Not enough to be an attention whore. You gotta make it your hobby to promote yourself, updating your facebook, twitter, etc with regular content, actively trying to get yourself known.

These female cosplayers people know about didnt get known by accident or even by beauty/cosplay merit. They attained it by promotional tenacity and treating themselves and their cosplays like a business.

And really, only women have the princess ego enough to care about that stuff. Especially when little to no money is involved.

Yes, the average male con-goer probably won't take pics of male cosplayers, but the pics that they take aren't the ones female cosplayers show on their cards or websites anyway, so that is a moot point.
All those really good pics of cospalyers are done by photographers who either charge for the photo session, or are good friends with the cosplayer in question.

it is. the most well known female cosplayers only got attention because they showed off a lot of cleavage. there are many other female cosplayers who don't do that, but still spend a lot of time and money marketing themselves, but they will always be ignored in favor of the one who is showing her boobs.

Guy cosplays usually suck anyway. Most just buy shit from chinese ebay stores, and the rest commission them or get their friends to make costume for them, and never bother giving credit, unless asked directly, and then they get defensive saying how much they had to "modify". See: Harley's Joker

I don't understand why /cgl/ doesn't see cosplayers known mainly through videos as cosplayers. Deadpool vs has over a million hits on his videos where he cosplays and you have the folks at Beatdown Boogie who make awesome Dragoncon vids and have a CoD/Metal Gear series at 3 million views. These stats dwarf anything that Jnig or Yaya can muster yet we don't even consider them when thinking of famous cosplayers.

The Deadpool vs guy was humorous, but it gets old fast, and seeing as he is just a guy in one of the mass produced Deadpool suits, there really is nothing exceptional there, cosplay wise.
As for the Beatdown Boogie guys, yes, their videos are great. But again, they are not cosplayers. They are videographers.
