So far not so good. The MC's of the pub quiz were a lesson in tedium at best and downright unfunny at worst.

And about as well organised as the crystal structure of glass.

Yet somehow, it never stops being fun. Monica Rial's panel today was entertaining even if I missed the start of it.

Give and take. As usual

The only reason I stayed friday is that myself and a few friends had plans to have great fun at the pub quiz. Two of us were very sick and it would have been a great pick me up. It was my first time meeting one of them in person and it should have been great, the only upside is that we're pretty much war buddies now.

Now I felt like I've spent the 70 quid to stay the night for nothing. There'll always be hits and misses at cons but I'm genuinely angry at this. Pub quizes, IMO, aren't that hard to at least be entertaining but this was awful.

First off it wasn't even an anime pub quiz and that's why people go to these things generally. The round labeled "oldschool anime" had more to do with the history of anime than actual oldschool anime, like from the 60s and 70s. One of the only anime related questions in it wasn't technically an anime related question since the answer was "Robotech" which was wrong and oh god did I rage.

There were several wrong answers in the quiz. Like "what animal is Tom Nook", to which we answered Tanuki(his name is a play on it). The quiz answer was racoon. And some questions were vague and badly worded - like "Where was Javere born". I'd seen Les Miserables like 2 days beforehand but they mispronounced the name. I made a vague assumption that might be what they were talking about, but since my attention wasn't directed in the right places, I didn't end up getting it. I doubt anyone did.

They could have had slides for the questions which would have solved a multitude with issues, like the PA system being shit and a lot of the questions not being heard properly(which made everything drag out). And they tried to get us to do the *entire quiz* on one sheet of paper, I'm not shitting you. Eventually they paid up with additional sheets, but it was still awkward as fuck for a while.

The anime Dublin pub quiz was so much better even though it wasn't for a full con. The whole quiz felt like something put together by 9 year olds for 9 year olds. No offense to the hosts, maybe they're nice people but they didn't really know what they're doing and not once did they make me laugh. The least they could have done was read the atmosphere and been self depreciating, or just gotten on with it.

People need to accept that not everyone is a personality. I know for a fact I could have done better because I'm used to being an eejit in front of crowds, and I've been an actual proper performer who's even gotten paid for it once or twice. Even at that, I'd be dubious of my ability to work the crowd for something like this.

It wasn't even in a "pub". It literally had one job. It felt more like it was set in an Italian restaurant with all the spaghetti being dropped.

Not to mention one of the girls doing the quiz, and I realise this is a personal thing, is convinced I'm her stalker(for the most bullshit contrived reasons I won't get into) and it was hella awkward being constantly within 2 inches of her thanks to the cramped room when I needed to navigate to and from the bathroom or bar. Given the drama inherent in the con scene it's probably a bad idea having such a tightly packed space in general. I'm lucky I don't lose my shit or break down like I used to but this quiz really really pushed me.

I feel like a weekend I was really looking forward to has been ruined now and I'm not sure I'll trust pub quizes again. I wish I'd have saved my money for a hotel for Eirta, now I won't be able to afford it.

Why are you asking? Like more than likely your reasons for asking are going to be along the lines of "Is she causing any drama", in which case no. I did realise I mistook someone for someone else like half the weekend though and am slightly embarass about it but nothing really came of it aside from me kind of sassy towards someone who wouldn't get why I was acting kind of sassy.

And yeah that big rant was mine. Most of what I said was the consensus at our table anyway. Our team name was going to be "The Speedwagon Foundation for Kids that can't read good and want to learn to use the ripple"(it marginally won over "Za Warudo God Only Knows") but I think that got lost on them.

Saturday was OK though. On way home now and pretty exhausted. It was a fairly nice quiet con, quite a bit less busy than when I was there 2 years ago, much more managable for the venue. Think a lot of people are waiting for Eirta. Kind of wish I'd have done so too.

It was my first con on estrogen so I was a lot more chill. No panicking or bullshit. Being sick always sucks though. I was sort of high on cough drops and one of my medications was interacting with my estrogen.

>>7075182

There were some good cosplayers actually. The last thing I went to was anime dublin and that was awful cosplay wise.

There was a really good Beatrice cosplayer, some good Madoka cosplayers, The Ice Queen was awesome and a couple of good Pokémon stood out too. The Gyarados always makes me lel.

There were less people this year so less chances for me to see a cosplay of something I liked. But there weren't that many awful cosplays tbh

Also we all "smelt bad" because it was hot as usual and we were sweating constantly.

I'll upload some crappy pictures when I get to Cork. Someone on the train behind me just said "Furries are really scary. They actually scare me." I actually think their costumes are pretty impressive but I don't get on them personally.

bleh, meant to say I kind of wish I'd have done so too in terms of accommodation as I spend €70 to stay that night and I may have been better just coming up for the day.

I enjoyed both the dance events I went to anyway. I was going to play some vidya but you always have to wait too long. Next time I'll have some mulitplayer games for my 3DS. Gonna get some Mayro Kratt and Smash Bros when it comes out. 3DS is king of games.

It's my 3rd year going to nom con and I think it may be my last
Seems to be a younger crowd that go to it and finding less and less panels are catching my interest

Lotta weebos in and around the con which made for some unfortunate shrieking all day but that's not really the cons fault

They had free water around the con and the heat was never a huge problem which was good

Queuing for the Monica signing on Saturday was hella long

Not much selection in the games room whatsoever

Staff were way friendlier and much more approachable than previous years so kudos to them

But as I said I don't think ill be going again as I think it's run it course and they are flogging a dead horse now

I'll agree on the lack of interesting panels. Though, sometimes the only cure for that is to offer to run one ourselves.

For better or worse, the con can only offer the panels that people offer the con. It'd help if panelists actually received a few perks - subject to the panel actually happening and actually having effort put into it.

Drama free pretty much from start to finish, few delays (not terrible ones, mind you), the charity auction was over early, skits were hilarious, some very decent cosplayers, all the staff were helpful and cheerful throughout. some of the panels could have been far better but some of the panels were great, hotel staff were also very friendly, most people I spoke to seemed to be having a great time.
