Can we have a "help me coord this" thread?
I have had this jsk in my closet forever and despite it being my favorite piece I've never worn it.
My wardrobe is all sweet and mostly Angelic Pretty. I have a really hard time finding and picking out darker pieces.
I don't want to go all black. I like gothic styles and classic, but I've just never tried either.

Gold blouse, gold and black tights. gold shoes?

or, you could try to coord it with lavender, but you'd still have to tie the gold in IMO

Something without a collar would look best like a turtle neck style cutsew. I had a bitch trying to match the mint with other AP mint on some cutsews though, I have the skirt, and I ended up selling it. But lavender may work as well.

>> No.7230752

I would go for a nice warm cardigan in a matching colour.
If you choose a blose/cutsew, choose one with a lowe,r round and small collar; I'd go for a cutsew as I feel that most collared blouses will be harder to match the collar of the JSK.
Sorry that I have no matching pic D:

If you don't want to go all black I would say wear a white blouse with something gold at the collar like a flower corsage or a necklace, have white socks with gold print, headress can be black with something like gold flowers. You can also try a beige blouse and socks, I've seen it worn succesfully with black/gold.

sort of newbie here, nabbed this skirt a while ago cause it was pretty cheap, but then realized I don't know how to coord skirts for the life of me. Tried to look up coords with gingham skirts for inspiration, but every thing looks too plain and/or unflattering.

I was thinking some kind of country-style would be the easiest but????? Suspenders can be removed by the way

First, remove the suspenders. They are incredibly hard to pulll off without looking like a fool, and they'll only work with very very small boobs. So remove them.

The colour of the skirt is is red/white, so I personally would go for a little red riging hood theme. White blouse, red cape, a beret, and a straw bag (or simple grown handbag if you want to look less sweet), and brown may janes or brown boots (so it doesn't look too sweet.)

>> No.7232098

>>7231440
I should probably mention that I'm more into sweet, so a vest is a little too classic/aristo for my taste. I like the idea of vest/corset and skirt set, just not really on me, and probably not with a skirt this sweet style

>>7232081
Thanks! Though the skirt is actually more of a pink-red than actual red (damn you AP and your weird colors) I could definitely work off this. I do have some almost matching fabric (same color but slightly different pattern) that I could make some small accessories out of though so it isn't a big deal I guess.
I'm actually quite, uh, flat...so the suspenders actually didn't look too bad when I tried it on, but I kind felt like they'd just make it harder to coord anyways.

>> No.7232133

>>7232098

Oops, did not see this on the picture, I thought the skirt was just red and white. I still stand with a nice white blouse and maybe a nice cardigan? What kind of accessoires do you plan?

Hm, the supsenders *could* work. But honestly, as you wrote, they just make the coord way more difficult. And I personally have to say that I would remove them because 98% of the time it just doesn't work.

Even though it's an "easy" piece, they want to style it in a way that's out of their comfort zone, so I don't blame them for wanting help.

I actually kinda want to go with your original suggestion of a cape, since I've always wanted to do a coord with a cape. if everything else is red i could probably off set it with hair bows or even rrplacing the bow on the capelet i guess????? Iunno we'll see tbh

>> No.7232435

>>7232415
That much red and with shade if pink would clash pretty badly, though. Dark pink is a pretty difficult shade to match. You can either try to match the dark pink or bring some of AP's "normal" pink into the coord if that's too much. Here's what I would do:

-Dark pink headgear (a matching headbow ideally if you can find it so the skirt is not the only gingham item)
-Pink caplet + optional pink bustier. A bustier makes a skirt/blouse combination look 'neater' imho. Sometimes a cape and skirt can look a bit blocky, so a bustier would give it some much-needed structure.
-White blouse (if you can find one with dark pink accents so much the better, but baby pink or just white on white will do, too)
-Pink x white socks
-Dark pink shoes
-Dark pink bag
-Accessories that use pink x dark pink combination to further tie the whole thing together. It would be nice if you could find a bracelet and ring set as well as a brooch (since a necklace may look awkward) for your cape.

Further tips:

-Make sure all your dark pinks match and your baby pinks match.
-If you can come up with a cohesive 'theme' for your accessories and individual pieces--such as flowers or rabbits--it will bring the look together more. Rabbits would be cute since it's getting to be wintertime in most places.
-Any other little detail that you can play with in the outfit would enhance how put-together the coord looks. Does your bag have pearl detailing? Maybe find jewelry that fits your theme, but also has pearls. Shoes and head wear often feature pearls as well, so maybe that's something you can consider, too. The same goes for other small touches like lace, metal detailing and things like pin-tucking. It can also extend to more subtle motifs like hearts and bows.

I have been wearing it since I was around 19. I'm 25 now. I get that it's a basic piece, solid color and all, but I want to style it in a way that isn't basic. It's also the only black item I own. I have zero experience with gothic and classic styles. I want something OTT with this piece because I love it so much, but my only experience with OTT looks is sugary sweet. Sweet OTT is quite different.
I'm trying to avoid all black as well. Things like "wear it with gold" are already obvious to me.

I'm average size I think, 5'2 112 pounds and athletic. The measurements on this version of the jsk fit just right. Bust is 34" inches and the waist accommodates up to 26". I have an oval face shape, never tried a bonnet, but I don't think it would suit me. I dislike rectangle head dresses, but everything else is fine with me. Light skin, medium brown log hair and I prefer my natural hair to wigs. I don't have a fringe but I think head bows still look good on me.
I want to start working classic into my wardrobe more, dark colors like burgundy and jewel tones.
I really want to get more wear out of this jsk so I would like an OTT gothic coord as well.

Is this thread still open for coord help?

I'm not sure how I feel about this coord. Generally a gosu rori, so attempting sweet is scary. I want to keep it somewhat elegant? I have a pink peter-pan collared blouse that I already own from vintage finds, and I'd like to use it. Sadly, it's in the laundry, so no pictures for now. I'm not sure if I should work in more mint somehow..? Or trade the pink capelet for a white one, if I get a capelet at all?

I also have no idea about how nice Dream V shoes are, but they're like. $11 or something ridiculously low, so I definitely don't mind trying them out. I could only find like one review, and the person said they were good?? Well, dang diddly, I'll try them.

Another problem: how do you make certain you are getting shades of colors that are similar, and not jarringly different? It's a pet peeve of mine when I see Sweet Lolita, so I surely don't want to make that mistake...

those shoes are too peach to match the dress, you need a pink that's less warm and more of a cool-toned pink. the accessories are cute, but the dress is almost not elegant enough for the accessories. keep it simple and try a white chiffon blouse or bolero, pink hair flowers, and simple gold + pink bracelets with floral accents, maybe even a small gold tiara to match. hime can look super classy. i'd say personally if i were making this coord i would ditch the tights and try solid white tights or OTKs with a floral pattern like pic related.

They seem to work okay together but I don't really know what to do with the rest of the coord. I have a lot of skirts in my closet, some from LPs, others that I've sought after on purpose. Where I'm running in to trouble is with my light colored skirts. I have a few in very light colors, like white and off-white, but it seems sort of blah to wear them with a white top and run the risk of being marshmallow-chan. I've already purchased both the star clips and the headband, so now I'm on the fence about whether I should get silver shoes and a silver purse? Both I would have to get custom made.

Now I'm thinking I might have too much silver going on? So I was thinking maybe a white purse with the silver shoes? Or maybe just going with navy or black shoes?? I guess I'm just really in-between colors right now, would love if someone could help push me in the right direction!

Also, I'd go for a black bag, black tights (with some silver sparkles? I know H&M sells those) and blue shoes.
Not too sure about silver shoes / bag, if you could get yourself some nice costum made then maybe go for it. But I'd rather go for a silver bag and darker shoes.

Not always true imo. As long as they are in the same color temperature, they will still look fine together. For example when people bitch about pinks not matching, usually it's offensive to your eyes because a cool, blue-toned pink is being mixed with a warm, yellow-toned pink.

Same goes for browns. Match golden yellow-toned browns together, warm red-toned browns together, and cool green or blue-toned browns together- but don't intermix them. This gives more visual interest than a solid block of the exact same shade.

To get the same amount of poof as in the stock picture, you'll probably need two Victoriangirlsdress petticoats.
The shoes look lovely. Add a cream or white chiffon blouse, matching tights and a wine red floral hair accessory and you've got yourself a nice, if very casual, lolita coord.

I have another MM A-line skirt and when I wear it with one VGD petticoat, it looks just like the stock picture. My skirt has a ruffle on the bottom, though, which hides that the petticoat is actually too short for it. This skirt would probably look poofy enough with 1 petticoat, but you might get that drop-off effect at the bottom. The shape of the VGD petti is right, though, so I definitely suggest you get it instead of that Modcloth one, which is overpriced and very flat-looking.

Does anyone have recommendations for a cute, but mature shoulder purse that would match the strange denim-like color of navy Grazia Crown? Bonus points if it's fairly large. I don't care what the source or brand is.

I'd say go for the purple necklace to tie the shoes in a little more.

Both the socks and tights are quite busy and I think there's a lot going on already with the rest of the outfit so maybe opt for something plain instead?
Idk, that's just personal opinion though. If your only options are the two you have pictured I'd opt for the socks.

Also, I'm not 100% on the pink blouse with a pink JSK. I think the white version of the blouse would match a bit better and be a bit more versatile.

It's still a pretty cute outfit and you're on the right track. Best of luck.

Switch the shoes and the beret, I do not think tht black shoes will work well with the JSK since the main colour is a soft grey-ish brown tone. Black would be too harsh in my opinion. Go for some dark brown boots /mary janes with some heels. I'd leave out the beret as I do not think it looks very good (you have pearls, but the fur does not really match the theme) but that is just my personal taste.
Blouse is alright. Add some more accessoires with pearls, bracelett for example.

Maybe go for a bolero like in the picture?

Spotted this OP and decided it'll make a good dress for an Easter meet.

I'm just stuck with bringing the red in, as I don't want to have it over power the black/gold.

I'll either get the bodice made longer or change it to a skirt as it's too short on it's own.
I'd like a black/red/gold theme as I already own a few other items that would make this a fairly cheap co-ord.

The hat will be a black boater with red roses and a small/medium pair of rabbit ears. I'm ok to not have the fur covered ears. I may change the head dress to a pair of lace rabbit ears.

Any advice is welcome and thanks in advance

Oh wow anon, thank you so much! I would never have worked out who the portrait was of on my own. It's very interesting but now I feel like a bit of a douche for owning a pair of tights depicting a young girl that died of a terrible fever aged 6. I did manage to discover however that the chambers on the left leg belong to the Circus Maximus, a Roman chariot racing stadium. All quite bizarre really, I can't help but think they were trying to say something but I have no idea what(!). Either way it seems a bit dark and possibly a tad pretentious. I'm probably over-thinking it and should just wear the damn things anyway, but the more I discover, the more I feel weird about owning them.

Should have gone for the 'Magical Telescope' design instead(!).

So I'm a huge newbie and am not the best at creating coords just yet, so this thread is great for me. Forgive how dumb I am, seagulls!

I ordered pic related during closetchild's christmas sale, it's from BtSSB and I believe the name for it is Original Tartan Check Frill Skirt in the black/pink colorway.

I think that all looks great, only thing I would suggest is that the necklace should be a little more elaborate, detailed and perhaps fairy-tale like - it's nice but it seems too ordinary mainstream compared to the nature of the dress, which is anything but everyday and commonplace. I'd still go for something elegant, just think details.

I can't see any type of cardigan or jacket really working with that sleeves cut, instead a traditional lolita shape coat would be much better in my opinion, if you need warmth when outside etc.

sorry that entire coord looks really bad and i dont even know where to start. it would probably just be better off with some cute eccentric clothes other than the ones used in lolita fashion.

the bloomers, especially, are very out-of place. It would be much better with cute shorts, and I'd suggest offwhite or pink thigh-highs. I personally don't like the wig and prefer dyed hair for this kind of on-the-streets-of-harajuku look. If you cant or dont want to dye your hair, natural would probably be best, so you look cute and cozy without looking oddly overdone or trying too hard.

If youre shopping right now I'd suggest a cute bright blush and pink eyeshadow as well. I think the blouse would be best if it was chiffon, and the vest was of very high quality.

best bet might be to remove the bow and try to tone down the coord with mostly black pieces
and a hairpiece like pic related

Yeah that bow is detachable, I wouldn't let it hang there. I think it's pretty enough to keep for places where my clothes might get dirty or for like, family events. I was hoping to find a way to make it look fancy enough to wear to a meet up but it seems I'll have to give up hope!

Got this in the mail recently, I love it and have made several coords with it except for the headwear. I don't like head eating bows and I didn't buy the matching one to it, but I don't feel like floral accessories go with this dress at all and they conform most of my headgear, so I'm at a loss. The only time I have worn it out I used some twin bow clips in black trimmed with gold but I wanted to see what else can you come up with.

Cloche hats, wide rimmed black hats. Look at some vintage stores, or even f21/h&m. Canotiers, rose clips, the possibility is endless depending on the look and feel you want.

So I bought two bodyline poodle apron skirts, removed the aprons and turned the hearts into a tote bag and then made wrist cuffs and a headbow. I still have a bunch of fabric left as well as a bunch of small bows and some plastic pearls. What socks should I buy to pair, and what else should I make to match? I plan on wearing a wavy blonde wig and blue contacts when I wear this If that helps any

If you're into bonnets, you can use leftover fabric to make one. I think white ankle socks would work ok if you accent your shoes with some blue.

Ugh, vintage stores are utter crap around here and my country doesn't have f21. I guess I'm out of luck with that. As I said in my original posts I think that flowers look awkward with this print because they don't fit the theme at all. Do you think a beret would work?

(Sorry if I sound harsh, I'm just a bit hungover)

>> No.7272638

>>7272628
You're mild by cgl standards. Berets would be fine. You can etsy for vintage hats. F21 was just a suggestion. Your country probably has something similar.

I have a meetup coming up...and stupidly I left half of my wardrobe behind at uni. These are the most appropriate shoes I have, particularly with the weather, and this is also the most meetup-appropriate dress I brought back with me (I brought mostly casual skirts).

I'm not sure if it works. Are the boots too much brown when there isn't any elsewhere?

The bag and flower don't go, IMO, but the rest looks cute (is your hair dark or are you using that wig, I can't tell? If its the wig it should balance the boots out fine!). If you don't have any appropriate headwear you could just do a fancy up-do with your hair/wig(?)? I love that blouse though, where is it from?

>> No.7274136

Thank you! My hair is dark and curly like that, it was the closest wig I could find. The blouse is from Dorothy Perkins (UK shop), but I've had it for about a year now. Fancy up-do it is, then!

I think you have to throw in a little bit of the red and blue from the tights to tie them in. I would add a brooch or shoe clips or a little accent accessory added on to whatever you put in your hair (or maybe a combo of the three). Honestly I would personally ditch the pink altogether if I were going to use those tights, but you could probably make it work.
