I remember when the only places that shipped overseas were Meta and Kazuko Ogawa....also instead of classifying everything as something (dolly/fairy/lolita/mori/otome) it was either "EGL" or "Fruits" (not that that's really any better..)

I was looking through the scans of GosuRori volume #2 (it's around 2004-2005 if I'm not mistaken) and thought that as well. Some of the outfits looked tacky and gaudy to me. I think there are several reasons:

1) models appear to be non-professional, just regular people who are into the fashion, no wonder they look somewhat awkward and less polished then magazine models these days

2) clothes were badly fitted and proportions looked somewhat off - again, it just looks unprofessional, like it was done by beginner seamstress, and whoever did the photoshoot didn't even bother to pin the clothes so they would look better on models

3) Makeup and hair look old-fashioned - both from lolita and normalfag fashion point of view. No soft curls, no wigs, just that typical spikey 90s hair and brown lipstick.

That said, I still love me some oldschool. I have a couple of oldschool pieces and I would like to coordinate them in a modern way.
