I think the problems with strapless flats is that the lack of a strap makes it so there's no visual break-point at the ankle, which makes it look stubbier. Having the strap there gives the ankle some definition.

Flats are super versatile shoes because of that act.

If you wear them with jeans, they look really casual. But if you wear them with a fancier outfit, they look nice.

Plus, mary janes are a-okay in lolita, and those are just as casual as flats. And again, the only difference between flats and RHS is the god damn wood block.

You must have worn some ugly flats with lolita and got made of for it or something. The reason why people say NO FLATS, is because itas try to wear them instead of lolita shoes and it looks bad. I actually have not ever worn flats with lolita. I just don't fucking understand why there's some vendetta against them with lolitas. They generally will look nice with whatever you're wearing. I don't care that people like RHS, I just think it's fucking stupid that two pairs of shoes that look almost identical aside from a giant block of wood have completely different rules.

I disagree. The reason why mary janes and rocking horse shoes are acceptable and flats are generally not is because for the most part flats are considerably less decorated than the former two. at its plainest, a mary jane is a ballet flat with a strap near or around the ankle.

The rocking horse shoe goes by the same principle that it is a flat with other things added onto it. Even if you take off the wooden block from underneath, the shoe itself will still be decorated with the ribbons or whatever (i have yet to see a version of a rhs that's literally a flat glued onto a wooden block).

Also, even when the flats are decorated, the focus is placed around the toe area and the ankle is usually left plain, which doesn't work that well with lolita as (well this is my general observation anyways) there is usually some form of decoration around our ankles

I think flats are fine as long as they're cute and they match but if they're those ugly things that you can pick up at the bargain bin for a couple bucks, no I don't think anyone should wear them.

VW created rocking horses, japanese lolitas love VW, so it's a pretty popular shoe, and not all of them look like regular flats.

Also the old school favorite, Antenna RHS, did not look like flats at all. These are my ideal rhs, but unfortunately they're not around anymore.

I have the black ones with the velcro straps and whilst I'd lose all retail value, I'd probably wear them all if they were black (or even gold!), but I'm not sure the best way to do it without chipping and cracking.

I think since there's no creasing or stretching of the fake wood it doesn't matter what paint you use as long as it is suitable for the surface. You can get shoe paint, but it's tedious work to not have the brush strokes show. I would probably just try spray painting them. Obviously, you would need to do a couple of coats and possibly a top coat to seal it. Black x gold RHS sound amazing.
