The problem with the WSP meet ups is they are not very organized (unless cancerously or snowchildhero is helping run them) and happen almost EVERY week when there is no need for it. I've never really seen any behavior that would come off as terrible, though. It's just that they are always sitting in the same spot, taking the same pictures, in the same odd ball assortments of cosplay.

I've honestly been seeing people drop Homestuck cosplay a lot lately. Maybe a few people do some cosplay events after it ends, but other than that, I'm not sure if we'll see a lot of growth with the cosplay community.

I think if anything is going to bring it back, it'll be the Homestuck Adventure Game. I think I saw a few people cosplaying the teaser character.

Ten quid won't get you far. You might have to up your budget a little, maybe to 15 or 20. I know that' s a steeper price, but you'll get a much better result. Plus, I'd stay away from any wig listed for Izaya - his hair is much shorter than John's, and you won't have the length you need to style it. Have you looked at Taobao at all?

Idk what to tell you, anon. Short wigs on ebay won't have the thickness you need. You'll have to go longer and trim up. If you're that uneasy about wig work, maybe try a simpler character? Because John will definitely require styling on your part.

Euro, okay. If your country has any online cosplay wig shops, I'd do a search for those. If not, you're gonna have to trawl through ebay with a search on short black wigs and go for an option that will give you enough hair to work with. You want something thick because without sturdy fibers, the spikes won't hold. Problem is, many ebay wigs are disgustingly thin. That's why you want a little more length to help you compensate when you pull the spikes up. John needs length on top, not on the sides, which is unfortunately where the trimming would come in. Wigs aren't really sold long only on top; they're sold long all around.

People recommend it for a few reasons, I think, but none of them are good. Either they're lazy and go the flat wig route for John (lumanous was notorious for this shit), they've never cosplayed John and are suggesting it blindly, or they're too cheap/inexperienced/impatient to fish around for a better option. It's the same reason a lot of Dave cosplayers have fucking awful wigs even though his hair is so easy. They just don't commit the time or effort to it.

If you find an ebay listing you like, you can definitely copy it here and we'll give our feedback! We just can't do the search for you. Also, when you're on ebay, take the listings with a grain of salt. A lot of sellers will take stock photos of products that aren't theirs and use them as the listing picture anyway. I'm sure you noticed the results for an Izaya wig were basically the same four pictures recycled over and over again, and that's why.

Let's discuss things, I don't see anyone responding to any of the OP's questions, so I'm gonna answer one.

I've decided to focus on fixing my God Tier John cosplay. Better shirt, figure out how to style my wig better (or get a new one if needed), and I need a better hood.

If you look boyish enough and make sure your wig is spot on perfect. This means the dress needs to sit on you as it would on a cis male, and you need to learn how to pose to minimize your hips. Binding has to be perfect. And you have to understand that everything else, basically the wig, contacts if they're visible etc. have got to be absolutely perfect, because the dress maximizes ever flaw by a million basically.

The last time I cosplayed MSPA was 2012 at Anime Expo as Doc Scratch. I found it really out of character having to remove my head ever time I wanted to interact with anyone/thing, unless I was posing. I don't feel my face fits any of the characters so unless I come up with a solution I don't think I'll be going to any events in the future.

Fellow Scratch cosplayer here, I know this feeling and there really isn't much else you can do aside from having your headpiece professionally tinted in some way.

Most people forgive you if you have to carry the headpiece around rather than wear it. It's when you put it on for photos and people see the full effect that REALLY counts.

SECONDED. Even really experienced cosplayers seem to have trouble getting him right. It doesn't help that he has the most complicated design out of all the trolls, and his hair requires using a wig without bangs and wefting. It's not a cosplay for beginners. Even his god-tier cosplay is tough.
Every troll out there has its share of shitty cosplays, but there are barely any actual good Eridan cosplays.
(Or maybe I'm just picky because he's one of my favorite trolls)

Karkat and Gamzee are probably the two most cosplayed trolls and are very often incredibly sloppy. The number of Karkats and Gamzees with grey stains all over their shirt and pants well outnumbers those who have any idea how to do anything. Whereas someone like Eridan or the Signless are often tackled by someone who thinks they know what they're doing but really don't and fail in accurately portraying the character for any number of reasons, be it shitty capes or wigs or cloaks or anything else.
