Just got my compacts in the mail! THEY'RE SO BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT.

Well, a tad smaller than I expected but still amazing. But I'm curious, What is everyone's thoughts on using them for cosplay?

Personally, I don't think I would. but i'm guessing the conventions will soon be littered with Moonies using the Gashapon compacts and curious to see how /cgl/ feels about it.

My only REAL complaint is the insides of some. I get that they're toys, but that yellow is just.. Make it stop. And the weird designs in some of them that make no sense? Like Season 1. broach has like a nail polish design in it or something idk.

As for modding, I'd say go for it if you feel up to it. Maybe with apoxie sculpt, though that could get heavy if you actually wanted to cosplay with them. You could also try resin casting them and playing around with casts if you didn't want to mess up the real things.

It's a difficult to get them directly afaik. They're only sold on Bandai's site (http://p-bandai.jp/chara/c0468/item-1000087110/)) and there is a limit on how many can be ordered through a proxy/deputy service. They aren't being sold at CDJapan, Jlist or any other sites.

I'm really happy with them, the crisis compacts are my favorites. I'm really tempted to make broaches out of those (but I probably won't unless I buy more).
I really don't like the round compacts because the yellow hinges stick out of them.

As for the insides, they're okay. I didn't expect them to be elaborate. It's funny though, when I first opened them I flipped tit because I thought the mirrors were cloudy/scratched. I wanted to cry thinking I got a shitty batch. But someone on fb informed me that there was a protective film covering it and all I had to do was peel it off. Sigh of relief.

Now they're just sitting on my shelf. Hm...

Just expensive. I realize importing can be expensive, but sometimes I save money ordering from CDJapan or through a proxy service. The only catch is that you have to be on top of it before it sells out if there's a limited supply. (like the new Sailor Moon manga supposedly only have 10K copies or something like that)

Right now. Jlist is the only one that has it in stock, so it's better to get it before it's sold out if you don't mind paying more

Besides the Miracle Romance stuff, I found the smaller items far more interesting. I got the phone jacks, a bag charm and a cosmic heart necklace.
These lockets posted by OP remind me a lot of my first ever Sailor Moon toy. The locket is almost the exact same except for the size! The finish is indeed off-putting, looks too much like a litte kid's toy rather than a collectable.

I really like them. The small 10cm size seems proper to me. If a 4'11'' 14 yr old girl is pinning these to her uniform this is the size they would be.

There is not a new release yet. I got excited when the other anon said they had the pink star locket, which was a 90s super limited run, alt color of the original gold star locket.

They have not released any new RPG toys except the crescent stick for the re release. I don't consider the male up compact or the gashapons RPG toys but others might disagree with that opinion. But you can bet a star locket toy will be re released.

Well the thing is the original Bandai heart locket was too BIG for the costume. So yeah actually I did think these smaller ones would be the right size. But idk, I kind of wanted it anyway so I didn't think about it too hard or look up reviews.

It's pink because they originally released the accurate, gold one for the 1st season run of toys. Those were successful enough that they released even more toys for R, including another star locket. But I guess they wanted it to be different enough that people would buy it twice so it's pink.
When Italy was making new toys a couple of years ago, I heard they weren't doing a new star locket because it's too expensive to manufacture. But I would be a little surprised if they didn't make one now what with all the bandai premium stuff coming out.
I wish I had bought the pink star locket when I saw it for sale for a "mere" $800...
