Hi guys, let's talk plugsuits! Specifically showing off the best ones and chatting about how you'd make a good one.

One of the things that bothers me are what appear to be joints around the knees and legs; most costumes paint it on as a line but I don't think it'd just a visual accent. They really appear to be jointed in some way to protect the knees but that goes in contrast to the way we see the suits shrinking (implying they're made of flexible material and not inflexible or 'armored' for want of a better word)

Is there a way to get the best of both worlds? Hit me!

Here's Asuka in 3.0 with some reference... it's hard to know whether to aim for matte or shiny given that the majority of art has such a shiny texture, but we know that matte looks a lot better IRL

Spandex?

I would say spandex yes.

On that note, I'm planning to do plugsuit Asuka next year, and I was going to use wonderflex (or similar) for the chest/upper arm armor pieces and then glue latex over the top to 'blend' them into the rest of the suit. Never worked with armor before, so I gotta ask, is this a horrible idea?

Hmm... That makes me think, do you (or anyone) think it would be possible to make a plug suit using a diving suit as a base? My mother bought me one recently (please don't ask why, I don't know either) so I just have one lying around.
All in all I feel like it wouldn't work, but it's worth asking.

Pretty sure she means modifying the suit she has. And no, it is a terrible idea. There is a reason you want to work flat for as long as possible, and when trying to make that many alterations to something so tight that is already completed, it will just end up looking like a mess.

>> No.7155756

>>7155741
That or building on to it. (Honestly, with my original statement even I wasn't 100% sure what I meant.)

>> No.7155760

>>7155756
Yeah, I don't think it would work not just for the other anon's reasons but mostly because wetsuits have seams in weird places that plug suits don't have.

It isn't spandex per say. It is actually a spacer material (looks way cooler than spandex up close). It doesn't stretch NEARLY as well as spandex, in fact the stuff they used doesn't really stretch at all. Of course the colored parts of the suits do, but the arms were particularly uncomfortable for them to wear, I'm guessing because the black fabric is rather restricting.

>> No.7155847

>>7155760
Yeah I pulled it out (I'm honestly not very familiar with wetsuits, wore one once 10 years ago but that's it.) and the seams are pretty wonky, at least I can rule that option out completely now.

Actually, that does remind me that Vengeance Designs has done something like that before. I noticed they took down their "TEST (Rei)" suit from their catalog, but I do wonder if they'll still do something like that for a custom design.

I'll also mention the "plugsuit-inspired" dress series they have, but that isn't nearly as appealing.

I've seen the Vengeance Designs plugsuits. It might be a cheaper way to go, I'm not to impressed with their test Rei suit actually. Latex seems to be an all or nothing type of thing unless you are doing it yourself and learning how to become better.

>> No.7157584

Well, honestly, I'm not that impressed with TEST (Rei) either, but I'm wondering if it's just because it was made with two unappealing colors- silver, and transparent (don't confuse that with translucent orange of Asuka TEST. COMPLETELY different).

Sample swatches are basically the only way to be sure. You just have to make sure that you order well in advance, however. To make sure that it will arrive in time for whatever project you are working on.
