My girlfriend found a NWT AP Lyrical Bunny plush bag in a local mom n' pop toy store. I think she paid like, $10 for it. Looked it up when she came home, and she found out it was worth over $100 secondhand.
As for me, I've found some epic stuff in thrift, secondhand and bargain stores. My best find was an amazing 1970's Gunne Sax dress that I was able to shorten and modify slightly to accommodate a full petticoat underneath. It's perfect for classic, and not a bit frumpy or "old ladyish." I've also found adorable red t-strap heels that I wear with Lolita, some nice blouses that I upcycled a little, and a skirt that I also tailored and added lace to.

If you're on the smaller size, check the kids section. I've found tons of cute kids dresses in sizes 14 and 16. Sometimes I find peter pan collar blouses in a size 14/16 too.
Usually I sift through vintage blouses for cute finds. Typically most of them are much larger than I am (Size 12 & 14 is what I see the most), but occasionally I run into some of the tune of more of a size 4.

>> No.7143058

Not same anon but I'm probably responsible for someone's bjd-in-a-thrift-shop experiences. My grandma "helped" me clean my childhood bedroom when I moved out, and a few of my smaller dolls got mixed in with some Barbies and baby dolls headed to Goodwill. They were cheap non-resin and only one was a true bjd (some custom painted Obitsus and a Hujoo) and my grandma wouldn't tell me where she donated them to so I couldn't retrieve them. I considered it not as bad as it could have been. She also threw out quite a lot of sentimental and valuable jewelry and a lot of papers I needed, like my birth certificate and high school transcripts, and I had to dig through wet sacks of trash to find things after. Grandma believed I was a hoarder (anyone who collects things that arent practical, regardless of how they are stored, is a hoarder to her) and she thought if I knew whwre my stuff was that I'd go and buy everything back.I let it go because, as I said, it could have been way worse than losing a few $30 dolls and I'd rather not upset my grandma immediately before leaving for a sizeable amount of time.

I am so mad, the only "thrift" stores I have ever been to charge almost full price (or often times MORE) for dingy dirty shit with holes and missing buttons, all the shoes will be completely destroyed and unwearable, and if they have a decent accessory or piece of glassware without a chip it will be under a glass case next to the early 2000's cellphones and old mcdonalds toys that they are charging $100+ dollars for.

It is awful, and to make matters worse there will always be a sad looking poor mother and her two little kids picking through the overpriced shit, telling her daughter that she can't have the doll with no clothes and ratty hair (the best doll in the whole store that is not under a piece of glass: $10.75) because they can only afford to get school clothes today. You see this family and you know that they were raised to think they could only afford thrift shop clothing because they were so poor, so they have never walked into a target or walmart or anything like that to look for clothing because it has never occurred to them that the thrift shop is gouging the prices to hell and back. It is enraging, and it makes you feel even worse when there is a little old lady who has obviously immigrated here with her grandchildren and speaks little to no english, is puttering about trying to find something to cook food in and all she can find is a rusted, dented, farberware pan for $15, when just down the street is a Ross with far superior pans for $9-20 for a set, and you can't tell her that because she speaks so little english.

EVERYTIME you see these people. I wish I could think it was just a Santa Barbara thing, but when I lived in Idaho it was 10X worse. Only Savers was any good there. I spent a lot of time in Savers and oh how I miss it.

Oh girl, make a trip down to LA/OC. There a fucking ton of thrift stores around here. Especially in Anaheim/Buena Park. The LA county goodwills tend to be a bit cheaper though then the OC ones.

One of my favorites is the one run by Foster Care Auxiliary. Found the cutest fucking boots for a friend there and only paid $4. They're pretty small store but still have at least a few things, mostly clothing.

>> No.7147591

I used to hit a couple different Goodwills where I grew up and the difference n pricing is amazing. One fairly busy shop on the highway would charge $15 or so for those crappy porcelain dolls and anything vaguely collectible or electronic would be $50, and their clothing section was a mess. Twenty minutes away was a smaller store in a shopping center but they'd have the same stuff for $2-10 dollars and would often have brand new with tags/packaging or damaged-box stuff from local stores. I got a brand new pair of Skullcandy headphones for $12 there, and often picked up Monster High dolls with damaged boxes or stuff loose in the packaging for $5.
