, but usually there's a wonky bow or something iffy. Sometimes you can usually fix the bow by taking it apart and adding interfacing, pressing it and reshaping it properly. Sometimes though they're not even salvageable, like DOL.

Also Oojia's fabric outside chiffon, wrinkles like a bitch and doesn't come out easily even with steaming and re-wrinkles at the blink of an eye. Higher quality fabric keeps it's crispness.

Japan doesn't really have much of replicas anywhere. People tend to have smaller wardrobes, and go for quality over quantity, which I guess is a big part of why replicas are not such a huge thing over there. This isn't just for lolita, it's for a lot of fashion. Sure there are some replicas, and some companies might have really similar products as there are only so many motifs and styles, but in general, blatant replicas just aren't as common over there. I don't think this is Western culture so much as Anglophone culture. For my (or probably my country's) standards, brand items aren't that expensive, so money is not the reason why I'd buy replicas.
I'd go for a replica if I can't have the original.

I'm also not gonna spend 450$ and up for an item, unless I really really want it (and it's not really worn, personally, I dislike used clothes).

You don't have to be a hambeast to not fit into brand. Some items only go up to a bust circumference of 31 inches, that's just really really small.

If it was available and would fit me, I'd always buy brand.

>I've seen some replicas that actually look really good and were difficult for me to tell at first glance. And probably because I don't have the dresses in question or haven't seen them in person to compare.

The only people who think replicas look good are people who don't know any better. The replica may be better quality than your Walmart sweatpants but compared to brand, they are all just sad.

And yes, people in the know can tell a replica at a glance

>>7427215
>I will never understand how people identify replicas so easily.

Look at even some internet pictures side by side with their replicas. The more you look at them, the more the differences will stand out. The seams don't match up well. The construction is subpar, the details and lace are different, the prints aren't as crisp, often the fabric itself is thinner and cheaper, the linings are thin and bad fabric.

The people who say replicas aren't distinguishable either don't have any brand to compare them to or are just replica chans trying to delude themselves.

Summertime is when the newfags overrun EGL comm asking noob questions. The conflicts you want to discuss are old news unless there has been some new development. So is fanplusfriend, their prints, their quality, etc. most people don't even pay attention to their new items like they do brand releases, or hadn't you noticed? They are mostly considered a Chinese costume shop.

I get wanting to be relevant but you are doing it wrong. And no it isn't such a big deal but can you imagine how the comms would be if every noob thought their speshul questions deserved personal answers and rehashed years old discussions 'because they were new'?
Lurk more, you'll see what I mean.

I posted this on my facebook but I thought it might be good to post here as well to get a couple opinions...

I bought Baby's Alice and the Looking Glass OP in white from someone online. it was modified to fit up to 110cm bust. she sent me photos of the modifications and said they were done by a professional seamstress.
I just got the dress today and while the original fabric of the dress is in almost perfect condition, the modifications are awful. really sloppily done with loose threads everywhere and nothing is surged. they also doubled up some cheap polyester off white chiffon-looking for the modifications which looks really puffy and weird.
there's also damage to the actual modifications.

so essentially... the dress itself is perfect but the modifications are awful and not really as they were described.
the dress is totally salvageable, but I think I'll have to get the mods totally redone.

I only paid $90 + shipping for it as well so I feel like its not really worth complaining.

To also be nit picky, she took about to weeks to ship the dress then took another week to give me the tracking. The dress arrived wrapped in two layers of thick paper, but it was still paper and it ripped open easily.

Should I say something? Or just say fuck it, considering I got it for such a low price?

Even if the modifications were done really well I'd most likely have to take the dress in a lot anyway... (which I sort of knew when I bought it)

Especially when /cgl/ is typically the domain of veterans of the fashion, a lot of us come here for the relief from the rest of the communities.

That all said, if you do ask questions here in the future, beginner or not, I advise against trying to fight back against people bitching you out. I know it sucks being told to google harder, but people get less sympathetic when they see bickering from both sides.

But I can also see that I need the seller to understand that she needs to be a little clearer about the quality of the alterations and take more comprehensive photos, otherwise she risks having something like this happen again with a more expensive dress and a less understanding buyer.

How busty? I have a friend who has a couple, and she's pretty thin with like C cups. She wears them with belts and they look cute. I can't post it, because our comm has a strict rule against posting pics here.

That fairy kei heaven chick just posted Misty Sky to her tumblr, and it looks derpy as fuck. But she's wearing a peignoir with shorter sleeves than the dress, so that might be distracting me. And you probably have a better figure than her.

Same, then I'd buy the bodice. I presume the intent of the design is to replicate that look but with ease of wearing.

lazarus is my best friend. Do you not have Chrome autofill, though?

I'm 100cm bust. I'm a bit chub as well as busty but I'm not plus sized.

>>7429045
Wow she looks so... odd. She has really nice legs though...??
Yeah, that outfit doesn't look good on her. But I feel like she's also slouching and the sleeves are too big and poofy on her, so they make her look bigger.
I also can't really tell what the belted peignoir is doing to the dress on her because the whole thing is just a jumble of weird fabric.

Yeah, I hate how they shoop the colors in their stock photos. It makes everything look weird.
I think (hope?) the actual color will be more like the light teal-ish blue in the illustration and the worn photos.

I don't think it will either. Especially on someone busty. They are supposed to hang straight and floaty, then bell out at the bottom. A belt on that style of dress just makes them bunchy and chops the long dress line in half

Ohh, that girl. Damn, that coord isn't even bad, she's just so unfortunate looking.

I think it depends. You can be nice and honest, if the one getting critiziced doesn't get butthurt instantly.

I was hoping for the opposite, actually. But judging from the headpiece and other dress, I guess it's gonna be more on the teal side,

The shoes are off, but I think it looks like she really made the best out of her face. It's just like the exact opposite shape that's considered cute, especially in lolita.

if you're really stuck, buy a pair of white shoes and spray paint them? Or buy some flower clips from H&M and decorate them.

Outdated resources fucking get me. I was reading GTFOEGL (never been posted there, just browsing), and people are saying noobs should read the memories and the sidebar links... The memories and review links haven't been updated since like 2009 and half of the links in the sidebar categories are broken. I got my information from sites like the lolita handbook but it's not surprising that people who've only seen EGL so far ask repetetive questions.
