Why are people on egl so accommodating to people asking questions whose answers are so easily searchable or accessible through the memories? I'm not saying we should be assholes to them but sometimes I just think egl should make the collective decision to either ignore those posts or just leave them a couple links with little comment like "I got this off the front page of the egl comm" or "first result of 'taobao shopping service' on Google."

Do you have any noob tales when it comes to the social sphere of lolita? Were you that girl who always commented "if only I had enough money!" or debated whether to come out to your comm about your vaguely-related kink or went on a tirade about elitists on your blog after someone made a helpful suggestion?

I have nothing to lose. I'll try being a bit more snarky from now on.

>Were you that girl who always commented "if only I had enough money!"
Yes that was me :( Until I saw other newbies doing it CONSTANTLY and realized how obnoxious it was. I seriously messaged my best friend in the comm and apologized for being a dumb shit. I can't think of anything else particularly annoying I did.

I got called out on getoffegl back when the celticfreefall/poppingummies/vomitrocity/etc. gang were at it for something mundane. I found it while tipsy and I, new to getoffegl, made a post about them under another account and how unnecessarily mean they'd been. They, of course, proceeded to be even meaner and were joined by their gang of asslickers. That was back in like 2006/7 and honestly I still think they were in the wrong and I'm glad they're gone but it was a mistake to make a gtfo before I understood "getoffegl culture."

I don't like how largely dead getoffegl is now or how PC some of its members have become but I'm glad it's not a handful of bullies and their blind whiteknights.

Honestly, I don't mind giving the easy and obvious answers to these questions if it makes newbies informed and grateful for the help. The only time it ever pisses me off is when newbies ask for really obvious advice but don't take it from seasoned lolitas, or are just really stubborn/argumentative about everything.

At this point EGL is so dead those posts aren't as much of a problem as they used to be unless it's one person spamming a dozen one-liner question posts in a row.
In the past when EGL was more active those lame posts would be bumping down more relevant posts and cluttering up the page, but we get an average of one post a day.
Not to mention many of the posts in the memories are out-of-date, and the search engine sucks.

So I guess it doesn't really bother me. They already made the post, so it's just as much effort to politely refer them to wherever they can find the answer (assuming it's really obvious) as it is to make a dickish reply that will only stir up drama.

It was an image request phrased like "do you have any images of x? Post them in the comments." and gtfo got mad because I didn't say please/thank you/other niceties. I'm not even kidding.

I'd agree with you sometimes, but especially with the recent post with the tall fat noob, I just searched "plus size lolita" on Google and the top 2 non-ad results are a plus-size tumblr with a shopping guide and EGL Plus. There's really no excuse. They should just be ignored.

This was me, like 6-7 years ago when Lolita started to interest me a bit. "It's so expensive!", "I can't afford $400 dresses!", "Nothing will fit me! It's all made so TINY!"

I probably made a lot of people eye-roll back then. I'm just glad that I don't think I ever called it "Rorita" to everyone. I've had a fair share of people calling it that while talking to me, along those same lines.

I think the first post I made to anywhere in the Lolita community was asking why the fuck Infanta's Taobao was suddenly filled with motorcycles ((the day I was planning on placing my first Taobao order no less.))

Other than being extremely nervous about screwing things up when buying from the Sales comm I think I've managed not to too badly embarrass myself though. Glad I waited until my online social graces developed to get onto LJ, even if it means I missed the glory days.

I have been seeing a TON of self intro posts lately. It pisses me off and no one is calling out the stupid noobs. The mods need to jump in and tell them that no, their posts are not allowed and to please read the comm rules. Oh, you want to leave the stupid intro up and turn it into an easily googled question? no. do some of the research for yourself. The main comm is not a stage to make your ita debut.

I think it's funny how so many of the most unpleasant lolitas (celtic, czol, vomitrocity, tiferet) are so unattractive. The egl community on LJ is very different from /cgl/, anon. It's very accommodating to lazy newbies and always teetering on the brink of being a haven for those oversensitive to criticism.
Try to know what you're talking about before being so snarky. Being wrong while making fun of others is not a good look.

When I first joined, EGL was a place of cruelty and demanded a pretty high level of "don't act like a fucking noob" attitude. It was a little off-putting.

When lolita fucks was active, getoffegl had power, the side comms actually had people and events in them, and there was no such thing as facebook groups... my, my, those were the days.

There were a bunch of total asshats running around that were constantly being ego-stroked, but a lot less stupid was tolerated. That was when lolitas had a reputation for being mean as hell. I think a lot of this superniceness is a way to try to undo the reputation we had, and I think it's going too far in tolerating fucking dumbasses.

She's definitely not the ugliest person I've ever seen, but still, with a face like that you should not be criticizing other people's appearance. It only draws attention to your own flaws and anything charming you may have had is negated by a shit personality.

That's because Japanese fat chicks don't look fat to westerners. Our "chubby" is their "landwhale", our "anorexic/super slim" is their "normal". They've done studies showing that average BMI for young women has gone DOWN over time, and their average female BMI sits close to nations that are war-torn and quite a lot more impoverished, like Sudan.

It probably has a lot to do with being proportionally smaller as well, though. Western women are generally taller than Asians, so on average sizes are larger because taller people are also generally larger.

Of course, the vanity sizing and fatties affect it as well, no denying that. They seem to have a smaller range of sizes than, say, NA.

The size difference is really only about 1 size down. A Japanese L would be equivalent to a US M. A LL in Japanese would be an US L. Give or take with the brand, cut, or item in question.

It sounds like you're implying a US size 8 to be more comparable to a US 24W if it were Japanese, or a XXS in the US being the complete norm.

I mean have you ever seen size 0, 00 pant sizes? Japanese aren't toothpick midgets or something jfc.

>> No.7247753

>>7243272
Agreed. I studied in Japan and while the average is definitely smaller, people don't look like the girls in the gyaru magazines, just like people don't look like the tall leggy models with high cheekbones here in the West. I'm a US size 0/00 and most of the "one size" things from Japan are too big, sometimes awkwardly so. Also, keep in mind that frames are smaller over there: shoulders, ribcages, breasts, hips, etc. So while a Japanese girl might look healthy and youthful at 95lbs, a Western girl of the same height and age might look bony and haggard.
