I have been wanted to do an old school inspired co-ord with my sweet strawberry ribbon OP. Some time ago in an old school thread someone was posting pictures of when sweet was just sort of coming in but they didn't really have pastel shoes so a lot of the lolitas just wore black ones. Even back then, most lolits would have gone for white shoes for that dress. Black shoes were common when the dress was plain or featured black details. This thread is even full of examples to prove it.

I actually love black shoes with sweet coords, but it helps if there's something else dark to balance it with. Semi-shiro coords with black hair and black shoes are my guilty pleasure.
It just looks so much more dolly to me. My grandmother is an avid collector of antique porcelain dolls and save one they all have black or brown shoes. There's one with white shoes but that one is dressed in all-white, bridal style.

I've been debating buying an old school dress for like 3 years now, but I just can't see myself wearing it anywhere. It's a bit too reminiscent of a sunday dress to wear for official occassions or to work. Can't wear it to con (at least without a fear of harassment) because as I learned from clueless noobs there before "it's not lolita if you're not wearing at least two petticoats" and "BxW is sooo ita". We barely have meets in our comm so I'd rather save my most extravagant outfits for that.

I'll just buy it and happily lounge around the house looking like a 2004 street snap, I guess.
