If it's a soft bonnet, you could wash it by hand with cold water and a gentle laundry soap (Woolite, maybe). Make sure it's colorfast first though.

If it's a hard bonnet, the most you can do is spot clean it. I'd use a mix of water and Woolite, dip a clean white cloth in it and dab/wipe whatever parts of the bonnet you're worried about. And then "rinse" by doing the same with just plain water. Then tie the bonnet onto a wig head or something to maintain the right shape while it dries.

I'm looking for some co-ord advice.
Normally I do a more gothic style but I really want to try OTT Sweet with a pastel yellow and power-pink color scheme.

I have a pink wig, yellow and pink lace cuffs, pink ball-joint tights (tacky? maybe, but I love them), yellow bonnet and yellow tea-parties.

Should I get a yellow dress or a yellow JSK and wear a pink blouse underneath?

>> No.7133451

>>7133426
I think sometimes unnatural wigs can be a little overwhelming but they do work sometimes with OTT (I do OTT a lot, but I prefer wearing natural colors or mostly natural with blends/gradients in other colors). I think a pink blouse with some pink colored tights (maybe OTKs with some kind of design on them) might work if you're going OTT. Then, maybe add some smaller bows around your bonnet/headbow in the various colors of your jsk. If you're going OTT, you're gonna want to play up on the accessories. It doesn't have to be as extreme as Decora-Lolita, but I'd definately go with more bracelets than just some wristcuffs. Stick some rings in there too and a necklace or two as well.

Basically, don't go to bible groups. They're cray cray. The normal religious people who are sane probably just go once every Sunday.

That being said, nah I don't think it's shallow. Part of why people go to church is for the social aspect. Nothing to enjoy if you can't talk afterwards and share your beliefs or weekly plans with others. That's why they have pancake breakfasts/lunches/food things after church. I see where you're coming from.
I used to go to church til my parents learned it and its members were pretty bogus (can you guess it was Mormon?)
I wish that I had worn lolita while in church .. it would have been so at home there to wear it. that's why I've been thinking about it.
there is literally no other occasion in this society that wearing lolita, a modestly covered fashion, would be most accepted and most natural to wear. never do i feel natural wearing it at a meetup, or tea party because thats always behind closed doors.. I could even imagine inviting other members into it. I may go back for the social side. I also like to talk about religion, even if just on an objective basis which some people will do with me in the church.
But Mormonism is retarded.

Would this be the place to ask for help and advice about a shady seller?

I pre-ordered and completed the payment plan for a JSK from an indie seller over Facebook. She seemed kind of new, but I hadn't heard of any bad reviews about the company yet.

Anyway, the whole thing was a shit show. Her manufacturer was shifty for the whole process and she finally got the dress to me in August after beginning the process in February.

When the dress got here, it was awful. Just awful construction, awful fit, everything. There was a seam running up the front side of the dress that disrupted the print at the border. And I paid new NWT brand prices for this.

So I'm very upset. I took it to a professional local seamstress to check it out, and she said that it would cost about 60 USD to fix the seam thing, not to mention the straps that are actually just satin ribbon with lots of pull marks from the sewing.

I admit I was kind of a pushover through this. I agreed to send it back to the dress designer to have a "new manufacturer" repair it after she gave me a 25% refund. This was in August.

So far, I haven't received any updates without prompting her for them. This seems ridiculous to me.

All I have to show for it is the bow from the front of the dress. It is seriously worse than the HolleyTeaTime headbow disaster. It's like a tube of broadcloth with a rectangle of broadcloth stuffed inside it with a safety pin on the back.

So has anyone been in a similar situation?

Oh them with the super shitty creepy cute line. She seems legit to the point that she isn't going to run away with your money because she's not just a one off indie brand, she is actually trying, she just has shit taste and no sewing skills so she probably doesn't realize how shitty her manufacture is. I'd just ask for the money back politely but let her know you are so disappointed in the quality (list out all grievances and pictures) that your review would be very negative when posted to the online communities if a refund isn't available. Have to be polite with the threat however or else she'll just talk about how unreasonable and inflexible you were as a customer and how 'you just can't make this kind of customer happy! If it's not one thing it's another!'. Pictures pictures pictures however will be your best defense against any kind of defense she may give and screenshots of all convos for a time line etc

>> No.7135689

I'm glad she isn't going to run away with my money.

The problem with that is she has the dress itself now. Like a retard, I forgot to take pictures of the dress itself before I sent it back to her. I do have the bow, though. I can post pictures of that.

I'll probably ask for a refund tonight, thanks for the advice. I was really looking forward to owning her Sugary Jellies JSK because I thought the print was cute. I just can't handle all these delays.

At this point I'd settle for a 75% refund if she'd let me keep the dress. The fabric it was made out of was acutally kind of nice (except for the broadcloth bow) so the 25% of the money should cover the cost of the fabric.

I understand that she might have gotten fucked over by her manufacturer, but I don't want to be fucked as well.

Does that sound reasonable? Do you think she would do a 75% refund?

With the refund, I would just fix the dress myself. I'm got a few skills and I could probably repair the dress. The biggest problem with the dress is that it was meant to be a babydoll style, but the band above the bust was pinched too tight and the below-the-bust measurement was about 5 inches bigger than the bust measurement itself. The dress had shirring in the back, but it was thin elastic bands rather than elastic cord, so it fit kind of weird with the shirring. When I put it on, the waist was all baggy and it looked like a really weird ETC potato sack style of dress, but it was all lumpy and shit with it's snagged satin ribbon waistband.

I'm kinda getting worked up typing this out, sorry.

If she'd do the 75% refund, I'd be happy. I asked for that back in August when I first got the dress, but she asked for a second chance and a 25% refund.

This. It's stupid to expect to keep an item if you want a refund, most stores do "send it back, we'll pay for postage back to us and refund you" as partial refunds etc. get messy as customers have different expectations of what damage is "worth" in terms of a discount compared to sellers. Sometimes you get a full refund and get to keep the item when it's not exactly as described and more hassle for the seller to get you to return it but that's more of a bonus than anything.

Can anyone help me out here?
So I bought a dress from a girl in late september, shipped out the 26th. Tracking says it arrived on Friday the 4th, but problem! It's not actually there.
>seller provides credible tracking/paypal/etc info, so it's out of her hands
>already talked to roommate, no package
>already checked mailbox (Several times)
>talked to mail center of my building, they said since there was no 'signed for' page on the tracking they weren't responsible for it
>tried to call USPS but couldn't get out of the robot call center loop, that system just tells me it was delivered too
Any suggestions on what to do next? I'm thinking of going in person to USPS tomorrow but there's a lot of locations in my area and I'm not sure if it's better to go to one or the other, or what to say when I actually get there. I'm pretty worried, this is the first time I've had an issue with the mail and the dress is one I've wanted for a long time!

I had a similar problem in the UK, order "arrived" but was signed for by a complete stranger, and didn't include a door number. The person who shipped had proof they shipped to my address so it was the postmen's fault. After about 3 phone calls, my delivery did thankfully arrive to my address, but no explanation ever was given. If you are 100%+ sure the seller has shipped to you, then all you can do is check with neighbours, try and find out if the tracking gives a surname (like mine did) and try and search around (I found someone who had the surname in my local area and tried to contact them, I spoke to neighbours as well as a possible area where my package could have been accidentally delivered to due to misreading). I suggest going to the nearest one and start from there?

I think you need decide what sort of look you want to go for - obviously there are a whole range of styles within lolita, and 'I can pull it off' doesn't mean 'I would like to wear this outfit'. I too can pull off sweet lolita, but I feel super uncomfortable in tea-parties, plastic jewellery and pastels and would much rather be wearing platform boots, a choker, and dark velvets. $170 can get you a full outfit, but if you don't love it or want to wear it you're essentially pissing it into the wind.

>>7139300

I own the daily A-line and I don't think that photo looks that deflated from it's "usual" poof, it really just is a daily petticoat and it is only one layer so doesn't have the volume to stay super poofy. You have no sewing experience, so you already answered the question about trying it yourself. Price varies according to dressmaker/seamstress, so the best bet is to take it to someone and ask for a quote on it. You may find that the coat fits very oddly without the shoulder pads as well as the shape of shoulder pads is slightly different from your actual shoulders, so it may need additional alterations. If that requires things like changing the sleeves or taking the whole shoulder in this could make it quite an expensive alteration - like over $50 depending on the way it's constructed.

>>7139384
Those who say CP will never deflate have obviously never worn them under anything heavier than light cotton, and are also probably referring to the multi-layered A-line petti and the bell shaped one rather than the daily A-line. I remember seeing a daily_lolita entry with the bell shaped petti under Drosselmyer's Wonderbox and it looked like really minimal poof, and this also happens to me with velvets. It depends on the specific website but
A normally means it is either new or hardly worn, there is absolutely nothing wrong.
B normally means there is some signs of wear minor things like wrinkles perhaps but nothing is missing, there is no dirt.
C normally means there is obvious signs of wear, it may have dirt or may be missing an accesory.

It really depends on the website specifically, and on some of the sites they have an explanation of the rating for that particular item.

If you want to know about a specific website please don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck :)

It's commonsensical really.
A means the condition is practically mint if not looking like it was just bought.
B means good condition with minimal flaws.
C can mean average to below average condition with significantly more flaws such as noticeable stains. That's why even if a rare print has this grade it still takes awhile to sell because then the question is if it's worth the money to buy what is essentially damaged goods.

I used to be pretty close to these measurements (98cm bust and 39cm shoulders), I wouldn't say you can't fit into brand coats as they're usually made bigger to fit someone with clothes on -- but they're really uncomfortable. For one thing, even if your bust fits, the shoulder section is going to be too tight, and you have to wear really thin clothes as they were made for a smaller person wearing thick clothes.

Personally I'd go with either taobao (Infanta has a lot of nice coats) or fanplus friend.

As for what to look for, look for reviews, and if possible, ask the reviewer about their own weather -- winter differs widely in countries, so what's warm enough for one country might be thin for another.

I am so pissed at Japonica right now. I just ended an order with them and was awaiting the final invoice. In the order form they ask what shipping you would like and for both items I selected "registered post". I also emailed them saying I want this type of shipping, too. I received the invoice yesterday and it was more than I thought it would be but I paid it anyway. Then I saw in the email they had written what each charge was for, and they had charged me 4000 yen for EMS. The items only cost 5000 yen so I didn't want EMS! I emailed them saying that I paid the invoice and confirmed my shipping address, but also said that I didn't want EMS and that I had already told them that so could they please ship with the registered post option? Today, they emailed me saying that my items were shipped with EMS, no comments about registered post. Why do they even have the option of you choosing what shipping you want if they don't even listen when you state that you don't want EMS multiple times?! They've done this before but the orders were more expensive so I didn't mind paying for EMS as much at the time.

TLDR; Japonica give you the option of shipping with registered post on their site but ignore your requests to do so and always charge you for EMS even when you don't want it. Maybe I should change shopping services, they've been annoying me lately.

I'm surprised that the doctor gave you clearance with a 30" waist, but I assume you were keeping healthy in other ways (eating decently/cardiovascular exercise). BMI is just one measure of health, waist circumference is another as it's directly related to abdominal adiposity (i.e. tummy fat) which is related to adverse health outcomes, and according to most protocols it shouldn't be more than ~80cm/31.5" although I think that's based on a Caucasian population. It's also worth noting that "waist" doesn't mean the same as it does at the dressmakers/for lolita - it's NOT the narrowest point on your torso, it's either measured at the iliac crest (top of hip bones) OR the point halfway between your last rib and the iliac crest, so it's likely your 'waist' for the purposes of health risks was bigger than 30".

I'm currently at 35-28-36. At 36-30-38 my weight was around 68, 69kg. I lead a sedentary lifestyle, apparently I eat a lot. Maybe there's some truth to some people's bones being heavier? idk.

>>7141876

Kind of have a similar story, I took a chance and bought Melty Royal Choco in M size (it's unshirred). I thought I keep it for thinspiration, lo and behold, it fits, although the bust is really tight. I'll agree with you the arms look terrible though, gonna try and get down a bit more, maybe do some pushups and see if I can get them to look better.

>>7141883
Don't some of the L size blouses go up to 38cm shoulder widths?

>>7141904
I'm Asian, actually, so I thought I should be even smaller. From what I could tell, I think he based it mostly on the BMI, which was higher than normal but not actually overweight. The 30in waist is dressmaker's measurement.

30in was a confusing waist size for me. It was hard to find clothes that looked good but not impossible. I've been fatter than that and also thinner than that (due to lifestyle changes, not diet). I mentioned earlier I had relatives that thought I would look better thinner, but also some who thought I was developing an unhealthy fixation on my food/weight. So I went to the doctor and asked him about it. I guess he might have interpreted my questions as whether I needed to lose weight to save my life (ie- whether I was morbidly obese), plus he was probably mindful of whether he'd end up encouraging me down some road to aneroxia, so he gave the all-clear since I wasn't actually overweight at all, just a bit heavy.

Also, he knows I like healthy food and swimming, maybe that helped with the diagnosis.

Anon we pretty much have the same measurement's except I'm 5'8. Half of my lolita items are un-shirred, including an old meta op from 2004. I own mainly AATP, Baby Putumayo, H.Naoto and Meta unshirred.
I also have large shoulders, slightly larger than yours and I have had trouble finding blouses as they are either too big or too small. I think I need to try I.W blouses in a size L, I heard they are fantastic.

I'd really like to be 55 kilos though..I actually feel really awful.

I'm not doing too much walking in them. More or less throwing on some shoes to go somewhere really quick and come home. Otherwise I wear trainers most of the time for work or exercise. I just can't be bothered to untie, lace them up etc when I'm running out the door really quick. I wore a pair of flats to work one day eons ago, and it killed me.

>>7141450
Apparently for 5'4" a 26"-31" waist is considered healthy. But I think it would also depend on your frame. frame size, torso, etc. If you're short-torsoed and don't have much distance between your ribs and your hips, you can have a lower body fat percentage, but still have a larger measurement than someone at the same weight and height that is built differently. I think it's just based on the average. 140 is fine for 5'4 as well. I'm the same height and my goal is actually 125-130 considering where I'm at now. But I'll likely end up with your measurements or something close to it when I get there. (Except hips, I'm 10lbs heavier and my hips are 37, I have no ass). I'm a medium frame, but short torso and also just generally wide and broad from the front. Not much room between my ribs and hips. So getting a tiny waist isn't really possible for me.

I'm >>7141876 and that's right, its the arms particularly that spoil it! My perspective from "must fit without a uniboob" trancended into "so you can wear OPs/short sleeves and UTKs more attractively". Though I doubt I want to start curlbro-ing my arms away, though theres the opportunity to finally have them look firmer, any more mass and I'm rippin' sleeves Arnie style

Overall I'm kinda chuffed that theres so many of us piping up with similar measurements. 5'4'' modal lolita height?
(then while we organise ourselves to maybe lose a couple, just for safety since it's pretty much confirmed we're not actually by definition *overweight*, but bordering? it's so awkward. because as you and another have said, the docs do the very thing where they see us, want to say we kinda are heavy, but try not to scare us and just call us healthy. thats my impression of it anyway, i've also gone and asked about it..)

while we're all here perhaps let us all woe on our too-tall-for-most-brand concern while we're at it D;)

Hmm, well strictly speaking your doctor is actually wrong telling you you were "just a bit heavy/not overweight". According to international standards you were overweight at that weight/height whether you use the Asian reference ranges or the Caucasian ones. The WHO guidelines give the cut off for overweight for an Asian population as a BMI of 23.5 - yours was 25.6, so technically overweight in any case.

>>7142012
There's certainly a lot of nice and bad things about being this size. A lot of the flaws you mentioned can be hidden with creative dressing, eg- sports bra for uniboobs, long sleeves for fugly arms, tights instead of UTKs. On the other hand, I feel like I'm so close to my ideal body type -- if I can lose just two or three more kilos that would shave off maybe an inch in most places, and then I could fit into most things without resorting to gimmicks or creative dresssing to look good.

Even the height is like that -- Dream Sky is probably too short for me, but everything else seems to fit me just fine, the skirt might be an inch too short but still acceptable for lolita.

>>7142015

He measured my height and weighed me right in his office, then looked up his own chart. So maybe one explanation is that my numbers are a little off from what he measured.

I think it's more likely what >>7141962 said though, he probably saw that I'm quite heavy, or bordering overweight, but since I wasn't actually obese, he chose to tell me there wasn't a real need to diet, rather than tell me I needed to lose weight and face having to deal with possible aneroxia later. I already told him I wanted to go on a diet, I simply wanted to know if I was at risk of anything since I was doing a ketogenic diet, so he probably figured it was the more harmless advice he could give.

>>7141962
Ah okay, this makes sense. I think most of my fat is in my hips and thighs, so that would explain why I'm heavier but look smaller-sized.

46 cm here, my bust, waist, hips fit unshirred brand comfortably but all my blouses are either offbrand or shirred in the back. I only own one OP, MM, and it is a little tight in the shoulders but luckily there is enough wiggle room elsewhere for it to not be too uncomfortable. Do you have any OPs with a high neckline/back? Curious to know how they fit in the shoulder area.

Also I hate short sleeved blouses with the elastic cuffs. My arms are only 30cm around and they pinch, I can only imagine how uncomfortable they must be if you're bigger there.

Don't feel awful! I DID weigh 57kg and I'm smaller than I was back then in BWH, but my legs and arms aren't the sticks they used to be.

Unshirred, you say? What are the max bust measurements on them? I only own a couple of AP dresses and an IW one.

I love a lot of IW's boleros but their size L is usually 36cm shoulder width and I owned a Baby cardigan that was 35cm and learned my lesson from buying things that are too small from that.

But a 30" waist doesn't mean that you have a BMI of around 25. Some people just have less of a waist definition and thus have larger waists. Even when I weighed 90 pounds a few years ago, I only managed to get my waist down to 26". Was I fat? No, I just don't have a defined waist. My ribcage and everything else is small, though and with a 29 inch waist now, size medium still hangs off me. It's about proportions and how much fat you have on your body. You need to get your head out of your ass.

See this girl here? I believe she said she has a waist of about 30" and she's not fat at all, much less "at risk".

How big is your waist?

Thank you anon, I don't know I've just felt bad about myself for a long time I think but lolita actually makes me feel a bit better, and it's nice to know that my waist measurement is fairly common for lolita. That's surprising that your measurements are actually smaller now than then.

Yes you too can wear unshirred brand ;) The old Meta op is a max bust of 37" I believe, the BTSSB OP has a max bust of 36.5", the AATP jsk is a max bust of 36". The h.naoto cutsew max bust is 38". My I.W dresses have partial shirring.

Oh no that's sad to hear. I haven't tried their boleros or caradigan yet. I feel the same with blouses too, although the I.W M blouses did actually fit just not too comfortably so I think the L blouse might be really good.

I call bullshit. Unless a girl is really tall there is no reason to have a 30" waist if you're in at least decent shape.

I would know. My waist is 28 inches and I have a gut. My lower waist is 33 inches, which is probably the more important measurement here. Its easy to hide under a big fluffy dress, but don't pretend like 30" isn't even at least chubby, because it fucking is. And I'm 5'6", if you're shorter than me and have a 30" waist you are for sure chubby at the very least.
