I would honestly tell you to try and do WAY less makeup. It's become something of a fandom constant that Levi cosplayers think they they need a shitload of makeup--including eyebrow makeup just to make him look grouchy? As a half Chinese girl that looks really obviously mixed, I had this worry since 99% of the characters are European (and even make it a point that East Asians seem to have died out) and seeing people complain about race this much is depressing. Honestly though, while its a bonus to be the same race, I think just go ahead and cosplay who you want. If someone wants to costly a character that doesn't have the same skin tone as them, though, and they don't mind that it the skin tone isn't accurate, then it's fine. Basically these threads consist of 2 kinds of people:

a) people with taste, probably people who read the manga or at least aren't jumping on a bandwagon of "omg best anime of 2013! xD"

b) plebs who jump on it because it's a popular easy to understand shonen and "everyone says it's good! xD", bandwaggoners, Tumblr trash, SJW, "Ymir is black! xD", "levi x erwin otp xD" et cetera

Naturally, group a) demands some class from cosplay - this includes looking like your character (e.g. having similar facial features at least, preferably being the right race too if possible) and putting effort into your cosplay (e.g. making your own costumes instead of buying it like everyone else; no edgy "so randum xD" Bro!Titan cosplays with drawn on abs). Basically, a group that has standards, like old /cgl/ used to have.

Group b) represents the new generation that invaded /cgl/ and turned it to shit. Normally they're spread out, but they gather around shit that is popular and that caters to their retarded tastes (SnK is popular right now, but it doesn't actually cater to them, that's just confusion on their side). A good example of this are the endless Homesuck and MLP threads that I've learned to instinctively hide since there's nothing else one can do about it. Just like the Homeshit cosplayers, this group represents decadency and casual "fun" - "cosplay is all about fun and hanging out with ur friends!:) it doesn't matter if it *doesn't look perfect* [read: looks completely shit]" mantra applies here. They buy everything, and when they don't it looks pitifully bad. Naturally, looking anywhere near what their character looks like is completely unnecessary to them. Yet despite having no standards, if someone ******DARES****** to criticize them, it is the end of the world, you are literally the 2nd coming of Hitler.

Meh, I ordered from taobao a really great SnK Eren cosplay, but unfortunately the belts are too long at some points. While everything is made out of good quality and measured really well, this kinda ruins the cosplay. Unfortunately I absolutely suck at everything related to handcraft. :/

Any advice how I could solve this problem? Any experiences from other cosplayers?

I tried to give it to a tailor today, but he refused the commission, as he probably thought this would be fetish gear o something like that, even though I tried to prevent this impression from the beginning. :/

How loose do they hang on you? Or could you snap a picture with them on? If they're just a bit loose but can still be held in place without a huge noticeable gap, you could probably double Velcro the back of the belts to the top of your pants to keep them in place.

But, I think a picture would better help.

Well, unfortunately it's quite a bit more than just loose. I would probably have to cut of the length of some belts and resew them.

On the topic of belts, what's the best kind to use? Actual belts or fabricating your own with something like making bias tape from pleather?

I was considering the Velcro to my pants and the backside of the belts just in case so I don't have to continuously adjust them or cut off my circulation from tightening them. Any advice?

Buying because I'm in a huge ass group and we want to match. I'm usually a cosplay purist and have made every costume I've ever worn on my own... but the harnesses have never appealed to me, haha. We're all styling our own wigs and doing our own shirts, pants, and 3DMG, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Oh it's not that it's not okay! Commissions/bought costumes are absolutely fine, if you don't have the skill set, or the time. I'm just a cosplayer who gets more than half of the enjoyment out of making it for myself- being able to say "yeah, I made the whole thing" and figuring out how to piece together everything.

You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to buying costumes, though. Commissions that are both quality and paying a living wage to the costumer are HUGELY expensive. Hours and hours go into this sort of work. Large warehouse-like companies (like what you'll find on ebay) can afford to make costumes "cheaply" because it's not going to be as amazingly quality and they're not paying their employees much.

I've never been one to turn up my nose at a commissioned/bought costume (as long as you're not trying to compete with it), but making it is why I do this. SnK, though... I really want to cosplay the characters without making the costume myself, so I'm going in with a group to buy the harder-to-make parts.

Well the other tailors failed me, too... I kinda helped myself now, even though I would have liked to prevent this. I >really< suck at sewing.

Btw., sorry for the underground quality of the foto, it was just a quick one taken with my mobile. (Im pnlywearing pants + shirts & belts here, also only one leg completely dressed)

At least I got the straps on my legs quite a bit tighter with making more holes for the belt construction. The part at my legs is still rather loose, though. Maybe double folding the elastic band around the foot will help a bit, otherwise I will have to stay with having it covered by the boots anyway. But meh.... :/

The biggest issue were and are the straps along the sides. Those are still hugeass long and cutting something there might make problems on other parts of the construction. Right now, on the foto, was able to trick a bit to make them a bit less loose. Still have to figure out how to save this.

But even after all I would have to be quite a bit taller to make it look good though. :/ The manufactures probably thought of taller germans when they chose the size. Well, sucks to be small then.

Sorry to hear that other tailor didn't work out.

Firstly, dang you're attractive.

Second, for the straps at your side, maybe near the top where it goes towards the strap on your chest, fold it and safety pin it for now against that strap and hopefully it will stay hidden under your jacket.

The ones around your groin, maybe do the same with them to your main belt at your sides. Probably do the same with the leg ones that will hopefully be covered by your boots so they won't show.

Sorry if that's not much help but that's all I can suggest without being able to physically help. 8( Other than that, at least you look good!

Can't remember for the life of me if I posted this in one of the other threads, I apologize if i did.
The collar and cropping the bottom is all I had to modify for the Kwik sew 3534 pattern.
The right side is the original and the left is the modified, in which I just made the top collar piece shorter. The bottom hem is near my natural waist. The pattern instructions basically hold your hand, my friend who just started sewing only had to ask me about top-stitching.
