I never thought of this but yeah holy crap what if the beast was 12 when he was cursed? There's a whole village less than a day's ride away and they've never heard of a castle or a curse or beast? That doesn't seem legit and I always wondered why unless it'd been several years. If he was enchanted at say...12 and let the castle fall into ruin it'd make a lot more sense. That enchantress is all kinds of wack in that case.

>> No.7220261

>>7220250
the beast was a little kid who didn't want to let a stranger into the fucking castle, so she cursed him for following the stranger danger policy.

There's some great rundown of all the stupid plotholes in the story somewhere out there, like who is the picture of that the beast rips up on the wall... since he was a kid when he was cursed and the picture shows him all grown up.

and what would have even happened if Belle had touched the rose? I mean no one ever said anything would actually happen or whatever

Most Disney stories are full of holes, though, ince they're retellings of much darker fairytales. Also, I wouldn't count on realism considering there's a cast of singing and dancing table settings.

I forgot where I read or heard it from but the line that implies the Beast was cursed at a young age, "Ten years we've been rusting, needing so much more than dusting needing exercise, a chance to use our skills." was actually a mistake and isn't canon. You have two options. You can buy some clear shows (sometimes called Cinderella shoes) and you can either cut the shape out with a craft knife and then use the invisible shoe strap elastics that go over the bridge of the foot and under the shoe to help hold them on.

Or buy the same shoes and paint the design on on a blue crystal or 3D paint. The rest should be easier enough to photoshop out.

Good luck anon

In the story about the prince it says the last petal would fall before the prince's 21st birthday. And since the castle is in such disrepair, plus the townspeople not, yknow, talking about their missing prince (and indeed acting as if the castle is ancient and haunted) implies its been some time since the prince was cursed. Honestly it'd make far more sense if it had been a hubdred year curse but since its clearly said 21st birthday, you have to assume it took place sometime within the last 10-15 at the max.

I guess 'm thinking more along the line of the improbability of finding a bodice in the same cut and same style and everything-- just almost identical to the one she was wearing but with sleeves-- in the shop-- of course it also magically had just one winter outfit that fit her perfectly, too, so I don't know, it just irks me. At first the little folded parcel she picked up with just a skirt and a cape so I figure it didn't include the bodice and she just put it on with her bodice, but then I see stills where she's got different sleeves.
I want to do the coronation gown and the cold weather clothes, and I don't really want to make the same bodice twice so I have to commit to one, but I'm not sure which I like more, and it's irksome because it's... pretty much essentially the same bodice with minor modifications.

This, seriously whoever wrote up those "plotholes" must have no goddamn imagination.

>the beast was a little kid who didn't want to let a stranger into the fucking castle, so she cursed him for following the stranger danger policy.

The ripped painting is obviously of Prince Adam as a young man, and the stained glass window in the opening depicts him as a young man, not a child.

Even if you don't consider that in "Be Our Guest" Lumiere's line "Ten years we've been rusting" is an exaggeration/a mistake, one could easily imagine that maybe the curse caused time to pass more slowly for the inhabitants within the castle, while time passed normally outside it. Thusly, the inhabitants of the castle would have aged at a slower pace despite having watched 10 years pass them by.

This could also explain why Chip doesn't look more than 5-6 years old at the most at the end of the story, and why the dog/footstool hasn't died.

Going off this theory, you could estimate that Prince Adam was probably in his teens when the enchantress cursed him, which in their time would mean he was considered to be an adult.

>what would have even happened if Belle had touched the rose? I mean no one ever said anything would actually happen or whatever

Even if it was an enchanted rose, it doesn't mean it would be impossible to have it destroyed by physical means. If my only chance of freedom was tied to a flower I'd be goddamn protective of it too.

>There's a whole village less than a day's ride away and they've never heard of a castle or a curse or beast?

Presumably part of the spell involved causing the people in the area to forget that there was a castle/family there, and also a compulsion to keep people from wandering close to the area, except for young women who were qualified to break the curse.

C'mon people, there is MAGIC involved here.

Just watched Frozen and I'm dying to cosplay Elsa's ice dress, like everyone else. Anybody know what sort of technique I can use to make her cape? It looks like a shimmery tulle netting, with snowflake patterns on it. I've seen similar stuff on ice-skater outfits, and can't think of any way to do it other than hand sewing sequins (which will be hell). Gonna dump a few concept pictures, nothing out yet that I can get high quality screenshots from but I plan on following the film design.

idk what to call the fabric, but the really light transparent one, right? shit i know what it's could ugh nvm

Try sewing the cape, and then get some snowflake stencils. I know small ones exist, but you'd probably have to make a couple big ones too.

Then get some glitter fabric paint and go to town.

Would organza work? From what I know, it's both shimmery and sheer, and might be perfect imo, and then you can stencil snowflakes onto it, or something.

It's probably chiffon, organza, or organdy.

>> No.7233990

Elsa's cape is very very translucent and for the most part seems to shimmer royal blue. Or at least electric, darker than what most of the 'I-must-be-first' cosplayers have gone for.

Chiffon is very floaty, it drapes beautifully, it is, however, when of a nice quality, not actually that transparent. It's quote obviously there. If you want something really thin you're going to have to go for a really cheap chiffon (there's a bonus right there)

Organzas and organdi tend to be a bit stiffer, they won't drape as nicely. They do however come much more translucent than chiffon as a general rule. Again, the cheaper you buy, the more translucent you're going to get.

Avoid tulles and dress nets. Primarily these are bulking tutu and petticoat fabrics. Not only will it irritate the skin up top but it won't drape, you're better off with a chiffon or organza.

You can get per-glittered fabrics which vary in price and coverage. Other anons have mentioned snowflake organzas. You can get them this time of year, primarily they are going to come in white or silvers. However, the glitter design tends to be only on one side. Being man made (I'm pretty they're man made) these organzas aren't dyable and would likely ruin the snowflake effects if you tried. You can however get spray on fabric paint. You could experiment with spraying the back blue. This won't interfere with the per-adhered glitter snowflakes.

On the subject of painting, this applies to the bottom of Elsa's coronation dress and to her Frozen dress (arguably this could be lighting but I know others have observed a gradient to her dress) stick to fabric paint. If you use other spray paints designed for wood or plastic surfaces the fabric will harden and go crispy. If this was just a skirt draped over a hoop skirt then this wouldn't be an issue but for the cape and the dress, if you want to maintain that floaty quality stick to fabric paint.

For adding the snowflake effects you have options but they are constrained by time, money and effect.

The most glorious, but most time consuming and easily the most expensive, way to do Elsa's Frozen cape would be individually placed crystals and sequins, either sewn on or using fabric glue. The hardest part would actually be adhering to a template. My best advice would be to make a template for the area and cut out the shapes you want to crystalise. Then, rather than using the shape you'll be crystalising, use the negative. Pin both template and chiffon down to something plastic (like supermarket bags) that will peal away easily from the glue. Do not do this with hot glue as it will melt the plastic. Then settle yourself in for the long hall.

A faster way, but one where I can't guarantee the outcome involves spray mount and glitter. I talked a little bit about the affect of using non fabric intended paints on fabric. I have no idea what using spray mount (spray on glue) will do to the drape of the fabric. One can argue that Elsa's cape does have a jilting quality to the way it moves in the film when she's fleeing so a little stiffness might not actually be so bad.
Once again this method involves making a template, preferably out of something stiff like card. And again you'll be using the negative. Spray the spray mount and then throw the glitter and it should leave glitter shapes. Be careful what you spray onto, spray mount is sticky and it will go through organza or chiffon very easily and stick it to whatever is underneath. The best way to deal with this I think would be to pull the cape taught and suspend it slightly above whatever you're spraying over (grass, newspaper, plastic sheeting) if possible. You'll need it horizontal in order to scatter the glitter. You could then use a dry paint brush to help spread the glitter and then shake off the excess. This is not a tried and tested method on my part.

>>7234012
Another option would be to adhere a glittery fabric to the chiffon/organza base cape. You could cut the shapes and use various methods (fray check, non fraying fabrics etc) to finish the edges. Then use fabric glue or bonda-web (also called wonda web or wonder web; a mesh with heat activated glue both sides, placed between two layers of fabric and gently ironed to adhere two layers of fabric together) or even sew one onto the other by hand or by machine.

If anyone has any other specific questions or would like suggestions if you're struggling with part of a Disney costume let me know and I'll help if I can.

Good luck to anyone making any of these beautiful costumes.

Best I can suggest anon is to make a reversible bodice. You could choose to omit the sleeves and hide the lack of them under the cape for the winter outfit. You could them use gold and olive to rim the corresponding sides and do the two different lots of embroidery.

However to be 100% accurate you would need to make two seperate bodices.

>the shop
Unless they actually feature a shop in the movie (I haven't seen it yet), its kind of really really unlikely anyone would be buying clothes in a shop at that time period. Those with wealth would have a seamstress come to their home to measure and fit them and bring fabric samples to choose from. Everyone else would make their own clothing from homespun fabric. Its possible that Anna particularly liked the cut of the bodice and either made or had someone make her a second of the same cut, but of more practical fabric, and had it embroidered with a similar pattern.

Short of waiting on the DVD it's going to be really difficult to make a 100% accurate Elsa. None of the promo artwork matches the final renders. For example, on her arms in the promo artwork she has two snowflakes, one above her elbow and one below, in the film, she has just the one on her elbow and the 4 (not 3) lines of big and little sparkles up near the shoulder.

My advice to Elsa's looking for accuracy would be to have a removable cape that you can make more accurate later. Or just go for generic sparkles and add snowflake shapes and effects in photoshop.
