Hey /cgl/! I'm very new to Lolita fashion but I just bought this dress on a whim and I'd rather not look completely dumb when I wear it so I have a few questions! Do you think the blouse I have in the picture would be alright to wear with it? If not then could you maybe suggest a better one? Also what would be a good idea be for footwear and headwear? I'm probably only ever going to wear it at cons. Thank you!

Buy an actual lolita blouse, polos and 'dress shirts' look like shit unless they're actually lacy or follow an aesthetic that is part of lolita fashion.

Seems like you're still quite the newbie. You should check these links out:

http://www.lolitafashion.org/anatomy.html
They're a little outdated but for the most part accurate.

Everything >>7354653 said. Study pictures of other lolita and think what you like about what they are wearing and then see what brands they buy from. Lolita is one of those things that its almost impossible to do half assed and still look good so do your research and you can be an awesome lolita!

Thank you very much! Those links are extremely helpful!! So do you think maybe one of these blouses would look good with this dress?

With Bodyline you have to actually manually link the item (by right clicking and opening in a new window) or else you link us to the general main blouse page.

For a beginner coord I'd recommend these items. It's a very lacy dress, but in a nice solid colour, so I'd wear lace detailed blouses and socks but avoid prints or overly OTT accessories. Stay with that shade of pink (or peach?) and white, don't add any other colours to the coord when you're just starting the fashion. White blouse, white socks, pink shoes. That or white blouse, pink socks, white shoes.

Also, when you buy these items switch the price on the top bar to yen from USD. It saves you a bit of money.

Thank you very much! You guys are extremely helpful!! i think i will get the second blouse and everything else when i get the money for it! Oh i also have one more question! For some odd reason the bow on the front is held on by a safety pin do you think it would be a good idea to attach a hair pin to it and use it as a hair bow or do you think i should just sew it on so that it stays on better and buy a hair bow?

>> No.7354720

>>7354703
You could do that, but usually they sit on the head weird and it takes away from the dress. I think it's nice and flattering where it sits, and to remove that will definitely make the dress look a lot less nice. The safety pin is nice because you can change it from the waist to the bust, creating a new look each time.

Anna House has a lot nicer bows than Bodyline and more that just the normal headbow style. They're still very affordable.

OP's picture got me thinking: Is it worse to wear a normal shirt with a lolita dress, or no shirt at all? (also new to lolita, if that wasn't obvious)

How about neither?
Some normal shirts can work, like if they're chiffon, or vintage, or have a secretary style bow on the collar. But there's a lot of shirts that can be described as 'chiffon' or 'vintage' or 'secretary bow' and still not work one bit. It's best to stick with and learn the basics before you experiment outside the box. Do not wear something that looks like a men's dress shirt. Just don't.
If you really are refusing to get a real blouse, or if it's just too hot to wear one, cover yourself up with a bolero/sweater or get an OP.
Pic related is the difference between a JSK and an OP

JSK "Jumper Skirt"
>Straps

OP "One Piece"
>Sleeves

An OP can have cap sleeves or full length sleeves, it can have a scoop neck, or it can come up into a collar. It's a "One Piece" because you can wear it on it's own. You can wear a blouse with a one piece, though you'd have to choose carefully that it doesn't look weird with the OP's sleeves and neckline. Asking the ladies in the coord thread (current one here >>7339197 , though there's always one up running after the older ones die.) can help you determine if a blouse could work.

A JSK has straps, but sometimes comes up into a halter collar. The most typical look is what I've posted, with straps and a square neckline. >>7354577 This is a JSK. A way to think about it is, it's called a "Jumper Skirt", and you wouldn't wear a skirt on it's own would you?
Wearing a JSK on it's own kind of has a similar look to wearing overalls without a shirt on underneath.

I mean something like this

I'd say no shirt at all. Get a cardigan/bolero or something.

Don't get a blouse from Bodyline. Their blouses are shit quality for the price. Get one from Anna House, they're much nicer and the same price.

(Just a note, I find their homepage doesn't work for some reason...? If you want to browse around or find it on Google, remember that.)
Also, it looks like the accents to the dress are not pure white, so you shouldn't pair it up with a blouse that is. I find it looks awkward.

I'm in the same boat as OP, bought the Misty Sky Salopette after being totally smitten with the print. I'm looking for a peter pan collared blouse and a petticoat to go underneath it.
Any other advice? Maybe any worn pictures of this salo or something like it?

That's shit, my bodyline blouses are good as or better than AH. You just need a good eye to filter the ita BL pieces

Almost every blouse I've ever even seen from Bodyline looks terrible. They use that awful scratchy lace for almost every single one. The only decent BL blouses I've seen have been older pieces, and all the recent ones are shit; even the blouses that have nice designs are ruined by the awful materials.
