I feel like that homestuck god tier fabric guide should include jersey knits, maybe as a category under spandex? Cotton, spandex and polyester are all included but I think blends are worth a mention, as cotton-spandex stretch knits are great for hoods, robes, shirts and pants, but I know most beginner sewers would have trouble with spandex's slippery texture.

there's no real quota but the taller/more advanced shape of the horns the harder it is to do a good gradient
but then again if you manage to do it it is all a matter of preference
as a general rule of thumb, you should match it to the rest of your cosplay, the toonier your wig and outfit the better block will look like.

What the fuck did I do wrong? I got the actual "paint" instead of any kind of cream or whatever else it comes in.
>Mix paint for right color
>Apply with wedge
>Contour with wedge (This always seems to take the paint completely OFF rather then actually contouring it, even if the wedge already had some on it)
>Give it like 2 minutes
>Notice glaring errors of spots that had faded since I applied it
>touch up
>wait 2 more minutes
>Apply 3-4 coats of "Super sealer"
>Go to my computer for about 15 minutes
>Notice that When I smile or anything, the paint fades/cracks
>Wiping a finger across my face makes it come off onto the finger
>Walking through mist makes it start dripping
What the hell

I know Ben Nye is oil based, so oily skin/sweating will make it rub off. mine has never ever cracked though, and during my weeby HS days I would rub it on my face w/o contouring, sealing etc and it only came off on my nose (which was oily) and if I sweated.

BN's Liquid Paint is designed more for the facepainting you'll find at fairs and the like, whereas the cream colors are targeted more towards fully body coverage.

jfc it seems like every con and meet i hear kids asking for a game of it? If i've got a hand in running a meet up i try and get them playing a game of freezetag instead? keep them busy and out of trouble. otherwise, if we can't get them distracted or onto a different game, we usually sit one of us (torontostuck admins) in and enforce they ask permission for everything, or do silly things instead of kiss/hug. i've seen a few go as hug only ones for 'making friends sake', and one was pretty cute where they had to do 'epic highfives' in the middle right after the dirk+meenah highfive update. Torontostuck has a strict policy with bans on individuals who are too handsy so, things have been pretty good recently.

oh gosh, notable incidents. A jake cosplayer got pantsed in a public park. overly enthusiastic making out, inappropriate noises.. you know, young kids who think pretending you're fucking in a public park, in a circle of people in costume, is totally appropriate.... we had a girl run up and attempt to passionate kiss another girl, who was in a relationship and totally not expecting to be jumped. didn't really give any warning that it wasn't the usual hug in the middle. the one girls girlfriend was in the circle and it was mainly just a 'whoa there buddy' moment. as soon as we explained to her what she'd done, she was fairly apologetic about it.

overall its just sort of a game that easily gets out of hand and makes the group as a whole look bad at cons and cosplay meets. it'd really be better if they kept that sort of shit to private get-togethers instead of out in public.

there are so many ways of doing it but I'll explain mine. I started off by taking a picture of my face in a really harsh lighting, like bathroom or something, then changed it into gray scale and amped up the contrast. This is your shading map.

make sure that all the eyeshadow/highlighter/paint etc you use is matte. this is super important because most eyeshadows are pearly/sparkly even though you can't tell before you put it on. I used Make-Up Store eyeshadow in black and white.

Start adding dark carefully to the areas that are darkest in the photo manip. Under your cheekbones, corners of eyes, etc. Darken slowly. Then move on to the areas that are lighter but still shaded, like under your chin and on your forehead/temples. You can go pretty dark along your hair/wig line, it makes the jet black hair look more natural and gives you face depth.

The white goes on your t-zone, tip of your chin, browbone, and depending on character, bridge of your nose, lower lid etc. This is what really changes the shape of your face.

If you want to contour your nose, use a soft small brush and be careful, if you darken it too much you'll look like a skull mask.

If you want to use blood color, IMO keep to the areas that are pink on a human face, that's where skin is thin and veins would realistically show through: under your eyes, sides of the tip of your nose.

For lips, do not line with black. It makes you look like a drag queen. Mix dark gray eyeshadow with lip balm and use that.

Honestly, what do these outfits have anything to do with the original storyline or characters? It seems like the HS fandom is the most guilty of this shit.

Dirk's pants + that waistline make her legs look stubby and fat, plus dat awkward pulling at the crotch. Braid is limp and flimsy looking, white fabric has no dimension so it's hard to see that the coat is double breasted and the braid looks even more silly as a result. Wig is standard bad Dirk wig. Wing too small to be seen if she's posing like that. Sneakers and Braid don't match.

Jake: Is that supposed to be crossplay or is it Jake as a cutesy dyke?

Not a lot to say about Jane that isn't the fault of the original design. Empire waist and high cut leotard makes her looki boxy, wig isn't great.

Roxy: looks like the leotard is climbing up her vag. Headpieces look unsanded and rough. Curl goes the wrong direction, glove and leotard aren't the same fabric.

Are you serious right now? I can't think of a single homestuck costume she's made in the last year that wasn't sloppily thrown together. Her Porrim is a mess, her mom costume has terrible edges, her Roxy knit dress trim is what I would expect out of a beginner, and her Roxy kimono has awful appliqué on top of barely covering her body. She technically has sewing chops but she's lazy as fuck with her homestuck outfits because she knows she can get away with it.

Yeah, it gives it a really rad effect where the whole inside looks like it's shifting around, and like it has infinite "depth" (there's nothing for your eyes to focus on, it's just a really cool effect)

Also I am wearing eyeshadow! You just can't see it very well in that picture. I'm actually wearing quite a bit of make up. I'll look into more bottom eyeliner though! I tend to wear it only on the outside bottom to make my eyes look bigger.

either way, the expression you're making in that photo just looks... weird. it shows your front teeth too much and isn't complimentary to your face shape, making it indeed seem, as the other anon said, like you just got your wisdom teeth pulled, as well as having a case of buckteeth.

i'd use a lot darker/more eyeshadow. cameras will usually erase 50% of the makeup you put on, so unless you make it really prominent, you'll look washed out. definitely go with the bottom liner, and maybe invest in some fake lashes (or if you're already wearing some, get thicker/longer ones)

For make up just go to your local drug store for some concealer and powder foundation. That will hide acne/bags under you eyes and will reduce shine. Just test a bit in the store on your cheek to get the right colour.

Imo get a long sleeve jacket/shirt/whatever. There's no real proper colour for one so just go to your local thrift store and get one the right length.

For wig, look at your favourite Jake cosplayers and how they style it, then just look up trusted stores on eBay. homestuckcosplayhelp.tumblr.com is really good for stuff like that too.

Thinking about putting together a rule 63! of Kanaya, I have these really nice bright red skinny jeans I found that were 80 bucks, but I got them on clearance and with another discount and snagged them for just 5, a fucking steal. Even though they looked fabulous when I wore them out once, after a single wash the color is faded to shit but not evenly, just on one side so they look wretched. It's like they were painted red or something... I don't even know, the insides are all white so I knew that when I bought them but I was too enticed by the deal to give a shit. Anyone have any idea how I can restore their color?

ok, so; I've made every prop that ive seen eridan have in the comic (gun, computer, wand, wizard hat, trollian glasses, red faygo), is there anything else i can do to make this costume stand out? Besides having a partner, that is.

Really good capes, wig/horns, and fins is what makes an Eridan stand out for me. Also, good contouring. Get some nice make up going, and some a clean hairline and horns, and have your cape collar stand up, and you'll stand out in a good way as an Eridan.

it's not about the number of props, it's basically about being flawless, or as close as possible. You can have all the props on you at once but if your fins arent blended or your hairline is off or your purples don't match it's just one more shitty Eridan.

Make sure to ace all the points everyone else fucks up, that's how you stand out.
