Saw this on Facebook and the amount of irony in it is overwhelming. Yaya stated in episode two of Heroes of cosplay, that a cosplayer should take responsibility to know what they look like and pretty much stating and backing up Riki's comment of that not anyone can cosplay anything and that if they do then they should expect the criticism. I just find the whole thing so laughable! Maybe you should take your own advice Yaya!

What are your thoughts on this?!

There are some pretty kick as fan art versions out there.

I think the problem is that both of their outfits take away from the original character, with Monika's poison Ivy is that it was poorly designed and looks terrible. Yaya's looks goes completely against the original Disney character(since the whole group is obviously based on the Disney versions) and is well, kind of trashy looking.

Also the cosplays themselves need bustles like mad. Aurora's kind of has one and Ariel's is SUPPOSED to have one. Things like that, playing with the shape and creating volume (with fabric, feathers, ect), are what would make it more burlesque and less leg avenue on halloween to me.

If someone likes a character and likes a fashion or trend (e.g. lolita, steampunk etc) then there is no good reason why they can't combine the two. That doesn't mean you have to like it, it doesn't mean that you have to agree, but what other people do isn't up to you. No one can say 'oh well this character can't do XYZ by anyone because I say so' and legitimately expect anyone to take them seriously?

That's not to say you can't have an opinion. Personally I agree with the majority of this thread that having one of the oldest cosplayers cosplay the youngest Disney Princess (from the official line up anyway) in such a sexualised version just seems akward. Especially that design. That said, I am open to the possibility that someone might pull off a 'sexy' version if that's their prerogative.

But I really do disagree, on a major level, with calling girls in 'sexy' costumes sluts.

To me that is like saying raven's are black and therefore everything black must be a raven. Which we can all agree is nonsense.

Sluts can, and do, wear sexy costumes. But that doesn't mean sexy costumes make someone a slut. I say that because I've known demure girls cosplay sexy things because it makes them feel sexy and they like that feeling. Or because they really like a design or a concept. And I've known them cosplay full ball gowns and everything in between. I can say the same for girls who have sex a lot or a little.

This use of the word 'slut' whenever a girl shows some skin (and let's face it, the burlesque examples in this thread don't show any more than a pair of shorts and a tank top would) implies that all girls should be inherently ashamed of their bodies and wear as much as possible all of the time because if not they're a slut.

She would go from one to another. She never gives a rat ass to low skilled, unknown, non professional photographers. LOL wow let me clear something up. A lot of photographers were on the 10th for majority of the weekend. The only time people were told to clear up space was for the 501st dinner party that is held every year on Saturday at Dragoncon.
