So I posted this in the old thread, but I figured I'll post it here too. My LJ account got suspended because it thought my messages were spam. I sent a buyer proof pics from imgur, and I've done that before and nothing has happened. Her account got suspended too I'm really pissed off and I'm wondering what I can do to fix it. Has this happened to anyone before?

There was a blouse thread the other day on EGL and one further down the catalog about finding them so:

>> No.7076747

>>7076733
very, if you go on the egl_comm sales on lj you can search by tag and find blouses.

>> No.7076790

>>7076733
Some people who start off don't get a whole outfit at once but I'd say it's more common for people buying lolita clothes to start with dresses and skirts. Those are the most identifiably lolita parts of an outfit and then they build coordinates around the main piece.

I wouldn't worry about whether it's common or not. Are you trying to get into lolita or just like the blouses?

>> No.7076857

>>7076790
I love the fashion of it. Mostly the blouses and coats. I've come to love Gothic Lolita styles more than anything (mostly because of the dark colors and I found that the skirts are longer) but the idea of wearing cords puts me off a bit.

>> No.7076861

>>7076733

I'm finding this highly unusual.

If you're trying to get into lolita, keep in mind, usually the blouses, the accessories, shoes, bag, even the petticoat needs to be matched to the skirt or dress. Some dresses look better with folded down collars, some only look good with high collars. While pointy collars usually look out of place with most sweet styles and peter pan collars look odd with most classic styles, there are exceptions to this rule, so the style of blouse is best chosen after the dress choice is made.

If you just like lolita blouses, it might be easier to shop j-fashion and k-fashion stores for fancier, but not actually lolita blouses. When you actually try to wear a lolita blouse as an office blouse you'll suddenly realise how those few extra lines of lace and pintucks make a whole world of difference to how professional or how fussy your blouse looks.

>> No.7076881

>>7076861
Thanks for the advice. I have to ask is it odd that people match all the time? No one uses parts of an outfit in everyday wear? Maybe it's a person by person thing.

>> No.7076888

>>7076861
Are you new or something? Pointy collars are usually out of the question unless we're talking menswear Moitie or punk. Peter pan collars more often than not go with classic (do you have this impression that only high neck blouses go with classic?) Please do some more research before you tell other people what to do. You're worse than lolitatips.

Some lolitas use the clothes for daily wear, some don't. It depends on the lolitas, the dresses they have, and their lifestyle (some can wear it often, some are stuck in a uniform often, etc)

You know how some people say it looks like you dressed in the dark, or it looks like you rolled around in your wardrobe and wore whatever stuck? That's all matching is, you take the trouble to make sure you don't look like you dressed in the dark. Personally I think you should do this for both lolita and non-lolita outfits, maybe I'm too picky about that though.

You also seem to think a coordinate is some big deal. It isn't. Just think of it as "today's outfit", and all the matching is simply aimed at not looking like the lolitas dressed in the dark. That's all there is to it.

Between CGL, EGL, BTB, and the general lolita knowledge base sites I think you can get a pretty decent understanding of lolita. I think most of the misconceptions comes from young or naive people who only get their information from limited or unqualified resources or can't cognitively handle a little bitterness in such a "sweet" fashion. You have to be pretty dense to equate a lolita confession tumblr with reality.

I got this heavy bonnet from Haenuli a while back. It's lovely, but I can't get it to stay on my head. If I tip forward even slightly, it comes tumbling off. The only way I've found to counteract this is flipping the comb that's supposed to hold it in place forward, then pinning it in place with 4+ bobby pins. Even then, it doesn't sit right and messes up my wig. I love the bonnet and it would look so nice with a lot of things I have, but I cant get it to work.

YES I've done this many, many times (mostly with shit bodyline shoes the paint rubs off of) and I'm so sick of reading inaccurate bullshit other people say.

It's really not hard at all. Use either floral paint (which is meant to paint fake flowers and can be found in any craft store) or outdoor paint. I like Krylon brand, comes in many colors and is durable. Then use a clear varnish. Both need to be spray form.

When it comes to the actual painting, get yourself a ton of newspaper. Roll some up and shove it inside the shoes so you don't get paint on the insides. Cover the soles with masking tape or even clear packing tape if you're in a pinch. I always cover the whole sole just to be safe, but I suppose you could be lazy and only cover parts.

Go outside, find a flat surface, cover it with newspaper and spray. Chances are you'll need two or more coats. If your shoes are a dark color and you're trying to paint them lighter, you should do a primer coat or two with white paint. You can use acrylic paint for this if you really wanted to.

They're probably not really that bad, but the issue is they're often a lazy choice of shoe, which usually is worn with a lazy outfit, which results in an overall mess. There are some cases where I've seen ballet flats look okay, but to be honest, even when it's a great outfit, it ends up being "that outfit is great but I just wish she'd worn different shoes". The issue with ballet flats is that they have no real structure to them, so they make your feet look weirdly wide and flat, and make your legs look stumpy, which is not flattering with the length and shape of lolita skirts.

The construction or fit is hardly the reason why this is fugly.
It's fugly because it looks like an elementary design (and usually I'm not even this harsh on indie designs) but it makes absolutely no sense and everything clashes. Big vertical stripes against some elegant looking 'vine' that frames the pokemon? Wat?
And at that I MIGHT be able to forgive the skirt. But the jumper? They could have incorporated some of the pokemon design colors into the bodice details so it wouldn't look so much like they just slapped on a design onto a plain purple jsk.

They should have prototyped this first so they could've gotten some crit. So sad that they went straight for reservations.

I always thought the reasoning behind that was because a lot of the time, 'coords' ended up looking costumey when they're fandom inspired. These designs could have been way worse, they could have made a sylveon inspired rori dress, which really means a sylveon ginjinka.

This isn't a lolita query, it's actually about otome, but as I couldn't find an otome thread and didn't want to start one just for my question, I figured I'd ask here.

How long should the skirt be on an otome dress? I have a super cute dress I'd love to coord in an otome way but it shows quite a bit of leg. It falls about a third of the way down my thigh. Is it too short?

Otome doesn't have specific rules like that (pic related: shorts can even be used). The main idea is to look like a "young maiden", so modesty is important - but you can balance out the look of a shorter dress with tights or longer socks.
Since you say it only covers a third of your thigh, I would definitely opt for leggings or tights in this case. ETC actually sells really cute leggings, even.

Australia Post is pretty damn expensive but their pricing isn't inclusive of shipping.
From what I was told a year or so back they get the fabric printed overseas, shipped to Adelaide for cutting out, shipped somewhere else to be sewn, shipped back to Adelaide for bundling and shipping out......that's a lot of included postage costs, probably $70-80 just for that (if she uses express, regular post is cheaper)

About $50-60 of each dress' cost appears to be internal australian postage from her to the dressmaker, then back again for posting. I really don't get why it needs to be shipped all over oz to be made....

Girl, no one should call you pathetic, but getting a reduction to fit "properly" into one piece of clothing is more than a little extreme.

You should really stop stressing out about it. Don't sell the dress if money isn't an immediate issue. Some new options might come up - you could find a blouse that would work really well with it, for example. I understand that it's frustrating not to have your dream dress fit you the way you want it to, but it's better not to get immediate gratification than do something you could seriously regret later, like selling the dress. I only brought an ivory vintage blouse, a skirt that goes with it, some jewellery, and a pair of those black bodyline tea-party-ish heeled shoes with me, and pic related is what I'm planning to start off with. Is it all pulling together nicely, or do you think there are some things in there I could stand to swap out for the sake of cohesiveness? Social Justice Warrior

it's the term used to describe someone who is extremely vocal about hot button issues without doing proper research or understand the actual core of the issue itself, and usually done behind a monitor so they don't have to have their ignorance pointed out in real life. They hardly ever actually DO anything for the causes they spout about over their tumblr, but heck yes they will scream about them online!

Best cases are when someone reblogs a photo of someone doing something racist and says 'omg they didn't, asshole! SIGN THIS ONLINE PETITION TO GET THEM ARRESTED!' and then 500k notes later someone says 'you guys are fucking idiots, this is a scene being photographed for a fucking movie, you could have googled for 5 seconds and found this out.'

Tempest Page recently spouted off about how she loves Paris Hilton so much (because she's in Repo the Genetic opera) and how the ONLY reason people hate her is because she's a rich white girl who had a sex tape leaked and she's actually pretty cool and anything 'bad' she did was when she was super young and, come on, we all make mistakes!

>bigoted comments about gay men recorded in 2012 that she had to publicly apologize for
>2012
>2012
>SO LONG AGO GUYS

But then she turns around to say she doesn't forgive other actors who have done bad things in their younger days? Like, the shit just doesn't make sense how concessions are made for some, and not for others, or the simply lack of research before going off at the mouth.

I guess it's ok because she acted in a movie TP liked though.

She's a great fucking example though, she's reblogged someone's text post that says 'I prefer a toned down natural look to make-up. I personally like it when my gf wears less.' and responded 'IT'S NOT FOR YOU ASSHOLE, YOU EVER FUCKING THINK A WOMAN COULD JUST DO SOMETHING CAUSE *THEY* LIKE IT? WELL WAKE UP, WE CAN!' Since discovering lolita, I've my interest in looking pulled together and fashionable has exponentially increased, even when it comes to mainstream fashion. Busty ladies (not fat ladies, just large waist to bust ratio) - will losing weight fix a boob loaf problem in a partially shirred dress? I fit into the dress, and am working on losing weight - but is it still possible that I'll experience the dreaded loaf in spite of everything?

bust to waist ratio, damn typo

>> No.7088788

>>7088773
>>7088775
boob loaf is 100% due to the difference between your full bust measurement and your underbust measurement (literally nothing to do with waist size). If you're more than 3-4 inch difference you won't fit right into default sized bodices, the patterning allows (by default) for a 2 inch difference (b cup) and with wearing ease you could squeeze in about 3 without it looking off. So if you are the type to lose weight in your tits, yes, you'll be fine, if you're not, then no, you will always have a problem that needs to be solved via compression/minimizer/shapeware which still just redistributes the excess breast tissue more flatteringly around your torso (but looks better than a full on mini boob/boob loaf).

>> No.7088827

>>7088811
You need to tell us your measurements. Just the full bust and the underbust. And no, layering like that actually makes it worse, you're either not fitted properly for the compression bra or you just have a LOT of breast tissue up top. Shirring helps, but it's still going ot look slightly off because your breasts will be pulling the front of the bodice towards the center of your chest, so the seams will look slightly off, but it does help a little, it just doesn't change the princess seam pattern pieces, since it's giving all the room from the elastic in the back. Fully shirred pieces would be the best bet if you really have a massice bust.

I'm a 34 DD (about a 40"/100cm bust). I have major issues with boobloaf in anything. I wear mostly AP and IW. I find AP in general seems to be a little more forgiving in their cuts than IW. I've owned a few Baby pieces but not enough to really get a good feel for the brand (IDK, I just don't dig it as much?) I find that corsets work the best for me. It helps a lot with giving a more proper shape as well as elongating the torso area. I find that in my case, my boobs end up taking up the whole bodice and warps the bodice to appear really wide in the front. The corset lengthens how the bodice looks on me. So I don't get a bad boobloaf/uniboob appearance. I sometimes wear good sports bras and minimizers. But sometimes just strapless bras since my straps show in some of my OPs.

For larger cup sizes, I think full shirring is the most forgiving. But it can look really lumpy depending on how large you are. On me it looks okay, especially with my corset to keep me from looking like lumpterd.

The only issue I tend to run into is with empire waisted OPs riding up because on a B-cup they would sit below the bust and on me they sit naturally halfway up my boobs.

If I ever sell it, I'll just cut that stuff off and sew the strap back in it's original place.

But yeah. I've found the majority of my boob loaf issues come from having a longer torso.

Listen, the only people who want concrit are the ones who ask for it. If you go reposting randomly and giving it, even in the nicest way possible you're not going to get anywhere. These people, especially on tumblr will have too much of an echo chamber of anti-brand anti-elitist anti-"meanies" telling them to ignore it and that they're a perfect snowflake.

I'm looking to get into loli. I've been interested for years, but never had the money or the self-confidence. Now, I think I can give it a try.

However, it seems to be pretty tricky to find lolita stuff that isn't prohibitively expensive to ship to the UK. Are there any poor UK lolitas here? What do you do?

>> No.7089697

>>7088788
I disagree somewhat - this doesn't apply if you're just tiny in general. I have a 5" difference between my bust and underbust...but my underbust is only 25", and I've never experienced boob loaf, despite *technically* being about a D cup (assuming 26 band sizes existed).

I also think a big factor is the length of the bodice of the dress - a longer bodice is going to accommodate a bigger bust much better.

>> No.7089701

Same thing poor lolitas everywhere do.
Handmade, Bodyline, Taobao, secondhand.
Lolita isn't a cheap hobby/fashion, and when you try to cut corners it really shows, so think about that before you leap in.
There is a pretty big market for and of secondhand in the UK, and you can easily pick up cheap brand or offbrand that way.

When should you open a paypal dispute with a seller?
I did a payment plan with this girl, and she did something kind of suspicious a week or so ago. It seemed like it was a mistake, so I let it go. Then I messaged her asking for my tracking, and she says I didn't get it, even though I specifically paid for a more expensive shipping option in order to have tracking. Then she's like "Oh, wait, you did, and I'll get it for you tomorrow."
It's been 3 days, and the 45 day period is about to be up, since I did a longer payment plan. I've messaged her again, and I really don't want to open a dispute, since it seems kind of shitty, but I also don't want to be out $200.

>> No.7089734

>>7089730
I would warn her, saying "if you don't reply with the necessary info by x date, I'm opening a dispute", then follow through if she doesn't.
I've had to do that before (though for much less than $200), and it sucks, but you gave her time - don't let her string you along until your own time is up.

Longtime /cgl/ lurker and primarily a cosplayer, but I just ordered my first lolita piece (an Infanta sailor OP), and had a quick question about hair.
My default hairstyle is pixie short; due to the nature of my hair, no amount of product, hair care or styling can keep it nice when it's long (so growing it out isn't an option).

Can lolita still be pulled off with short hair and accessories (like a modest hairbow or hat), or should I invest in a long or bob wig for coords?

Not posting my hair because I desperately need a haircut, so here's a picture of what I bought.

>> No.7089819

>>7089800
Yes you can style short hair. It is a bit trickier because you cant do the big accessories since you lack the big hair. Hats would work fine. I do think that short haired girls do gravitate towards wigs out of laziness though, since why bother figuring out what works with your hair if you can just copy the known stuff?

Thank you! I ordered my first wig today (my real hair is nasty and thin, and would look bad with a lolita outfit), and a petticoat. I've decided to save my paltry income (disability/mental health benefits, eBay trading earnings) for this OP. I know it's super basic, but I want to start safe.

Hi gen thread. I'm only just getting into lolita, but I'm having trouble finding clothes to fit my large bust. I've looked through the sale threads here with the intention to buy but all the dresses and blouses are just too small for my measurements. What should I do?

I'll just give my full measurements.

39 bust
31 waist
36 hips

These are in inches, though I've noticed that most in the sales thread give the dress measurements in cm. 39 inches is nearly 100cm, and I havent seen a dress over 90cm yet.

There are so many dresses that accomodate your bust size. In the Plus size group, the IW library just sold that stretched up to 120 cm. Generally, if you're a sweet lolita, all of AP's fully shirred pieces will easily fit you.

For Gothic/Classic, you'll have to hunt a little, but it can still be found.

Not the anon you're responding to, but if she only shops at mall bra stores, she's not getting the full story. It wasn't until some internet research and braving the bra section at higher end department stores that I found my real size, 32G, when I thought I had been a 34DD for the longest time, because SURPRISE! Victoria's Secret only wants to sell you a bra from their store. No wonder I was always disgusted with my breasts and the way my bras fit.

Sew. Buy from Europe/UK on the comm sales. Buy old cheap dresses from MBok and have the SS mark the package down, then pray it doesn't get lost in the post. But mostly sew.

Don't buy from Taobao unless it's something you can't get elsewhere; buying in bulk will incur huge customs fines and small orders will still be expensive to ship. I bought some fabric there that was about £1.20/yd (3 yuan per fat quarter), and ended up paying almost £20 for 3yd. Don't buy from the US/AUS on the comm sales either.

Assuming you're talking out of your ass and have never seen this piece in person because that set is fine, I own both the JSK and skirt versions and the material is nice. Only real complaint I have is that the bodice of the JSK isn't cut for any kind of boob at all so even with B-cups it fits a bit oddly, but it is a halterneck so I expected a bit of weirdness. The embroidery/lace is very nice. I usually take the brooches off though.

why are you so set on bodyline? you should see if you like anything from clobba, and then go to the taobao shop and just get them to ship it to you. it will probably be close to the same prices as a bodyline dress. also, dresses this simple can sell for even cheaper on auction.
