Why is seakittens-cosplay so desperate to earn the approval of this thread?? She posts her shitty frizzy crimped Junko wig on tumblr, stating that she thinks it looks great, then it gets reposted here and people talk about how much they hate it. Immediately after she restyles it and posts it elsewhere on cgl and her blog lamenting that it wasn't good enough the first time.

I get wanting to improve, but it's really bizarre to be so desperate to impress one whiny thread and not even comment here asking for critique.

Definitely use a petticoat. What I'd really like to see someone do pipe organ/large cartridge pleats, if you google tutorials for them you'll see it just involves hand stitching the top differently and using cartridge pleat tape. Otherwise, just do box pleats but make the pattern pieces wider at the bottom to accomodate poof/flare.

No problem! I really hope you go for the the pipe organ pleats because I love how the look but not many costumes have them apart from historical gowns and such, haha. Anyway for Chihiro you should probably be looking for cupcake or bell shaped petticoats. Most people seem to have success with layering multiple petticoats for the shape they want, so maybe try to grab a solid bell or a-line one to have as a base (try victoriangirldress on eBay or look up petticoat reviews on egl) and then make/add more if you need to.

I've been lurking the DR threads for a while, and even when damn good stuff is posted, someone eventually starts whining. Has there ever been a time when people agreed on something here? I'm starting to think that this fandom has impossibly high standards.

The thing is that there are some people on here who complain just for the sake of complaining, so that the closest you can come to a 'consensus' is that all the complaints are personal preferences/opinions. ie. the person's facial features and expression, photo setting, etc. If no-one can bring up a legitimate accuracy/construction flaw, that's the closest to 'good' we'll ever get.

Your examples of cifera and ceres are pretty much this. If all people can come up with is horseface/thunderthighs/old/shoop then it's a sign there's not much else wrong.

The obsession with this Komaeda is one of the best examples of cgl's double standards. They're pretty, but they have a gray wig and black shoes with no zippers, so the costume itself is barely above mediocre.
