They're probably going to portray Lolita as girls trying to be dolls which they're kinda right about to a certain degree. The only one of them that's addicted to the "doll" thing is the Justin guy. Having over a hundred cosmetic surgeries to look like a Ken doll goes waaaay past fashion.

The other two really are just fashion choices, though. None of the things they do even have permanent effects. Thinking "lolita=person wants to be a doll" is like thinking "goth=person wants to be the living dead/a vampire/whatever".

This has to be one of the easiest shows to cast. Find something weird, find the person online that wants the most attention. (or they come to you!) and you're done. Actually, TLC told her to host the tea party.

"Hello, I'm a friend of Emily's who signed a contract with her initially when they approached her for the original project, and your assumption is correct. I was contacted as well by one of the original producers alongside Emily to provide information to what Lolita was, its history, customs, etc, while they asked in association to the living doll culture, although we elaborated a bit more to them about it not necessarily being connected.

In the contracts shown and their information about the project, they never mentioned any affiliation about the My Strange Addiction show. They explained it was going to a positive and informative documentary about living dolls and to inform people about them in what seemed to be more as informative of the doll culture, which they also believed to associate with Lolita as well. There were some "set up" scenes filmed during the project, many of which did seem to stir more "drama", although at the time, it was just assumed to make some kind of conflict added into the overall documentary, not necessarily meant to overshadow its informative nature.

The unfortunate news is quite a surprise to both of us, as there was no indication to the connection between the subculture to it being about the "addiction of looking like a doll".

The producers as well who worked throughout the process did not seem to know anything about what they were filming. A lot of the process was extremely poorly organized, and they had very very limited information to even help them organize any relevant information on lolita/living dolls or anything."

Based on the previews I saw, it seems to be more about their lifestyles, with lolita fashion being just one facet of it.
