The Sexy Cosplay Girls group failed to raise the £30,000 ($47,000 U.S) they were after. Which in my opinion is fucking awesome! For fucks sake, if you want to travel to a different country and go to conventions or whatever for cosplay reasons, then here's an idea...

PAY FOR IT YOUR FUCKING SELF! cosplaying is a hobby that is meant for fun purposes! So expecting/exploiting people (many neckbeards) to pay for you to do so, means you're a lazy twat.

Tl;dr: I know plenty of cosplayers that pay for themselves to travel and go to cons internationally. They're the ones that deserve respect. Not ones like this who are lazy and expect it to just be handed to them. All because they show their ass and tits off.

>> No.7091367

How much did they end up making, OP?

Thank god. Wasn't looking forward to this, if you want to make a calader go for it. Use your own money.

It would have been easier to pair photogs from each location up with a cosplayer in the area and shoot there. They didn't need 40k so they could have a free vacation.

Kickstarters don't make money. Not to mention this wasn't even /my/ Kickstarter. Even if it had been funded I wouldn't have gotten anything. Shady Gofundme type sites sure. Kickstarter projects have to have at least some merit to get a green light.

>Kickstarters don't make money.

What a pile of bull.

Of course Kickstarters make money and this one was was a designed to do just that.

Your Kickstarter would have netted you between £18,000 ($27,000) and £20,000 ($30,000) profit.

That is after Kickstarter fees, bringing in the cosplayers and photographer, paying for hotels, etc doing the shoot and printing off hundreds of extra posters and calenders, beyond those ordered, to sell later. £18,000 - £20,000 is a nice little pot to divide up amongst the organisers.

This is where your cosplayers were coming from:
America X 2
Europe x 8
UK x 4
Australia x 2
Unknown x 1

Twelve of those are effectively local, possibly thirteen (travelling from Europe is cheap as chips, even in the summer).

However the period you have chosen is one of the cheapest for travelling to the UK and for accommodation, since it is the off-season.

I looked upon this particular Kickstarter as a scam because it would have taken 1/3 or less of the actual money they received to make it happen - so I'm glad it didn't get funded.

There was going to be no profit.

You underestimate HOW EXPENSIVE Expo hotels are this close to the event (all the cheap ones are booked out already) and how expensive the furthest away flights are even 'off peak'. Not to mention a big ass booth space for that many people is not cheap at Expo remotely + extra passes.

Essentially you may have had a point had Expo not been a part of this KS.

Then there are other things you missed like the photographer (+1) coming from America, Sneaky Zebra being paid for the video, extra baggage (needed for cosplayers), general travel (metric tonne of taxi's, tube/train rides, maybe petrol etc), FOOD, food would have cost a lot, even if we were conservative (food especially since one of the incentives would be a meal out). Permits for shooting. Just so many damn things.

Anyway I personally have seen and went over budgets, it would have been really tight had it been made and largely would have relied on being super conservative and buying food at supermarkets and what have you. It could have been done for 20k only if a few people/things had been cut out (which I would have preferred.. I did want to aim for a smaller budget, but there we go).

Diff. Anon.

Apparently 17 passes is $800. Photographer makes it $847. Assuming you get the early full weekend passes. The Dealers booth, assuming you get two spaces is $2196. That means 3k.

Assuming at least two people get a free pass as comp, $2943.

Again, I'm assuming it's a different beast, but US cosplayers have, usually, managed to get to shoot at locations for little to no cash by saying it was a media arts project.

Unless you're renting a studio, in which prices are usually only $100 an hour, it won't rack up to nearly that high. Let's say $2000

$4943...
Okay let's say your budget is now at $7000 from permits.

We're still looking at $20,000 budget.

MCM is 2 days. I honestly can't imagine why the cosplayers, with one costume for the shoot, each, and then an extra costume for the expo plus a minimal amount of clothes need more than two luggage cases.

Assuming we're talking 4 days, it's still unlikely, since I imagine the focus should be on the photoshoot. With 4 adults per room, assuming, and assuming you had made it on time to get a fairly close hotel that's cheap and you went ahead and got 3 rooms, $3065.

Budget is now roughly $17800. Let's say SneakyZebra for SOME REASON charges 2k. $1580. Let's say baggage costs $2k.

$13800. Food and transportation WILL NOT rack up to $13k.

Seriously??

>> No.7093373

>>7093349
It would be four nights around Expo, or it wouldn't have been so expensive (you'd need the hotel that Thursday so everyone would be up and organised for Friday).

Three rooms is only 12 people for Expo anon. There would have 16/17 girls alone not including photographers and organisers. Try more like five rooms. And no, there is no 'cheap hotel option' because this is last minute for Expo. I am guessing you are not English and aware of how expensive they are right now.

As I said the /London Expo/ part of the equation is what adds all the money sadly.

You've also not included: cost for incentives and Kickstarters cut. And yes food and short transport for that many people over a week racks up a lot.

I don't even have the final budget in front of me and I can still see stuff you missed. At the end of the day I would have gained nothing for myself and if I thought my friend was making SWEET, SWEET PROFIT I would have told him to get bent and reduce the budget.

>Vacation

Aside from the fact that 'London Expo' as a vacation is laughable (WOOHOO let's all go to the.. docklands), it would have been solid working all days, no 'vacation/sight seeing' days, just photoshoots. There wasn't enough time.

Cosplayers in general are really edgy about any projects involving cosplay if it means anyone is in any way getting a 'free ride', it's bizarre because you don't see this in any other hobby as much. Kickstarters are made all of the time that cover the costs of doing the project.

I mean I'd have kind of got it if anyone was getting expenses for their costumes (they weren't) or if the incentives were silly and no one got anything in return.

I mean this is a tangent, but admittedly I find it interesting. No other hobby I know of/am involved in is as quick to say 'OMG GET A JOB AND PAY FOR IT YOURSELF' as cosplay is. I suppose I am intrigued to know why, but maybe it's just the way the community is. I know a lot of people are very un-fond of cosplay becoming a bigger thing.

Either way you don't see nearly as much resistance in the music or youtube communities at all.

Getting a Kickstarter funded is very hard work (unless you are lucky enough to have an exceptionally large fanbase). So laziness.. lolno.

Honestly it's far more "let's put our project out there and see if enough people care to help us achieve it"

Because yes it is pretty risky to put all your time and money into a project if no one ends up caring afterwards. It's a gigantic risk if it's a lot of money, so I don't blame people tbh. It's a good way to see if the demand is there, if it isn't - no loss.

I don't get how someone in their right state of mind thinks that it's legit and respectfull to have someone else pay for their stuff. I'm not implying anything related to kickstarters since I'm not into that.
Having a project is okay, but I think it is a little bit pretencious to pledge for money like this.
I'm saying like this because it is nothing that will contribute for a better cause. I only see pretty girls wanting some money and in vanity thinking they are godly cosplayers.
I live in a county where it's a pain to find photoshoot places and we search and search like fucking crazy to get good work, so don't convince me it IS impossible to get good photos without all that amount of shit.
I'm a college student and don't have a job and even I try to pay for my cosplay stuff and hobbies.

The reason why the community can't handle this kind of thing is that probably everyone in here cosplayers or not, and mostly cosplayers probably PAY for their materials, conventions and so on.

Other nerd related hobbies such as being a pro gamer or taking part in niche interest tournaments (yo-yoing, and other bizzare shit) usually pay to go out of pocket and hope that their winnings cover their expenses or they receive sponsorship from other companies to either cover or ease the cost of travel and lodging. Cosplayers are asking their fans for donations and making them pay out of pocket. I don't need to donate to Justin Wong in order to get him to compete as the guy is a good enough player that he generates his own income.

Things like hotels being expensive at short notice isn't justification. All that means is you planned this very poorly. It wouldn't have been hard for you to have paced this so you could book hotels and flights at cheaper rates.

And you're acting like having everybody present at MCM is vital. Most of the people who go to MCM don't even go inside the actual building and few people backing this project would be there at all.

Why fly a photographer over from America when you have a website with loads of photographers attached and you're planning on paying someone else to shop the images into CGI fantasy?

Why fly people from Australia when you have a website full of people based in the UK?

Why ask for money to cover premium London accommodation and city transport when you'll surely be travelling outside of London for any good locations?

Why so many people when you could have done a normal one per month 12 month calendar?

We're already been burned by cosplay projects and after Sexy Peach Photoshoot, Zelda Project and Wild Places which all had heaps of money thrown at them with shitty results, we're gonna be wary of who we fund now (rightfully so). I'm not afraid of donating to kickstarter if I see the project being funded is worth my money. I'll donate to a game because I want to play the game, I'll donate to an event because I want to attend. There's nothing this project offers the community that I can not get for free from other people. All we're really paying for is a bunch of cosplayers to go to a single con, get a booth and some good photos. I can get good photos of characters I like ANYWHERE and knowing that you folks are wearing old outfits, one quick visit to your cosplay pages and I can see good pictures of you free of charge. Hell your big super team isn't aren't even interacting with one another as in you're coming together to make one huge group costume from a single series. All your efforts are going to be just as fragmented as your preview photo on your kickstarter.

I'm not saying its bad to make money using cosplay as people should be compensated for quality work and good effort and to be frank this shows neither of those elements. If this was funded I can already see what we would get.

- over shopped photos full of uninspired poses that we've seen done before
- Typical "backstage" photos where you'll take pictures of yourselves in the hotel room or prepping for the con.
- obligatory group shot with convention guest worth paying money to see
- One or two group shots after the con
- "travel" photos where various members will upload pictures of the airport or travel scenery which isn't any less obnoxious when we see our actual friends do.

My friend was very focused on how he wanted to do things and we butted heads a lot on stuff like this, but at the end of the day it was his project and they weren't my decisions. He's treating it as a learning curve, sometimes 'go big or go home' doesn't work out for the best.

As has been explained many times. Volpin's not stupid enough to talk about it online. That would damage his reputation and his business. He will talk about it directly to people but he's not going to make a tell-all Facebook post about it for obvious reasons. Everybody who knows him knows about it. Everybody who was at D*C knows about it. The only people who don't believe it are people who have never met him.

What Volpin has said exactly is that he admits to cheating on his wife with three girls at different cons. His wife has said that they have been going through some trouble. Neither of them has said the names of the girls. It's really easy to work out that one of them is Ai-Honey, though. She and Volpin were together at several cons and suspiciously neither of them acknowledged it online even though they both always tweet about everything else they each do. People close to Volpin reported that his wife was angry after one con because he hadn't told her that Ai-Honey was there and some photos appeared of them drinking together. Right before Volpin came out and admitted he had been cheating Ai-Honey said on here and on Twitter that she was heartbroken over a guy mistreating her. At D*C Volpin and his wife were being really quiet and awkward and at the same time Ai-Honey took her Twitter and Facebook pages offline. When she put her Twitter back up Volpin wasn't following her any more.

You can do the math.

The thing that bugs me most about Ai-Honey is that she tells too many people this kind of stuff.

We all have our secrets, but there's some shit you should just not tell people. I knew about her affair with Volpin months ago now after she told someone I know in confidence because she was "heartbroken" over it, who then told me. Doesn't take much to figure it out, even after only seeing her with him in person at one UK con and everyone considering her a general whore, even people very close to her (I won't say friends because she might be someone smart enough to realise she has no real friends she can trust. If she doesn't that's sad). All it takes is telling one person, and in a small community it just takes a few days for most people to be "in the know".

Either way, proof or no proof, rumours start somewhere. Whenever I see threads like this I just wonder if 10 years down the line those involved will be any happier, and how they'll look back on their behaviour now. We all have better things to do than be posting in the threads, but this girl really takes the biscuit.

>(I won't say friends because she might be someone smart enough to realise she has no real friends she can trust. If she doesn't that's sad)

She definitely knows this. Ai-Honey has never shown much intelligence but you would have to be an actual retard to be in her position and not realise.

But she behaves the same way too. The moment her back is turned people are talking about her and none of her 'friends' trust her or have any respect for her. But it is also impossible to talk to her at any time without her complaining about one of her 'friends' and spilling all their secrets. She is the single most untrustworthy person in UK cosplay. Just look at how she follows Mark around but the moment he leaves she's telling everybody about what a shitty boyfriend he was. Or how she spends all her time with the sexy cosplay girls group even though she keeps telling everyone about how shit they are and how she knew their kickstarter was terrible and the moment she leaves the room they're talking about how easy it is to dupe her into doing whatever they want and they don't give a shit about her.

She's desperate for attention and she knows she'll never get positive attention so she's learnt to revel in the two-faced Mean Girls shit instead. It's way easier to get your breasts out and say you enjoy people not liking you and crying into your pillow every night than it is to have some self respect and make yourself a life you can be happy with.

It's really no surprise when you think she's friends with people like Yaya and Volpin.

What's wrong with people like Jnig, Yaya, Volpin, AiHoney?

Can't anyone be talented, pretty, and popular without it turning them into an asshat?

You know now that I have written that I realize, of course not. Few people can keep their head with money and attention. Definitely not cosplayers who are attention wanters from the get-go.

JNig is guilty of many things but actually the one thing she's not guilty of is hiding who she is. She's always been very up front about wanting to be a sex symbol and loving the attention.

The other three are indeed totally hypocrticial asshats.

It must be really sad when Nigri is your moral and intellectual superior.

I wonder if you are right.
I've been a cosplayer since the late 90's and now everytime I meet a new person they seem, for lack of a better term, stuck on themselves.

I just met SushiMonster and Umister at DragonCon and neither of them were friendly.
My only guess was that at the time I wasn't in anything impressive so they didn't think that I was anything worth talking to.

While for the most part this is true, I somewhat disagree. I know a few 'famous' cosplayers that are incredibly sweet and down to earth both online and in real life.

Volpin cheated on his wife?

Last person I had complete respect for in the hobby has lost it.
I wonder if this will effect his business when word gets out. People always blame the woman first but after they think about it they blame the man too. Plus people never let this shit drop. It keeps up for years even if you reform.
Then again, rockstars and actors pull cheating shit all the time and they recover just fine from it.

How many times do I have to say, don't stick your dick in crazy. It's NEVER worth it.

Fatkraken might be a disgusting feminist but at least she's given more to the UK cosplay community than ai-honey has ever done. She has represented the UK in the ECC, coming 3rd, as well as doing multiple panels teaching costuming skills at events like Kita, Aya and Ame. You might not be interested in fursuits and prosthetics, but she's given more back to the community than ai-honey has ever done.

What I find funny, is that anyone can use Google and find old webcam photos from when she was a webcam stripper. Hahahaha who does she actually think she is fooling?!

But yes Ai Honey please continue on how you aren't a whore and didn't let Volpin stick his beta married and flaccid, love wand in you.

Oh yeah, that's right you don't try to deny either one, you just avoid it and try and be like "LOL I TROLLZ U" to divert the attention away. No one is buying it and they can see right through it. SO STAHP! its like a train wreck to watch.

No matter how smug you act, Ai-Honey, you're still the stupid slag who begs for it up the ass from married men. And the more you fail to address the Volpin issue the more guilty you both look. It is amazing that someone can be so stupid as to not cotton on to that.

You've never made a cosplay worth half a shit either. Even Nigri has more talent. What are your plans for October Expo? Let me guess: a poorly made bikini and that stupid 90s styled blonde wig you seem unable to remove.

I shall enjoy laughing at you behind your back along with the rest of the convention floor.

Someone is a weird creeper to be making a mental note of the wigs I wear. FYI that would be EVA's wig.

(and no I am wearing no bikini's to Expo, if you're really interested and I feel like you might be, you creepy angry stalker).

Really the whole 'you have no REAL FWENDS!!11' threat is entirely lost on me, since I consider myself to have two close friends and I don't give a flying fuck what any of the rest of my casual friends and acquaintances say about me. I'm sure you don't have many real good friends either being you are a bitchy coward with a sandy vagina. :'(

Nope, I didn't underestimate anything. I know how much it costs to arrange these things because I've done them all (the same or similar) over the last three years.

Tell me, what was the purpose of having everyone involved in the project going to Expo and why would you need more than a standard booth or standard width booth with extra depth (if shooting there)?

You weren't planning on having them all behind the table at the same time rather then having just a couple behind the table at the time and the rest around Expo, were you?

Yes I do and I know what the prices are like for that weekend for the hotels at Excel - however when you are handling that many people you have a lot more options to reduce costs.
