The Sexy Cosplay Girls group failed to raise the £30,000 ($47,000 U.S) they were after. Which in my opinion is fucking awesome! For fucks sake, if you want to travel to a different country and go to conventions or whatever for cosplay reasons, then here's an idea...

PAY FOR IT YOUR FUCKING SELF! cosplaying is a hobby that is meant for fun purposes! So expecting/exploiting people (many neckbeards) to pay for you to do so, means you're a lazy twat.

Tl;dr: I know plenty of cosplayers that pay for themselves to travel and go to cons internationally. They're the ones that deserve respect. Not ones like this who are lazy and expect it to just be handed to them. All because they show their ass and tits off.

But honestly if this had got funded, I would have been worried for my friend that it was barely enough. Expo hotels are very expensive (for that many people) this late in the day. Not to mention increasing flights.

I had a couple of friends who had run their own KS give concerns (providing physical incentives is expensive and a good way to bankrupt yourself). Either way, he wouldn't have been rolling in the dough and that's the same for a lot of people who do them.

Of course Kickstarters make money and this one was was a designed to do just that.

Your Kickstarter would have netted you between £18,000 ($27,000) and £20,000 ($30,000) profit.

That is after Kickstarter fees, bringing in the cosplayers and photographer, paying for hotels,etc doing the shoot and printing off hundreds of extra posters and calenders, beyond those ordered, to sell later. £18,000 - £20,000 is a nice little pot to divide up amongst the organisers.

This is where your cosplayers were coming from:

Europe x 8
UK x 4
Australia x 2
Unknown x 1

Twelve of those are effectively local, possibly thirteen (travelling from Europe is cheap as chips, even in the summer).

However the period you have chosen is one of the cheapest for travelling to the UK and for accommodation, since it is the off-season.

I looked upon this particular Kickstarter as a scam because it would have taken 1/3 or less of the actual money they received to make it happen - so I'm glad it didn't get funded.

You underestimate HOW EXPENSIVE Expo hotels are this close to the event (all the cheap ones are booked out already) and how expensive the furthest away flights are even 'off peak'. Not to mention a big ass booth space for that many people is not cheap at Expo remotely + extra passes.

Essentially you may have had a point had Expo not been a part of this KS.

Then there are other things you missed like the photographer (+1) coming from America, Sneaky Zebra being paid for the video, extra baggage (needed for cosplayers), general travel (metric tonne of taxi's, tube/train rides, maybe petrol etc), FOOD, food would have cost a lot, even if we were conservative (food especially since one of the incentives would be a meal out). Permits for shooting. Just so many damn things.

Anyway I personally have seen and went over budgets, it would have been really tight had it been made and largely would have relied on being super conservative and buying food at supermarkets and what have you. It could have been done for 20k only if a few people/things had been cut out (which I would have preferred.. I did want to aim for a smaller budget, but there we go).

Apparently 17 passes is $800. Photographer makes it $847. Assuming you get the early full weekend passes. The Dealers booth, assuming you get two spaces is $2196. That means 3k.

Assuming at least two people get a free pass as comp, $2943.

Again, I'm assuming it's a different beast, but US cosplayers have, usually, managed to get to shoot at locations for little to no cash by saying it was a media arts project.

Unless you're renting a studio, in which prices are usually only $100 an hour, it won't rack up to nearly that high. Let's say $2000

We're still looking at $20,000 budget.

MCM is 2 days. I honestly can't imagine why the cosplayers, with one costume for the shoot, each, and then an extra costume for the expo plus a minimal amount of clothes need more than two luggage cases.

Assuming we're talking 4 days, it's still unlikely, since I imagine the focus should be on the photoshoot. With 4 adults per room, assuming, and assuming you had made it on time to get a fairly close hotel that's cheap and you went ahead and got 3 rooms, $3065.

Budget is now roughly $17800. Let's say SneakyZebra for SOME REASON charges 2k. $1580. Let's say baggage costs $2k.

$13800. Food and transportation WILL NOT rack up to $13k.

You've also not included: cost for incentives and Kickstarters cut. And yes food and short transport for that many people over a week racks up a lot.

Aside from the fact that 'London Expo' as a vacation is laughable (WOOHOO let's all go to the.. docklands), it would have been solid working all days, no 'vacation/sight seeing' days, just photoshoots. There wasn't enough time.

Cosplayers in general are really edgy about any projects involving cosplay if it means anyone is in any way getting a 'free ride', it's bizarre because you don't see this in any other hobby as much. Kickstarters are made all of the time that cover the costs of doing the project.

I mean I'd have kind of got it if anyone was getting expenses for their costumes (they weren't) or if the incentives were silly and no one got anything in return.

I mean this is a tangent, but admittedly I find it interesting. No other hobby I know of/am involved in is as quick to say 'OMG GET A JOB AND PAY FOR IT YOURSELF' as cosplay is. I suppose I am intrigued to know why, but maybe it's just the way the community is. I know a lot of people are very un-fond of cosplay becoming a bigger thing.

Either way you don't see nearly as much resistance in the music or youtube communities at all.

I don't get how someone in their right state of mind thinks that it's legit and respectfull to have someone else pay for their stuff. I'm not implying anything related to kickstarters since I'm not into that.
Having a project is okay, but I think it is a little bit pretencious to pledge for money like this.
I'm saying like this because it is nothing that will contribute for a better cause. I only see pretty girls wanting some money and in vanity thinking they are godly cosplayers.
I live in a county where it's a pain to find photoshoot places and we search and search like fucking crazy to get good work, so don't convince me it IS impossible to get good photos without all that amount of shit.
I'm a college student and don't have a job and even I try to pay for my cosplay stuff and hobbies.

The reason why the community can't handle this kind of thing is that probably everyone in here cosplayers or not, and mostly cosplayers probably PAY for their materials, conventions and so on.

Things like hotels being expensive at short notice isn't justification. All that means is you planned this very poorly. It wouldn't have been hard for you to have paced this so you could book hotels and flights at cheaper rates.

And I'm all in favour of cosplayers getting to know eachother and aborad experiences but they must deserve them.

Cool projects could happen for the cosplay world. Instead of wanting all to go to one place and do all that nonsence amount of shit, the work could be crafted by local photographers with the cosplayers, and some management team would organise and take care off the final product. But that's how inteligent humble people would work I guess.

We're already been burned by cosplay projects and after Sexy Peach Photoshoot, Zelda Project and Wild Places which all had heaps of money thrown at them with shitty results, we're gonna be wary of who we fund now (rightfully so). I'm not afraid of donating to kickstarter if I see the project being funded is worth my money. I'll donate to a game because I want to play the game, I'll donate to an event because I want to attend. There's nothing this project offers the community that I can not get for free from other people. All we're really paying for is a bunch of cosplayers to go to a single con, get a booth and some good photos. I can get good photos of characters I like ANYWHERE and knowing that you folks are wearing old outfits, one quick visit to your cosplay pages and I can see good pictures of you free of charge. Hell your big super team isn't aren't even interacting with one another as in you're coming together to make one huge group costume from a single series. All your efforts are going to be just as fragmented as your preview photo on your kickstarter.

I'm not saying its bad to make money using cosplay as people should be compensated for quality work and good effort and to be frank this shows neither of those elements. If this was funded I can already see what we would get.

- over shopped photos full of uninspired poses that we've seen done before
- Typical "backstage" photos where you'll take pictures of yourselves in the hotel room or prepping for the con.
- obligatory group shot with convention guest worth paying money to see
- One or two group shots after the con
- "travel" photos where various members will upload pictures of the airport or travel scenery which isn't any less obnoxious when we see our actual friends do.

As has been explained many times. Volpin's not stupid enough to talk about it online. That would damage his reputation and his business. When she put her Twitter back up Volpin wasn't following her any more.

The thing that bugs me most about Ai-Honey is that she tells too many people this kind of stuff.

We all have our secrets, but there's some shit you should just not tell people. I knew about her affair with Volpin months ago now after she told someone I know in confidence because she was "heartbroken" over it, who then told me. Doesn't take much to figure it out, even after only seeing her with him in person at one UK con and everyone considering her a general whore, even people very close to her (I won't say friends because she might be someone smart enough to realise she has no real friends she can trust. If she doesn't that's sad). All it takes is telling one person, and in a small community it just takes a few days for most people to be "in the know".

Either way, proof or no proof, rumours start somewhere. Whenever I see threads like this I just wonder if 10 years down the line those involved will be any happier, and how they'll look back on their behaviour now. We all have better things to do than be posting in the threads, but this girl really takes the biscuit.

She definitely knows this. Ai-Honey has never shown much intelligence but you would have to be an actual retard to be in her position and not realise.

It's way easier to get your breasts out and say you enjoy people not liking you and crying into your pillow every night than it is to have some self respect and make yourself a life you can be happy with.

It's really no surprise when you think she's friends with people like Yaya and Volpin.

I've been a cosplayer since the late 90's and now everytime I meet a new person they seem, for lack of a better term, stuck on themselves.

I just met SushiMonster and Umister at DragonCon and neither of them were friendly.
My only guess was that at the time I wasn't in anything impressive so they didn't think that I was anything worth talking to.
