Really want to make an Assassin's Creed outfit but I have little to no references on the outfits themselves. Anyone care to post some stuff? Other cosplays would be loved as well! Assassin's Creed threat?

>> No.7228120

I don't have any references, but I do have a threat.

FUCKING POST YOUR OWN SHIT FIRST FOR A REQUEST THREAD OR I'M GOING TO BREAK YOUR COPIES OF ASSASSIN'S CREED.

For starters, which assassin are you looking to do? There's a few to pick from.. You should also know that they're not easy starter cosplays.

I started making an Altair costume last year, the hood is becoming the bane of my existence. I have made 3 so far each one just doesn't quite look right. and the closest one is made in a heavy canvas that needs some serious tweaking to get it to look right.

Right now I have been going over the leathers, the belts and bracers, scabbard components trying to make it all fit together. I opted for Linen instead of cotton to get the right grain look of the fabric. though this is often the problem I find in making "pseudo historical" garb. 3d mesh and skins suggest one thing while reality is far more unforgiving. I think for the next hood design i am going to incorporate a bit of interfacing around the opening of the hood to get the right stiffness and I believe I've found the magic ratio for making the 3 piece hood properly fit without being too wide on the top and giving it a stiff seem line.

Most of my background in costuming comes from making Medieval garb and armor so this project felt like it would be a good easy fit. The costumes i have made for others were mostly re-purposed mundane clothing that i altered . Or designs extrapolated from simplistic anime characters that didn't require as much trial and error.

For any of the Assassin's costumes I would recommend looking for some Period patterns, there are lots to choose from that you can alter into the right kind of attire for each of the characters. Though there are exaggerations in each of the time period styles each character has Ezio and Nikolai are by far the easiest. (discounting the frilly bits of Ezio's leathers.)

If you want to reduce the heat problem with multiple layers you can switch to light weight cotton and muslin for the undershirt and save the heavier fabric for the surcoat/robe. also you want to use a more generous cut so that the layers aren't being compressed to your body any more than they have to. Middle eastern clothing of the time and even now uses lightweight, thin fabrics in layers that allow air in and out without trapping much heat while still covering most of your body to protect from the sun.

Where ever the armor and leather bits are pulling the clothing tight to your body will make you sweat so use as few layers there as you can. the boots can be faked with a pair of nondescript leather work boots, the kind without laces and making a set of spats or boot covers to get the look you want from the footwear

That's a lot of work. Wishing you all the job to make that costume. I love seeing it done by real cosplayers and not store bought.

I don't understand why people do this as their first ever cosplay a lot.

Because it Looks so easy. When you break it down the AC1 costume is a hood, a white surcoat, pants and a few belts and easily made pleather bracers. But when you get into It you realize that the people who made the game did more research than you, and no modern fabrics look correct. Hell I am not even happy with my machine stitching though the prospect of hand sewing the parts that stand out really drains my motivation to get it done.

The first of the bracer plates i finished went into a pot of wax I use for armor Cuir Bouilli and it was too hot and cooked and shriveled instantly. 4 hours of tooling gone in seconds, and a 12 megaton F-bomb erupts from my kitchen. I had cooked the wax for armor bend leather and had some really thin stuff in the pot.

Remember that you're looking at Syria c.1189/Third Crusade. Their main fabrics were cotton, flax, linen, and wool. You could try using distressed Egyptian Cotton as your liner and linen/linen lookalike for the outside of the hood. If anything, play around in the material shop with how things overlay with one another to see how you like them. These robes are not cheap to reproduce.

I have had some success with doing a 3 layer muslin and heavy we've linnen for the outer surcoat that I am going to us on hood #4 it seems to give it the weight I want and still have that distressed look to the outside of the garment. One of my Rennie friends jokes about it saying "though shalt not mix fabrics in garb!"

Damn anon. I'm not even a fan of that franchise, but I am seriously rooting for you. I love to see people really give it their all. I know your results will be fantastic.

It reminds me of this amazing Mello (death note ) cosplayer from years ago on DA. She actually made the cost from leather and everything was hand dyed or something, it was beautiful.

just looks like a linen basketweave, i have some fabric exactly like it right now but it's really awful to work with for a number of reasons, mostly because any unfused pieces will grow in size from even careful handling.

they already had needles with eyes in them and from the outside hand seaming and machine seaming looks the same. save the handsewing for finishing.

I commend his effort but they still look like modern clothing and the proportions of many of the parts are just off. At least his Altair looks very off.

>>7238099
Yes, Cuir Bouilli is hardened leather, either using hot water or hot wax. Traditionally you use bee's wax with a low melting temperature, I use paraffin because I have a near infinite supply of old candles, it doesn't melt and deform in the southern heat and makes the hardened leather completely waterproof. The problem then is that the higher heat required to liquefy an entire pot of wax is much higher. If the leather is too thin when you put it into the wax it will cook and shrivel up ruining the piece. I normally deal with much thicker leather which can take the heat than the stuff I first used with the bracers. I wish I had a picture of the failed first attempt but i threw it out and started on another part of the costume instead.

In the past I have made Fighting armor out of hardened leather in this way. When it first comes out of the wax you can mold it in any shape then allow it to cool and it will remain that way. You can create complex curves and all sorts of shapes without cutting and stitching them.

i was talking about the comments re: modern fabric and techniques. tho i'm lucky enough to live close to la's garment district which is dripping with cool fabrics from jobbers (also tons of stupid shit, but whatever)
if you just have joanne's or similar stores availble to you, tbh i wouldn't use that fabric for anything.

might also check premium denim outlet, theyve started carrying other types of workwear derived fabric which will be pretty durable and maybe vaguely historical.

the denim seems nice too, they got stuff from cone, kaihara, etc, pretty cheap (cheaper than joannes shitty chinese denim!!!!)

You know, a natural white denim may just be perfect for that grainy look of the fabric. I am keeping the Muslin tunic though and the surcoat was really easy to make, I think i'll look into that and repurpose it into Garb for someone else.

You must give up part of yourself for the blade.

Just made a glove with a little extra room so I can fold my finger back and keep it hidden.
