Japan hates drawing real noses on their characters. Let alone defining facial features outside of eyes (which is to only make expression easier). Lets not pretend this isn't a fact. This is why they use conventions such as hair color and eye color A LOT to separate character appearances.

Satsuki doesn't have a "man face". She has a sharp head contour and thick eyebrows. Those are her defining traits of her face and a lot more than that is needed to portray "man face". The typical borderline nonexistent nose and papercut thin lips cartoon character traits seen in anime all the damn time are still there. Nothing about her appearance reads "man" unless you have a mental disorder. Doesn't help that most anime males could pass for chicks anyway if you gave them tits in the first place thanks to anime's no nose-no lips syndrome.

Most of the faces used in anime are androgynous (my ultimate point) due to stylization and simplification. That by nature means her face isn't a man-face but a gender ambiguous one (ie like most anime faces), meaning it's the wild card when it comes to the design of most anime characters (Satsuki icluded). I'm simply saying anyone who considers Satsuki as manly in appearance need to recheck what they know about masculine features and feminine features. There is a full range of feminine features when it comes to round and sharp faces. Sharp faces with narrow jawlines are where men and women meet the most and lead to androgyny. On the other ends of the spectrum though, women have round faces while men's are more square like with defined contours.

Those square like contours are used more so in Gamagoori's and Tsumugu's facial structure thus giving them a CLEAR manly quality. Satsuki doesn't have this at nearly the degree they do, if at all. She falls into the androgynous range. Sharp face, narrow jawline.

But like I said, at the end of the day it doesn't mean shit since they aren't real and are simply fictional characters. People are going to cosplay whatever the hell they want.

This is really one of few cosplays where accurate body size does matter. You need more boob than that to get the proper round, slightly squished underboob shape.

Actually, this costume would be an excellent application for some of the heavier duty boob tape/breast-lift tape. The usual problem with the stuff is that it looks like a slug jizzed on your breasts, BUT, since the goal is underboob the tape would be hidden by the outfit.

You can use a wig for the hair, but it would definitely be pretty involved and obviously wouldn't look as good as actually shaving, but whatever. You'd probably have to use a lacefront wig as a base, then frankenstein either another wig or some wefts/extensions into it Make sure the black part, or your base wig, is cut pretty short- you obviously won't be able to get that shaved look but you'll be able to fake the two-tone pretty well.

Black. I think we had this discussion in one of these threads already, but animation generally uses dark/navy blue in place of black. I think for Studio Trigger/Gainax in particular, the dark blue works better for their color palettes than a straight up black.

Either black or dark blue/blue-black would be fine. I think what's more important is that you match it with the uniform/armor.

I've considered it, but I don't want to cosplay characters purely for the design. Plus I feel like her mouth is one of her key features. I have a very narrow mouth; it just wouldn't look good.
