If you're a novice sewer, I'd suggest using a fabric with some stretch (like a polyester-cotton blend or some heavy jersey). Get a long-sleeve t-shirt that fits you well, trace that onto paper (both front and back), and add the divots for the Witch tier shirt onto the paper pattern. Cut out the paper and trace that onto the fabric, cut out the fabric, and sew the two halves together.

Man, not gonna lie Homestuck got me through some heavy shit in my life, and brought some heavy shit into it too, but over all I'm super grateful I got to be a part of it. I've met my best friends, role models, and even my boyfriend from the cosplay com and a lot of my best memories are from meetups and parties. Homestuck may get a lot of shit, I may talk some shit, but damn does it have its good merits that I will always be thankful for.

When non-HS fans talk shit though, they usually have a story that's turned them off from the fandom, whether it's as minor as young fans being a noisy annoyance at cons (like my pal who ran into a group of tweens playing spin the bottle in a con hallway, not hurting anyone but sure as hell not helping either) or as major as con or hotel property being vandalized by HS cosplayers. With a fandom as large as Homestuck, there's going to be proportionally more idiots who ruin everybody's fun time. I wish people would keep that in mind instead of maligning us all, but tbh, I can't really blame them for not giving us the benefit of the doubt. There's just too many of us, and it's safer to assume a group of Homestuck cosplayers is the immature weeb kind rather than trusting that they're sane and mature and then getting paint smeared all over you when they push by shrieking and honking bicycle horns. We're shitty until proven otherwise, basically.

Yeah, if you don't seal your paint, you'll look like shit. That's true for any cosplay involving face or body paint, and there's plenty of painted carapaces that DO look like shit. But there's also many that don't. My point still stands: if you paint yourself nicely and evenly, don't fuck up the application, and touch up if you need to throughout the day (which I'm pretty sure is also fairly standard for any cosplay involving paint), you'll be fine.

Tl;dr: As long as you aren't a fucking idiot about your paint, you should be okay. A quick search for Midnight Crew cosplayers on deviantart will be an automatic warning as to what not to do if you're going the facepaint route.

Ok, I'm not the anon that originally critiqued you, but since you're here, I might as well contribute.

The stripe on your wig looks purple in that lighting, not violet and that's the problem. But it could just be the lighting. AFAIK the symbol on your shirt is Ampora violet and the colors seem to match ok so thats not a problem IMO.

I'm guessing that since you're here you want actual critique, so here goes.

That pose makes your hips and thighs look very feminine, and the fit of the pants accentuates that. I'm guessing from your arms and the binding(?) that this is supposed to be not!63, so you really should consider practicing more masculine poses to hide your waistline and accentuate your shoulders.

I think it's because most people don't start with the idea of humanstuck, rather they do it because they don't want to bother with grey and horns. So they just use the same wig they bought for their full troll cosplays. Pic related is one of my favorite humanstuck cosplays that didn't do that.
