Just a curious talk about drugs and cosplay.

As much as I have gotten high during after parties of cons, I have never been high in costume. Thinking of doing this at a con in March with edibles. Also shrooms but i am not experinced with those yet>

Speaking from experience, hallucinogens at a con can be either really really awesome or absolutely awful.
You have to be in a pretty good state of mind or all the crazy costumes and loud people will really mess you up.
If you decide to go with anything harder than green, start in your hotel room and wait for the peak to pass before wandering off anywhere. Also, have someone sober to keep an eye on you

anyway, OP, I've only ever been high or drunk after the con activities and I also really want to experience the con itself while on something...probably the best idea would be rolling on molly. all the hugs.
I'm afraid of going to a con while tripping on acid or shrooms in case of someone's costume freaking me out or sending me on a bad trip.
as far as weed or alcohol go I was just never able to do it because of a person who was always in our group who is one of those annoying kinds of straight edge people...

I could never do it at a con. I always need very relaxing environments when on drugs, even with Mdma (On Mdma I am actually one of the few people who do not want to be constantly hugged. I like being petted though or stroking through peoples hair, just less clingy contact) In my afterglow it would be fine walking the con floors, but when I would be in my peak, I would be freaking out. I hate loud and crowded places when I am sober and this is amplified when I am on drugs. So I prefer just sitting at home with friends who are the same as me and just talk in soft voices.

I'd say yes to weed, no to drinking. Weed is fine, harmless, and fun. I can tell you for fucking sure, though, 70% of the board has at least one shitty story about babysitting a friend who decided to get drunk at the con. Getting drunk is not going to make the convention more fun for you, I guarantee. If you're getting your money's worth at a con, you're actually doing shit at the con. You're going to panels, you're meeting artists/actors/writers, you're buying shit you can't otherwise get easily. Going to a good con probably means sacrificing one event for the other because your schedule should be crammed full of cool shit.

I'm not even going to get into HOW much getting drunk is going to make you a nuisance because I guarantee some people are going to be like "You don't know how GREAT and coherent and FUNNY I am drunk, I am never a burden to anyone I go with" and maybe 5% of drunks at a con are like that. It's great to meet your friends and have a drink, but save it for after con hours. I tend to drink at cons, but the real key is moderation. If you're too drunk to be out in public, then you're too drunk to be at the con. The con is not there to babysit you. if you can keep a handle on yourself, great. If not, find some friends who will.

Acid was like going to hell and back for me. The trip started off really good, me and my friend were walking around my apartment laughing constantly. The floor was glowing and the walls were shiny. Well, things were continuing good so I sat down on my couch. I have a rug with a spiral-ish pattern on it and the pattern was totally chaning(almost like watching TV). Well things started changing color, from white, to yellow, to bright orange, to green, and so on. Well after a longwhile, my rug started darkening and the bright orange it was started turning red and the border was turning black. This really freaked me out and I closed my eyes and tried to relax.
So my walls are white normally. Well they had turned green and dark purple and my friend turned into somebody totally different. He had black markings on his face and was carrying a knife. I watched his eyes get really squinty and turn gold. Freaked out, I go to lay down on my couch. He was staring at me from across the room when I realized his eyes were now completely black and he was starring me right in the eyes. I was absolutely mortified, my vision went totally blurry, started sweating, felt dizzy, and well felt like I was about to die.
I could say more but the fact is, my acid experience was horrifying and will probably never do it again. I talked to my friend afterwards about it and he was also having a horrible trip.
I think it would be an absolutely shit idea to do acid at a convention, what if everyone looked like that on an acid trip you went on one time? I felt like I was going to get killed by him and I hardly recognized him even though he was my friend.

I'm chalking it up to
1) Petty idiots think they can "hold their liquor" more than their peers and want to see them drunk and make fools of themselves. So they encourage everybody drinking know that they themselves wont get drunk as easily (and end up getting drunk anyway ha)
2) Petty idiots want to see other people drunk and make fools of themselves (or think they might be able to sleep with them) but drink very little themselves, then "act drunk". When reprised for stupid behaviour they take out "oh I was drunk sorry". Nobody believes them.
3) People feel insecure at the small amounts of alcohol they can ingest and want to show their friends they're in the cool ring.
4) People legitimately forget how many drinks they've had and drink too much.

As to the effects, there are generally angry drunks, happy drunks (hyperactive), overtly flirty drunks, sleepy drunks and hallucinating drunks. All of them are equally annoying to deal with with regards to getting sure they get home/to bed.

I love getting blasted on a few different substances, but usually I save it for raves and clubs. Cons are just so LONG that I really would rather the clear head and sleep, so usually I go light.

Weed: fun, but too much and you won't know what's going on and it sucks. Also your hotel mates will hate you if you stink the place up.

Alch: Getting moderately slitczhed and wandering the evening con events is awesome. Even more fun if you're caffeinated and crossfaded!

Molly: Save it for the dance. IMHO with molly either REALLY do it, or don't.

LSD: on a MILD dose ( ~75ug or less), acid just causes some euphoria and pretty colors, you can still hold lucid convos just fine. I wouldn't go over cause you're just gonna want to retreat to your room.

Shrooms: Comparable to LSD but... shrooms ALWAYS give me the farts and a stomach ache (why I stay away now). Considering everyone already eats like shit during cons this just sounds like a disaster.

A bit of weed would be fine. I sometimes dread dealing with people when i smoke a ton so i'd avoid that.

Alcohol would also probably be fine but sometimes you go over the limit without meaning too and you gotta take care not to smell.

I can't tell you how many times I've been high at cons. It's pretty nice but I find drinking better for the most part since it really opens me up to be social, which is why I'm there in the first place. Being high does have its merits though.

It's really good for going to a show and chilling out, like a concert or a panel. It also makes standing in line so much more enjoyable. Ditto for walking long distances like if you need to get to a gathering. Oh man, gatherings are great high too since you can bask in your high bliss while the photographers snap away. Basically it makes all the boring parts of a con enjoyable and all the fun parts even more fun. Unfortunately it tends to make me much slower in general; walking, talking, responding, planning, etc. so if you actually want to get shit done and not take it easy it's better to stay sober.

I've never ruined a cosplay while I was high or drunk, but I have spilled some stuff on them a couple times. I do that when I'm sober anyway so whatever.

Probably the hardest part is finding somewhere to smoke. I guess if you're bringing edibles it doesn't matter as much, but I'll explain anyhow. The easiest way is to get a hotel room with a window that opens and where nobody can really see you. This is more based on luck unless you specifically ask for a room like that. If that's not an option I've found parking garages to be great places to smoke. Nobody hangs out in them and there's plenty of places to hide. Joints are best for this sort of thing.

Personally I smoke pot on daily basis and I've been bringing my vaporizor to Otakon for 6 years now.

I have a lot of anxiety and it really helps me get through my periods (which always seem to fall during a con). I've been a daily smoker for 5 years now so it doesnt affect my motor skills but still helps relieve pain and calms me down. I usually smoke with friends at cons, I prefer it over drinking because I get hangovers really easily.

I've done LSD, MDMA, and 25i-NBOMe (an rc) several times (along with Adderall type meds, love the awake, hyperfocused feel). Had some great experiences and some bad. Molly would be fucking excellent at a con, but I'd never ever wanna take LSD and especially not an rc (too much anxiety). I feel like it would be conducive to a pretty horrifying trip. LSD especially is really beautiful if you have the right setting. For me it's less visual hallucinations and more of a complete change of perspective. I spent a while sitting in a huge walk in closet, in total darkness, perfectly still and imagined myself to be floating in a void, in space. Pretty neat thing to experience. Though I have had some crazy visuals, like a blue flower pin turning into water and flowing through my fingers.

As long as you don't abuse the shit out of them, certain drugs can be a lot of fun. That said, I wouldn't do PCP, meth, heroin, ketamine, etc.

Smoking weed at cons with my cosplay group is the funnest thing, since you can be in-character for it.

It seems like there is a lot of misinformation about how people act on drugs in this thread. Really it's only people who are inexperienced, who do not know how to handle themselves on drugs who cause problems like those stated in this thread.

Think about it like drinking. You wouldn't go to a bar and take 10 shots the first time you drank, so don't come to a con for your first time on LSD.

Been high twice and didn't like it. Was in costume both times, which was fun, but personally weed makes me way too anxious and awkward in crowded situations. Alcohol's mentally better for me, but it makes me so effin clumsy and prop-breaky. Cosplaying Ibuki Suika has been a blast every time though, under any influence.

I'd suggest sports or cooking, even better as a part of a tournament. Even if you don't have as much fun in those activities, you'll be able to harvest the fruits of your effort, with a stronger body and a stronger appetite.
Making them a competition makes the result a little bit better and usually more fun, as long as you play along.

Well you aren't going to be any good at anything if you don't do it at all. That's true of most activities, because a certain level of skill is needed which usually comes with repetition and practice. That's like saying "I'm never going to make a prop because I don't have Volpin's skill level", no one was born a professional. Some people start with more or less talent than others, but I was always told that I should try skill based activities for at least 6-8 weeks, and do them consistently for that time period, because that would give me a chance to be okay at it and make it more fun. I'm going to try to learn some basics of handbalancing and do some tricking and acro stuff this year because it looks freaking cool, plus I can free YouTube tutorial in my flat with a bunch of cushions for the basics.

That sounds like me and piano, but instead of travel it was trying to get into the uni course I wanted. It makes me frustrated every time I touch the piano especially because a lot of my friends continued playing and are now much better than I was. I'm thinking of taking it up again though because I used to really love it and there are still pieces I want to play, but idk if I can cope with what's likely to be months of practice and regaining skill plus I'd have to get a piano and probably start having lessons again. Although at least we both know we can be decent with practice, because we were previously at a higher level. It would suck more to do it and then make no progress.

We like to sit and watch older movies or play board games and card games.. Risk, munchkin, CAH, yugioh, mtg, hearts, etc.

Sometimes we go on long hikes or walks around the local park, bike rides you name it weve prolly been "stoned" for it.

Now is there a time I don't smoke? Yeah. Right now I'm at work, haven't smoked since last night and won't smoke until I'm home from my 8hr shift. And after being on my feet all day instead of taking 600-800mg of ibuprofin, IIll just take a few hits out of my bong and start working on my kigurumi or styling one of my wigs.

At cons I like to bring my vaporizor that way I can still smoke when I would like but not have any smell on my clothes or breath

How does one person doing drugs and drinkign alcohol ruin the ENTIRE con experience for you? I can see if this person was a friend or somebody close to you and they drag you into their bullshit, but if it jsut a random ass person who you don't know, unless they did something major to the whole convention, learn to ignore them.

Benzos (mostly Etizolam) have always been pretty good. Just takes all anxiety away, obviously, and lets you approach random people and talk freely without any anxiety at all. There's even a very tiny bit of euphoria at higher doses. Only downside is the reduced motor skills and that, if people do start drinking, it's going to potentiate the shit out of it and you'll get absolutely wasted and behave like a moron and you won't remember any of it. It plays pretty nice with weed though.

Also, you can get really paranoid around sober people. If you are around a lot of people, especially strangers, their faces can morph/look funny/seem scary.

Dear OP. When I first started going to cons I would smoke joints all through out the time. Before I walked in, when my friends would go out to have a cig, whenever I was outside basically. It was fun but you end up smelling bad.

I also go to cons while on speed and/or molly. It's fun and exciting, makes everything that much more intense. But be careful, some people can't control themselves and end up being/looking like crack heads. Don't let that be you, it ruins the con for everyone.
