I have an easy question. I'm trying to buy a pair of generic boots that I can use for my simpler costumes, but also wear casually. Do you think either of these are too feminine for crossplay or could I make them work? I know some men's boots have similar designs, but I'm leery.

Does anyone have a fabric suggestion for Morgiana? I feel like this should be the easiest thing in the world, but I don't think basic cottons will give me the fullness of her skirt (it always looks really voluminous), but I can't use anything nice like peachskin because it wouldn't fit

A hoop would give it a completely different shape. Don't do that. There is no reason not to have a petticoat. No one will be able to see it unless you're take super low angle photos. Even then, why does it matter if they see it? Most anime clothes are held on/up by magic, which unfortunately we don't have access to. It's not supposed to be ruffle-y though and hoop skirts are more for A-line things while Morgiana's skirt/dress is more of a bell shape. (If you use a hoop without a petti it will look like poop. Google Anemone cosplays to see what putting a hoop at the bottom of a skirt will do.)

I cosplayed her dancer outfit. At all the cons I went to, it seemed that they just used cotton. To be completely honest, it'll be difficult getting the poof without a petti unless you use a crazy thick fabric. Every Mor I've seen hasn't had the poof, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're determined to get it, id just sew in some wire to the bottom hem. If you're going for the slave look, I saw someone also use muslin.

Opps, picture.

Anyway, I'm working with an atypical hoop skirt right now, so mabye I just have hoop on the brain, and like I said, I'm not familiar with the character. But I think it would be doable, the biggest concern being the hoops showing through the skirt layer.

But you would nee a petti anyway to cover the hoops, and the shape is achievable with just a petti, so why not go the simpler route? The skirt is mid thigh length at its longest in reference, so a hoop skirt might be too much. I dunno.

I think it would at least reduce the amount of layers underneath the skirt, if the poster was concerned about too fluffy of a look underneath the skirt. It is somewhat much though, it could definitely be achieved with a full petti, my only thinking is if the person didn't want it, or is just generally concerned about the petticoat showing up in some kind of photos, a hoop + thin petti underneath would clear up the around-the-legs area.

But yeah, especially if you already have a petti for lolita etc or something, way easier.

>>7192071

Horsehair braid definitely poofs up the skirt, I was thinking of that too, but it's more of a wavy poof, it won't keep the right shape, I believe. Too ruffly.

Another JoJo anon here-- I'm cosplaying Yasuho from JoJolion pretty soon. I have the wig already, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make her round hair accessories.

I've considered using plastic Christmas ornaments or something similar and drilling some holes into them, but then I'm stuck on how to keep them attached to the hair after threading the hair through. I also don't want the pieces to be so heavy that they weigh down the wig a lot, so I'd prefer not to use Sculpey or similar things like that.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

First off, you're an amazing person for cosplaying Yashuo and I hope you post pics of the finished product. Secondly, I would suggest maybe using some sort of large spherical hair clip placed into the braiding. You would be able to clip it in in a manner where it looks like it covers the hair and it wouldn't add any extra weight like Sculpy or some shit.
That's all I got for ideas, maybe it leads you in the right direction?

My boyfriend is an industrial designer and works with this stuff all the time. He taught me how to make "sculptures" with it. (and by sculpture, I mean any kind of cosplay prop)

First you use spray adhesive to layer the foam together to the thickness you need.
Then use any kind of carving tool to get the shape desired. Sand paper it down until it is somewhat smooth, and cover in joint compound (at least an 1/8" thick). And then sand it down until it is completely smooth.

I made a Princess Mononoke mask using this method. It worked excellently and gave beautiful results.

Well i havent done much with pink foam, so others probably have a better idea than me, but ive found the most success by covering whatever ive made with several brushed on layers of latex paint, then giving it a coat of fiberglass resin. After that you can bondo and sand it, then paint. I used this method for the body of this rifle and (while wood probably wouldve been a better chioce looking back) it came out pretty well. As far as tools go, a rasp and file are incredibly useful, as are a coping saw, a mouse sander, and a few sharp knives. Also, be careful when trying to glue foam to things, because hot glue can burn through it, and the chemicals in superglue will melt it. The best thing to do is use the foamboard adhesive that you squeeze out of a caulking tube, you can usually find it on a rack right next to wherever you bought the foam. What do you plan on making with it by the way?

Fabric seems to come out splotchy if it's touching anything when you apply the dye (I learned this the fail-way trying to silk-paint a kimono: apparently it's supposed to get stretched in a frame). Try safety pinning the skirt petal to a hanger or something and applying the dye while it's hanging.
- Oxyclean might strip the ones that are too dark to an acceptable color
- dampen the fabric before you apply the dye: test on scraps. If it's soaking wet the dye will make drips, if it's too dry it won't gradiate nicely
- apply the dye with a brush instead of a spray bottle
- use a less concentrated dye and stir it constantly during use

Use plastidip. Gesso won't get smooth enough and you maybe have still to sand it (and then it can get cracks). Several layers of plastidip however become like a layer of protective and clean rubber. Just make sure to mix the plastidip with 50% water so the foam can absorm the mix and become much more sturdy then. You would need then around 10 layers, but the more you apply the better.

Here are some ways to tell that the fabric isn't so good:

-- It's very wrinkly on the bolt/appears to wrinkle easily
-- It's thin/flimsy/transparent
-- It drapes crappily (this is hard to describe, but sort of drape it over your arm and see how it hangs, also just hold it up and see how it falls to the ground)
-- It looks really shiny in photos (if you have a camera with a flash, bring it and take a picture and see how it photographs). Satin should have some sheen, but it looks really cheap and bad when it's super shiny.

If you're at Joann's you should be OK with their "bridal satin," I think.

Yeeeah just keep your normal boobs sans binding. No sense in making yourself flat and then stuffing your shirt.

The one you start out with is just referred to as a 'felt hat.' It'd probably be difficult to find one to buy in that specific shape, outside of cosplay specific stores, and then they might look pretty cheap. Another option would be to commission one.

I wouldn't use a boater hat, since boaters are usually made from a straw material, and simply painting one pink wouldn't look too great, although the game does have two actual boater hats. You could opt for the one with a red ribbon around it; it'd still be accurate, but not as big as the original hat.

Hot glue's fine, but you're gonna have to put it all along the length of the wood so that it'll stick to the entire length of the blade. For the sake of smoothness, I'd go with fiberglass though. You can probably just use electric tape for the handle details there, though

A fabric like that does not exist afaik. But a trick does. Generally a simmilar effect can be achieved with any black fabric you can partially see trough, depends on how your mask looks.

What helps is painting your faces, or at least everything around the eyes black. Simmilar way 1 way mirrors work. Okay, opinions please.

I'm doing a Fem!Kurogane cosplay in January, and I'm trying to figure out what to do about headwear.

I'll be dying my hair black (temporarily) and pulling into a ponytail (practical hairdo for a warrior). However, Kuro-tan has this faceplate thing. I don't particularly want to take that on, because it'll look stupid if I make it. So instead I was planning on doing something like Souma's headband nonsense. (my outfit is basically an adaptation of Souma's outfit, altered to be more Kuroganeish.)

I was thinking just a red headband, having my bags sticking out over the top, and putting the moon bit in the center. What do y'all think?
The overall cosplay is pic shown, then red tights (possibly with black fishnets over top, not sure on that yet) and plain black lace up combat-style boots, that come to about mid-calf. I'm still working on the wrist cuffs / bracers, I'm not entirely sure how to go about making those. I would think they're supposed to be more like armor, but at the same time, it'd be easier to just make them out of fabric.

inb4 fem cosplay shitposting.

Other concrit is also welcome. It's the first cosplay that I'm making myself, so I really want it to be good.

Also, yes, I know the belt is too high. I accidentally made it too small, I have to redo it.

Honestly, I'd look in a lingerie shop. They make legit garter belts, and you'll most likely be able to find one that looks how you want it to.

Alternately, check out bridal shops, or with a bit of digging, you could find a decent one on ebay. I assume you want one with the little clips instead of that strange loopy rubber bit, right?

Alternately, you could find clips and just make the garters yourself, then buy a cheapo belt with removable straps and replace them with your own. You'd really only have to sew some elastic onto the clips.

Sew some armature wire into the fabric, that way you can shape them how you want, and they won't move.

I'd shape the wire, then use a stretchy fabric. Cut the fabric to be exactly the size of the wire, sew it, leaving a small gap. Then put the wire inside, and reshape it how you need it. It'll stay abd look super cute.

If you want it thicker, add some quilt batting in the middle.

Those also stabbed into my head and probably didn't help.

I am going to test dye it though, to make sure it looks okay.

The non-adjustable netting wigs actually work well for me, but the only wigs that have that are shitty and way too thin, and are really hard to salvage. I have a black one here that I soaked in fabric softener for two weeks, and it's still shiny as fuck.

Finishing the boning and lining for my bodice piece and am now moving on to the skirt. Every rendition I've seen thus far has had sort of a sad droopy skirt that seems to scream "kill meeee" very softly.

My first instinct is to use a 150" hoop skirt and simply extract the front horizontal wiring and petticoat paneling. I was going to modify and weld some support and vertical wiring to hold the shape, and add large amount of tulle between the red lining, hoop petticoat, and over-skirt.

My question is do you think that will be enough to keep the shape puffy enough to make it difficult to get through doors?

The second option would be a modified bustle.

One thing I'd advise is lining the cloak on the inside with red. Satin if you can get your hands on it. It seems to follow the mish-mash of costumes better.

Can I ask for a bit of help?

I'm trying to do a cosplay of Sonnia Cridd for the first time MCM expo comes to my country. It'll be my first proper cosplay, but moving swiftly onwards.

Picture of the lady in question is here. >>7190856

The cuffs on the coat are my current problem. I know that they'll need to be seperate, but I can't figure out what they're made from. Leather? Metal (Painted effect IRL)? Starched cloth? Perhaps a different pair of eyes can spot it.

Any advice for later on in the costume would be wonderful too. I currently have the coat and the wig finished.

Okay, so I'm doing Cerebella from Skullgirls. I've got bootcovers that slip over my boots. Most of the construction is done(I still need to add the diamonds on one and hem the top) and I'm wondering what to use on the bottom to prevent slipping. Should I just get some anti-slip/non skid shoe pads and glue them on the bottom of the shoe covers? They're readily available and not terribly expensive.

Also second question. I'm doing an alternate color palette. The one that's based off Harley Quinn so she has white body paint. I'm planning to attach my boot covers to some tights/leggings so I don't have to worry about painting my legs. But I'm wondering, I haven't done full face paint in years, so I'm not sure where I should contour with the clown white makeup since flat white looks really bad on me.

I want to cosplay sakura but I have no idea what to do for this wig.

First of all, she has those weird long strands coming out of the bottom, so I can't just alter a bob.

Second of all, theres also that M shape curve on top of her bangs. I have never seen a good cosplay with her hair like that, so I'm thinking of just having it laid flat.

Should I just look for a pre-styled wig on taobao? And if the pre-styled wig has that M, could i just comb it down?

P.S. I don't know shit about wigs, styling, or reputable stores.

So, it was recommended that I could do this entirely out of eva foam if I wanted. A friend suggested yoga mats? But I feel like it might not be sturdy enough. I've been looking at a few different things I could use to harden it up, Plastidip, Styrospray some others as well.

Is there any particular one you'd advise or anything else you'd recommend? Don't really want to use fibreglass/resin because I'm a pussy.

Also, I have an undercut already. Should I dye my own hair or run with half a wig or something (might be hard to keep in place)?

For the gauntlets I've figured out roughly how the puppetry will work, thinking pvc pipe for the construction (if anyone has any better suggestions do say). Not sure about what to use for the "tendons". The guide I saw reccommended elastic but I'm not sure if it would hold up well enough at this scale. Fursuiter here

There aren't many brands of unnatural colored faux fur out there. The line that suit makers use the most often is called "Luxury Shag." It looks... OK. http://www.fabricempire.com/shaggy-faux-fur-fabric.aspx Lots of websites sell it, but this is one example. (Distinctive Fabric and Fursuitsupplies.com are a couple other retailers) If you look up the company "Anthrowear" you can see these furs when used for tails. Other sites for faux fur you should check out are imstuffedfur.com or mendels.com. ALWAYS ORDER SWATCHES. EVERY TIME. Avoid "mongolian" fur because it's stringy and terrible.

The top and bottom pictures of the left are just photos of the fabric taken in bright and dimmer light.
Pictures in the middle are what I want, dim and slightly brighter light.
And the image on the very right is a picture of a fabric I'm considering getting if there's nothing I can do with the darker fabric I have.

I want to do the chainmail legs but I'm not sure how to go about it. If I go with regular pants the chances of them falling down are pretty big. I think I wanna go grab some painters coveralls or some painters overalls, and use that as a base for the costume.

I am not concerned about the price, rather the style for my question. I have made progress on my Jack Skellington cosplay and am down to the final few problems for the.... forgive the pun... skeletal structure. Judging by proportions, I need to have 40" stilts. I've looked at drywall stilts and can't stand the unsightly bar on the side of the leg, as pictured. Does anyone have a link to stilts that would not cause problems with a shoe cover on the base without bars on the sides of the legs? I like the added stability of two pads on the base, and I've already looked at air-trekkers/jumping stilts.

I would need to be able to bend down a little for pictures and getting through doorways. That will be practice on my part, but I plan to bring quite a show to cons with this.

Text is a little long, sorry.

So I'm going to be cosplaying both Satsuki from Kill la Kill and Tenshi (Kanade) from Angel Beats. I bought a super long silver wig a while ago and was hoping to dye it dark blue-black for Satsuki but apparently the fibers in this wig don't take up dye too well and I got pic related as a result.

The question is: Do I sew in the periwinkle wefts I bought (held up next to wig in the picture), cut off several inches, and use this wig for Kanade? Or do I get FW acrylic ink and try to get this wig to the color I want for Satsuki? The only thing I'm worried about with the FW ink is that it might rub off onto my clothes, since she wears white.

it is very difficult to get a color as dark as Satsuki's by dying. You'll be better off just buying a dark wig.

Probably really dumb on my part, but I'll post it anyway. So I commissioned a costume back in June for a Con in August. After weeks of little to no communication, the con date is rising and commissioner is nowhere to be found. They email back two weeks after the con saying that they had a lot of stuff happen to them and that they'll mail it out whenever they can. That's fine, shit happens so I just wait for the next email.

Which doesn't come, so beginning of October, where I just come out and ask what happened. They email back again saying they'll sent it by the end of the month and they've just been busy. And I haven't heard from them since.

So, what should I do from here? Just keep waiting or am I being really naive about this whole thing? Or am I being kind of a jerk for being so impatient?

Ask for picture proof that the commission is done/nearly done. If they balk or get defensive, you're probably getting scammed.

Quick question on wigs:
So my girlfriend decided to cosplay the elf from dragons crown (pic related). We have no idea about wigs. Are they easy to braid? Is there a special type made for braiding? If need be, would a hair stylist laugh us out of the shop if we ask her to style it right? We are both shit at wig styling (I usually have armors and masks, so I never took the time to learn.).
If anyone has a suggestion or link to anything, also appreciated. I cant spot quality in this field.

I dont like clubs (unless im just getting tail, kinda rare for me), and bars are a shitshow. Where do the nerdy girls hide?

I already missed my south texas small city con, so im shit out of luck there, so, any help would be appreciated.

In return, in true /k/ommando fashion, i will answer any firearm or gun related questions.

Thanks in advance, and a thousand pardons to those i offend with my faggotry.

I'm theorycrafting on ways to maybe pull of a Skeleton King cosplay.

Naturally just getting a cheap, typical skeleton costume from a Halloween shop and then armoring it and stuff could work. However, I want to try and make it better than that.

Of course I'm not going to be able to get the full skeleton effect of seeing through the bones and stuff, but would it be kind of unnecessary to build an "exoskeleton" if you will to put around me? Say, get a black zentai suit, and attach big bones to me to capture a bony effect? Especially with the torso, I'd just make a big chest-piece of bones like his, then wear it like normal armor. That way at certain angles people can "see through" it, per se

Sorry if I'm explaining this like shit, I'm not totally sure how to tell it. Basically any input on doing a good skeleton costume in general would be nice.

>> No.7209075

Black Zentai with bones made out of foam would probably work pretty well.

Not really much else you could do I think. Don't make it too oversize though, pit won\t look very good.

Alright, thanks.

Any ideas for the skull? It's a pretty unique skull, I'm not sure I want to BS it with a store-bought mask. I can only think of progressively sculpting it out of like expanding foam or drywall like a normal helmet? It'd work but I feel it'd be tedious.

Perhaps there is a simpler method? Anybody

I'm currently working on Suigintou and I'd need some help regarding her underskirt. I have very little experience with underskirts and I'm now wondering if I should buy a regular petti or go for a short hoop skirt. I'm not sure if a petti can give enough support because the fabric I bought for the blue dress is kind of heavy, but I'm afraid that a hoop skirt would be too stiff and look just bad. Can anyone with more experience with these things give any advice?

Also, suggestions for shops that ship to Europe are highly appreciated.

There's inconsistency here and there(mostly in the old one), but it's typically black(especially in the new series)

So really as long as it's a very very dark blue/indigo you're fine, but I've seen people who use too light of a colour and it looks really off.

But yeah hoop+petti

Let's say there's a character based on history, but it's rather inaccurate in design. It's easier on the details and not as strict as the historical equivalent - at all. If you have a Hobby Lobby, look there. They should have resin and dyes for it. The brand I got (and the only one my local store carried) was Alumilite. The resin was crappy, but the dye worked wonderfully. It was also extremely potent. Image related is the result of using literally half a drop of dye to color solid gems the size of a large marble, which I had to skim off the tip of the bottle using a toothpick. Anything more and it got oversaturated.

Also, random protip: if you can't get your gems to shine up like you want, hit them with aerosol clearcoat after you polish them, the same kind you find with the spraypaint at the store. I used enamel rather than acrylic, but it probably doesn't matter. It makes an insane difference in the gems, though. Left and right are with and without clearcoat from more-or-less identical test casts. They're a little rough because I had curing issues with the cheapo resin.
