Hi, /cgl/.

I have been meaning to ask you guys about this board. Cosplay hits all the right notes for me. Halloween, porn, materials science and cinema arts, it's all there.

If cosplay is a passion of yours, I'd say it should be worth at least a few hundred dollars. Most of the people walking around at comic cons just put on quick costumes or outfits that lack not only class but effort.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are lots of Elvis impersonators but few Mario impersonators.

Really, I have 3 questions:

1. Why is there no NSFW cosplay board?
2. Why do some of the cosplayers here look so weird?
3. Why is there so little video game cosplay?

>>7334631
>1. Why is there no NSFW cosplay board?
Cosplay has nothing to do with porn, really. Some take NSFW pics, but it is very much a minority.

> 2. Why do some of the cosplayers here look so weird?
How so?

> 3. Why is there so little video game cosplay?
There is a huge amount of video game cosplays. It is right up there with anime and comics.

>> No.7334642

The fact that you can't answer that yourself speaks volumes. You sound like you were expecting your own personal fap folder.

1. This is a hobby, not a porno. There are people who delve in the eroge side of it but that's relatively far in between.

2. These are people doing something they love and people come with different faces and gasp! That's how they were probably born.

3. For video game cosplay, did you even fucking try?

FYI you just sound like such an entitled jackass who's here for the wrong reasons.

>1. Why is there no NSFW cosplay board?
Because cosplay doesn't revolve around sex. Now there are pornos where an actress is wearing a cosplay and gets nailed, and there's also CosplayDeviants (but that requires some standards being lowered..), but really cosplay actually has little to do with fetishism.
>2. Why do some of the cosplayers here look so weird?
Majority don't, we just tend to take pictures of the weird ones to show the Internet how weird they are because we're critical jackasses. We're mostly just normal people.
>3. Why is there so little video game cosplay?
There isn't. 4Chan just tends to cater to anime/manga, so you're going to see more of that here. There is a ton of video game cosplay, especially in the West.
I'll post a League cosplay because I really don't save a ton of video game things, especially Western ones, but it is by no means obscure.

>If cosplay is a passion of yours, I'd say it should be worth at least a few hundred dollars.
Most of the people walking around at comic cons just put on quick costumes or outfits that lack not only class but effort.
But for these people, cosplaying is not their passion, the fandom is their passion. What you are witnessing is the nerd equivalent of a sports fan wearing some facepaint and a jersey to find other like-minded fans. They are not trying to be good cosplayers, they are just having fun with their fandom. To compare the two types is unfair, and frankly, ignorant.

>1. Why is there no NSFW cosplay board?
NSFW implies the absence of costumes, which is the whole point of cosplay soooo.... what is the point?
>2. Why do some of the cosplayers here look so weird?
Because we're normal people and not models? Do you look weird? I look weird.
>3. Why is there so little video game cosplay?
Because you have not googled any video game plus the word "cosplay" to magically invent more video game cosplay

Thanks. There is some overlap between your answers.

>NSFW cosplay
Is cosplay mostly reserved for conventions then? I was under the impression that generally the more hardcore cosplayers walk around in costume everywhere they go, like those guys in Pluto costumes at Disney World. I mean, costumes can serve a practical purpose from a clothing point of view. Have you seen Prometheus? Those are some great-looking space suits that have the added bonus of keeping the actor warm in cold climates. A cosplay fetish isn't a character fetish but a clothing fetish.
>weird-looking cosplayers
Some of the cosplayers who post OC on this very board are pretty ugly. I don't just mean they're fat (welcome to the Internet). What I mean is that their faces look sort of scary, and it's not because of makeup. The crazy thing is most of them are white, so there is no Asian skull structure to blame. No offense, but it almost seems like people cosplay to hide how ugly they are.
>video game cosplay
Every time I come on this board, it's either japanime stuff or some weird genre content that doesn't reference any specific franchise. Video game cosplay is a small minority. Either that or people cosplay for some pretty obscure video games that nobody (me) has ever heard of.

>here for the wrong reasons
I'm just here for the 4chan.

Fetishism of cosplay is a thing, but I'm talking about the fetishism of the costumes themselves and not necessarily the culture that surrounds cosplay. As for weird-looking people, I believe that a good portion of the pictures posted here are of the authors. Also, why do you think 4chan is about anime and manga? It's an English board. There's 2chan for the Japs. Americans/Europeans don't like anime AFAIK.
>>7334669
There is a fine line between fantards and cosplayers. That very picture you posted shows a mix. The 3 space marines on the right have excellent costumes while the one on the left looks like shit.

Not really, but conventions are the best excuse to wear a cosplay, right beside photoshoots.
>I was under the impression that generally the more hardcore cosplayers walk around in costume everywhere they go, like those guys in Pluto costumes at Disney World.
Those are called face characters, they are paid to do that and wear things made by professional costume designers. Wearing cosplay outside of a convention or photoshoot is really frowned upon, it's pretty obnoxious.
>No offense, but it almost seems like people cosplay to hide how ugly they are.
gr8 b8. Again, we're just normal people. It's like real life: some people just happen to look weird.
>Every time I come on this board, it's either japanime stuff or some weird genre content that doesn't reference any specific franchise.
If you direly want to see video game cosplay, make a thread for it. We prefer if you make a thread for a specific series, but general threads happen sometimes too. Seriously, just ask.

Cosplay usually happens at conventions. Furries and homestuck cosplayers can be found lurking IRL in costume though. Also weeby highschool kids wear that kind of stuff outside of cons too b/c why not. They're kids.

OMG there are ugly people in the world! We must stop them from cosplaying! No seriously, this hobby has all sorts of people, from gorgeous to jabba the hutt. It's ok. Also it is some of the few places where uglier folks feel comfortable enough to have their pics taken. And generally we dont care if you are ugly. Does you costume look good? Did you work hard? Is it accurate? Then +10 to you!

Look harder. There is tons of video game cosplay, from soul calibre to bioshock. We got you covered. Start your own thread about it if you want proof.

If I dressed up as Jak (for example) and showed up to a job interview at a video game company, that would increase my chances of getting hired 200%.
>>7334703
>cosplay conventions and photoshoots
I would think that if you guys really loved your cosplay, you would wear your costumes more often. Walking around town, I don't see anybody wearing anything other than a brown cotton jacket and jeans. In fact, that is precisely the outfit I generally wear, and I blend right in, almost becoming invisible. A video game costume is like a big sign that says "I'm cool", and helps you stand out from the crowd.
>face characters
Aren't face characters sometimes hired for viral promotional campaigns of new video games? I can imagine Microsoft spending maybe 1.5M to hire a few hundred Master Chiefs to walk around for a month.
>b8
Nope. You guys do have ugly faces.

Do you not have a grasp of how the real world works? They want professionals, not people who could potentially goof off at work. There's a 99% chance you wouldn't get hired doing that shit.

Sage for responding to utter stupidity.

Alright dude, look at, for example, Master Chief's design. Do you really want to wear that every day instead of comfortable clothes?
If you answer yes, you know nothing of costuming.
Really complex shit like that is usually fairly uncomfortable, that's why people reserve them for conventions and photoshoots. That's our dedication. Anything more than that is honestly outright stupid.
You can do it if you want though, talk to me in a year and tell me how it went.
>Aren't face characters sometimes hired for viral promotional campaigns of new video games?
They can be, but the Pluto example you used was a Disney face character, as in the ones at the theme parks that entertain kids. There are cosplayers hired to promote video games, but they don't just walk around in their daily lives decked out in a costume, they only do certain events.

I do remember costumed players in high school. I was just thinking about that. It added to the flavor and helped me get through the day. Why is there no culture beyond high school? For the past few years, I have been longing for a more interesting life, and even though I hated high school, the people there were memorable characters, UNLIKE your everyday boring executves, stoners, laborers and academics. Sorry, I'm getting a little sidetracked.
>ugly cosplayers
Most of these ugly freaks will explicitely ask for criticism of their costumes, implying that they are the subjects of the photos, the photos of people with weird faces.
>soul calibre and bioshock
Those franchises have rather bland-looking characters if you ask me. Patrons of conventions generally choose such simpler costumes. Only the people who are paid to be there (face characters) have good costumes.

>>7334794
Just because I've heard of Soul Calibre and Bioshock doesn't mean I play them. Anyways, those games aren't really so "obscure". I'm talking about the many Japanese-only Final Fantasy games and spinoffs, and multitudes of obscure characters therein. To me, that doesn't even count as vidya, that's more anime. Also, obscure visual novels. Do those even count as games?
>>7334796
Or how little cosplay matters in porn. Either way, I did not think that I would spark such an argument, especially considering that a lot of people on this board aren't cosplayers.

Anyways, one cosplay board isn't enough for 4chan considering how many different anime boards there are. (No, /cgl/ is not an anime board.)
