That's about it. You can definitely take creative liberties and add your own twist to it. I took a leaf from Yaexrae's book and used skull candy molds to make mine "realistic." I felt that the rounded cartoony/stylized skulls looked silly, but I've seen them done well too.

In all seriousness though, most of the characters are either kids or clean shave, so first the hair has to go.

Second, really, just pick a favorite. Homestuck doesn't really have detailed facial designs, so just go with who you like and try to get the costume as accurate as possible.

You'd probably be fine as any of the boys. Can't really tell body type or muscular structure from the pic, so maybe avoid Equius unless your buff.

hey cgl, i'm trying the fabric paint method for just my hands (i know it doesn't stick well to hands but i'd rather have messy looking hands then get paint al over my friends car). I'm just a little paranoid, but it's okay to just completely cover my hands in fabric paint for 24 hours or so? It's okay for my skin, right?

It varies from person to person on opinion, but I personally think you are good as long as you have some actual muscle tone. You don't have to be super ripped, but try to get rid of any excess fat if you can.

The only thing in canon I can think of that really describes his body is ARquiusprite freaking out over how ripped he is, so if you really want to be accurate, you can always get jacked as physically possible.

How does this look? You can't really see the white accents under the eyes but that's because of shitty lighting/shitty cam (And in regards to those, should those be kinda faded like blush, or harder lines? If they should be more defined, how should I go about that?

So I decided to invite my friend to an upcoming con with me since she's never been and all, and she wanted to also cosplay karkat. I was like okay, that's a pretty easy cosplay for your first, go for it. However, it's looking like a bit of a mess, the horns are bad (how do you mess up nubs?) and her shirt is messily painted in metallic silver PUFFY PAINT. Should I say something? How do I do that without being rude? Cause I kinda don't really wanta be seen with her, but I feel like that's really scummy of me, especially since if I'm being honest, my cosplays are only a little better than average.

There's a small subset of the original folks left, but most of those people have stopped going. The new crop is especially young/weeby/annoying, which makes it less and less fun to go to meetups even if some of the people I like are there. It's kind of a vicious cycle, which is a shame.

No offense to the Homestuck fans, but I have to admit this is one fandom I'm really hoping dies down quickly. I'm sure there are many of you who are rational and enjoy your fandom normally, but there are also way too many that are just causing havok at conventions IMHO.

I wouldn't be joking in saying that there were at least several hundred of them at Anime Central this year wandering around in giant packs, clogging hallways. Running around being loud, nearly stabbing people with horned or winged parts of their costumes, etc.

Between this, SAO, and SnK ... way too much of the same fandom representation IMHO.

Because it's a sentimental pic. It's the four kids meeting outside of what could be John's house and embracing after going through so much together.

It shows a care for the characters and series and I like the idea.

As for costumes, sans Dave's shoes and possible wig problems, they look quite good from a distance. They might not be that great up close, but from this range it looks quite nice.

The pic itself could have been quite good, if it wasn't for the cars that sort of disrupt the photo. But, even then, it's still okay.

As for this conversation not belonging on /cgl/, photography is quite important in the cosplay hobby. It shouldn't overtake proper construction, but talking about what makes a photo good and what does not should not be an out of place conversation.

Hell, I've even seen quite a few photography threads just within the past month or so.

My two cents, the John's pants have a gross pattern (pic related, why they made his pants out of patterned fabric, I have no idea) and I don't like the chainmail they put on Dave. Rose is probably the best, but she got the headband color wrong. Overall, this group doesn't thrill me.
