i'm making a default lulu skin cosplay and need wig advice! i think everyone gets her wig wrong by wearing a really long straight wig. her hair is super long but it has tons of volume and it's kind of crazy at the ends.

does anyone know how i can achieve this? i was thinking a lolita wig base with some wefts might be the best option. do any of you have any go to lolita wig stores?

White crepe for the outer layer, polyester crepe is going to be better than silk because you can clean it after it's been dragged around the convention center.
Something with a plain weave, like a synthetic version of habotai, will probably look fine for the red juban. If you use something stiffer or brocaded the crepe might ride weirdly over it. Stencil the gold on.
Dupioni looks nice for obi, it's stiff and it's got an appropriately contrasting texture.

I found a pattern I needed for a cosplay but the pattern states to use jersey knit fabric. I am still a little clueless on what kind of fabric exactly to use to make the dress, but I at least know I do not want it in a stretchy form-fitting fabric like jersey knit.
Can I still use the pattern? I really only need it for the sleeves, neckline, and bodice, as I would be making a rectangle skirt not from the pattern.

>>7254259
Might help if you tell us the pattern name/brand/number/post a picture. Some of it might just not work in non-stretchy fabrics. If you render a four-piece t-shirt pattern in a knit fabric, it fits your curves: if you do it in a woven fabric it looks like a sack. If there are darts/princess seams or a closure of some variety I think it'll be okay.

>> No.7255351

>>7255086
That pattern relies on stretch to make the bodice fit. If you use a woven material, it's going to squash your chest and hang around your waist. You can theoretically fix this with darts, but I think you'll have an easier time if you pick up another pattern made for wovens, like M6741. Mash the two together - use the bodice of the 2nd pattern, then use the sleeves and neckline from the one you have.

>> No.7255363

>>7255311
A cheaper price than what? How exact do you need it to be? You might find a similar coat at goodwill and remove the sleeves, possibly even a vest. Otherwise, cargo vests are fairly easy to find. Sporting goods stores carry them, ebay tells me you can buy one for pretty cheap, but these won't be exact. The pockets and front closure are most noticeably different. Everything can be made, but whether it can be made by you depends on your experience. Have you any sewing experince? If not, all those details can be quite intimidating.

How much time/effort can I expect to put into a pair of large angel wings (pic related)? I've looked through a lot of tutorials/approaches and think I would do a wire frame + fabric overlay with feathers glued on for portability and ease (I don't have the space or tools to do the whole PVC thing). You don't have pvc glue and a heat gun? $35 at Home Depot.

Anyway, the time is dependent on the type of feathers you use and their size, how big the rig needs to be for you, and how efficient you are and how few mistakes you make along the way. It is far too subjective to say it will take X amount of time. And the effort that goes into it is all up to you. wearing heels is about two things: heels that aren't absolute garbage and your own walking form. if the shoe holds your foot in place properly, fits properly, and has good support through the whole footbed then insoles aren't necessary and insoles will only help to correct footbed support and minor fit issues; if the heels are just trash then nothing will help.

as for walking, you just need to have good form, you need to be able to keep your foot relaxed and your weight centered over the whole foot as you do when wearing flats, and you need to do all the work of lifting and moving your legs and feet from your stomach, butt, and hips and thighs. go watch runway models strut, seriously, their form is hyper-correct.

I'm trying to make a Vash The Stampede jacket for one of my friends for a convention sometime next year and I could use some helpful hints. I want the jacket to look almost exactly like the one from the figure picture here, but I'm not sure what to do patterning-wise. I know I'll have to probably make it in three different parts (The collar, the actual jacket, and the long train of buttoned fabric in the front) and I have the measurements I need for the long buttoned part and a Matrix Jacket pattern as a base, but I'm not very good at making my own patterns from things, and the collar is going to have to be patterned from scratch most likely. I also don't really know how to weather or wear fabric and the closest thing I've done to it is bleaching a pair of overalls for fading...And I've never worked with leather or pleather extensively before so I have no idea how to like, work it.

I've tried looking up patterns for Vash jackets online and they just don't look the same or are crazy expensive. I know this is a long list of 'i don't know how to do these things' but I'm still learning how to make things come out not only looking nice but feeling nice, and I figured coming here and asking for some hints would probably help me more than anything I've done so far.

'almost instantly' is kind of misleading.
great stuff is fantastic to carve, if you don't get too many big bubbles. but you wanna let that shit fully cure (2-8 hours, depending on how thick you dispense it) before touching it. whatever it touches while wet it forms a lifelong fucking bond, and trying to wipe it off makes it worse. also the foam itself will go flat if you touch it while it's wet.
WEAR GLOVES and wear old clothes while it's wet, and let it fully cure before handling/attempting to carve.

The reason I want a smaller diameter is because Accelerator's got a bit of a sharp, crazy thing going on, and big round doe eyes would look strange with him, I'd imagine.

I've asked my friends, and they keep telling me it looks like a turban. No one can give me a name for it, and I know its not that.

Quick question guys - I'm working with spandex for the first time and I was wondering what the best way to hem the neckline of a spandex/lycra bodysuit would be. Since it will be very noticeable I thought I'd ask first. I also don't have a serger and uh....my sewing machine doesn't do zigzag stitches. It's really old. Thanks!

>> No.7274825

>>7274804
First off, the way to hem the neck line would all depend on the type of neck line you're doing. Post a picture of what you want to achieve, and then we can assist better.
Secondly, you really should not be sewing a spandex or lycra bodysuit on a machine that can't do a zig zag stitch. Using a basic straight stitch for fabrics with such a high degree of stretch is really bad, as the stitch will not hold up against the stretch and your seams will fail.

To be honest, Anon, I'm going to agree with your friends. It's not exactly a turban, but it's turban-inspired. A lot of vintage hats in the 50s were made in this style. Comparing to other pictures of Hana, it definitely has the typical V-shape at front like a turban in some pictures, even if other pictures just make it seems like a rolled brim hat. (Animation laziness? It happens sometimes.)

Look through a google image search of "red turban hat" and see if there's anything there that you think would work. There's a good handful of etsy sellers that have vintage hats or people that handmake hats. (Picture related-- a knit hat from etsy.)

If you can sew, there's this tutorial that I found that might work for you, with some editing.

This is probably a dumb question, but what kind of style is this coat where it puffs out at the waist and how do I make/achieve that look? Would a normal thigh length coat work and I just force a petti under it or..?

And her sleeves, I assume just make it the way you would for Miku Hatsune's arm sleeves?

>> No.7277029

With an average coat, I'm afraid that a petti might not be able to go under it (seeing as the puffiness would require more fabric). Perhaps you could try finding lolita coat patterns, I think I saw some posted on /cgl/ so you could check the archive.

For the arm sleeves/warmers, yes it would be the same as Miku. It looks like it would be a deal heavier though, so you might have more problems with it sliding ...

- We'll fight about anything, really.
- All cosplay allowed! Mainly anime etc. appears because... well, it's 4chan, but it's refreshing to see other stuff.
- Selfposting acceptance is entirely contextual. Asking for advice or posting your cosplay in a specific themed thread is okay, but it's 4chan, so there will probably be comments with any photo of yourself. I would use the green foam you can get at JoAnns, it is stretchy and you can make it sit properly on your wrist by adding a strip on the inside so that it has extra padding over the thinnest part of your arm/wrist. Revolvers like that are almost always hand engraved. An alternative would be to look into etching. You can make the pattern using wax, an old sponge, some salt water, and a battery. There was a discussion about this a while ago and really the only feasible option would be to make a gored skirt (i.e. cut slits in the skirt and sew triangle-shaped pieces of fabric in, then pleat). But I'm just adding a waist seam -- with proper seam finishing/ironing, it shouldn't be that noticeable, especially because of the armor.

Would I be able to find fabric for the pattern on this skirt, or should I just use stamps on a black fabric?

Also, what do you seagulls do for your boobs when your top is completely open in the front? The internet tells me to just use tape, but would it be possible to make like... a sort of backwards bra that doesn't show in the front?

Search ice skating leotard sewing pattern.

The best one I've found in stores for making sailor scout leotards with is Kwik Sew 3836. Especially since it actually has the underbust seam unlike some other patterns. It even has the v-shaped you would attach the hip roll and skirt too.

I plan to cosplay sailor Pluto for a con in May. I feel more than confident enough in my sewing abilities to make the fuku and bows and gloves but I have very little prop/accessory experience.

Anyone have any good tutorials on how to make gems/brooches for the tiaras and the chest bow?

Also, Pluto has that handy little Time rod. I feel it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out but in case anyone has ran into any process guides on how to make one that would be pretty helpful!

Okay this isn't about cosplay and probably sounds really fucking stupid, but I've been wanting to get into wearing lolita for a while now, but still have one question. I'm kind of a generally messy person, and I stress about wearing lolita and not getting it super dirty. I need help, Metal Gear RAY... I've seen Volpins big daddy tutorial where he uses cardboard and insulation foam with fabric but the part that kills my budget is the fiberglass

I'm wondering if there's and alternate material/coating to do this- I was considering polyurethane and heat gunning parts into the correct shapes over a PVC frame as well as cardboard base with EVA foam and mod podge to seal (this has worked well for my armor type cosplays/accessories in the past)

There was another big daddy who said he used Bondo but that hardens to really hard material and is heavy over large areas...

Thinking of making digigrade stilts too...

I want to also make this able to break into sheets/pieces since my car can only fit so much

Trouble is with projects like that you can't have a tight budget. You need to spend the money or it will look like shit, you don't want to spend all that time on it only for the materials to let you down.

No, that is not what is looked down on. What people look down on is when those who buy their costumes come here asking for critique or comments or looking for accolades on their costume. it's fine to buy a costume and have fun with it, but realize that you are wearing someone else's work and are a different category of cosplayer.

I do not like to discourage other cosplayers, but this is not a good idea for a first time outfit. It is very complex and even people who have been making costumes for years would find this a daunting and challenging costume to make. I do not recommend doing it if you are that inexperienced. It will not turn out well, and will cost you far more than most are willing to put into a costume of this nature.

If you're really set on cosplaying him and have the money to do so, just hire a commissioner to take this on. Like the other anon said, this is not a beginners project and you'll most likely get discouraged and frustrated at your results.

As for another costume, take a look at games you've played. Find a character you like with clothes you can easily find and work with or a simpler pattern without much modification needed. You'll find cosplay much more enjoyable if it's a character/series you know plus you won't look like an idiot in front of other fans.

I never liked the look of rolled up bottoms for Luffy's pants. Maybe it's cause I've never seen it done well but it seems like the cosplayer just threw on jeans from their closet and rolled them up/were too lazy to put in some effort. Unless you're going for a more casual, realistic look, using fur or fleece really adds to the cartoon-y, unrealistic style OP has.

So I want to cosplay Bong-Cha/Bobby from Olympus Overdrive but I'm not sure what to do about her wig. I just don't know what would look better, shaping out her pigtails exactly like they are in her design, or going about a more natural look.
I'm thinking making two large pigtails might look more accurate, but a lot of characters have overly poofy hair that doesn't tend to transfer over to cosplay well/easily (examp. SeeU)
Any ideas? Thanks.

Depending on how much volume you want, I'd suggest either buying a set of clip ons and teasing the underlayers out, or frankensteining two clips together and teasing for each pigtail.

Either way, I'm really excited that others are also planning OO cosplays!
