The AP salopette style doesn't have a name really. The term "casual lolita" will be up for debate, just not here. I'd like to save the thread for just cute "casual" outfits with pieces by AP or btssb, whatever you'd like to call that style.

The handbook? OP here, just curious, is there really a name to the "salopette" style? I would assume that "casual lolita" is pretty acceptable. If I saw her in public I'd assume she was a lolita who was just wearing a salopette because the full petti is a bother.

I'm aware that many people say lolita HAS to have a petti, btw.

Salopettes don't fit into a specific style, it depends on the salopette in question. They're worn in fairy kei quite commonly, especially the ones Angelic Pretty brings out. They can also be worn in otome, gyaru, aomoji kei... loads of different styles.

Perhaps it doesn't actually have a name. Did you ever think that perhaps every single look in existence hasn't been given a neat little niche name? People can tell you what it is not, but perhaps not what it is because sometimes clothes are just clothes and not every single look needs it's own fucking category.

Looks like you woke up on the bitch side of the bed this morning.

Not that anon, but it looks a bit more otome(inb4 people saying "EVERYTHING NOT LOLITA ISN'T OTOME!!!") the jacket and shoes make it more otome than lolita. Plus salopettes aren't lolita, no matter what brand they are.

>> No.7072574

>>7072544
because not everything needs to have a label put on it, and weirdly enough, not all fashion styles fit neatly into categories. If you want to get technical, it would fall under the aomoji kei umbrella. It actually could fall under otome kei too. Hell, you could probably wear that outfit with a gyaru look if you did the make up and hair to fit.

There's a difference between 'lolita-like' and actually considered lolita. The shape is pretty much the biggest and most basic thing in lolita, the thing that is the same through all the subtypes. Salopettes don't have that so they are not true lolita.

You do know that casual lolita is a specific style, right? Not just "well this is a cute outfit that kind of reminds me a bit of lolita because it's got burando pieces". As silly as it sounds, it still has to follow the lolita silhouette to make it lolita. And yes, two styles can cross over, but no, that doesn't mean that everything can be called 'casual lolita'. Regarding otome, there is a fair bit of crossover, but while most casual lolita can also be otome, most otome is not casual lolita. I feel that >>7072956 is casual lolita, as the skirt has the right silhouette. There's a lot of volume in there. >>7072934 is more towards the otome side of things, and considering it's MILK brand it's more likely to be otome, however the skirt does have a fair bit of poof to it, so it could be considered casual lolita too. Although overall, it does have that much more otome 'feel' to it. Lolita is a weirdly strict fashion, it's not a big secret. So calling everything with a skirt and slightly frilly 'casual lolita' just seems really stupid to a lot of us because it's an actual style already. It's like if you called all Asian people as 'Chinese' just because "well you all kind of look the same" (yes, an extreme example I suppose)

>> No.7073039

>>7072678
>>7072930
The first thing is that it has to have the lolita silhouette still. The silhouette is what defines lolita as lolita. After that, it's a bit more of a difficult thing to explain. Basically it's just toned down, every day wear. Usually has a lighter petticoat, simpler cardigans rather than frilly boleros, often a cutsew rather than a blouse (or a less fussy blouse), a lot less accessories (no big hair accessories, not as many things clipped to your head etc.), more than likely no wigs (or at least natural-looking wigs)... it's not really a separate substyle in the same way "sweet" or "gothic" are, it's just toned down things you can wear every day. I've also noticed that people use a lot more every day regular high street store items in their outfits, although the main piece (dress, skirt) are always from a lolita store.

It's a pretty old otome coordinate. Do you know what otome outfits looked like in the mid 00's? Do you understand that what constitutes an otome outfit is a lot looser than even a casual lolita coordinate? Plus purists will stick to specific brands. Girl's not even wearing a petticoat. I can see how this may look similar to what meta releases in summer lucky packs with the cutsews and skirts, but this is more recognisable to me as otome than lolita.

This is true. Otome has a set of rules, too. They do have similar aesthetics, and some things do cross over.

Pic related, some otome. The silhouette is similar, but this is definitely very different from casual lolita.

>this is more recognisable to me as otome than lolita.
Then that's your opinion.

Instead of bitching about it, post things that you consider casual lolita. Contribute instead of making a toxic environment.

I'd like to add that the image jane marple promotes, is yet again different to ETC, which again is different to milk. They all have distinctive unique styles, but are altogether otome, not lolita.

I have been contributing, I'm not the same anon who has been 'bitching' earlier, just presenting my POV. I'll go back to posting some more casual lolita.

Eh, it's passable. You should really stop complaining. It feels like you're just here to argue.

If you want to contribute something, instead of "correcting" people here and there, post something that you feel qualifies as casual lolita. This thread isn't for arguing, it's for sharing ideas. Maybe something isn't entirely "proper", but it has elements that may inspire someone.

tldr; Get off your high horse. Less bitching, more posting.

I'm so confused. Are we posting casual lolita, or otome, or salopettes, or just cute outfits, or what?

>> No.7073226

Otome:
>Otome is a Japanse fashion style that focuses on looking girly and maidenly. The style was popularized in the 70's and has much overlap with Lolita and is one of the styles in which Lolita has its roots. Many Otome brands release dresses that can double as Lolita dresses, and many Otome coordinates are often mistaken for Casual Lolita, due to their similar aesthetic with less emphasis on accessories and extreme amounts of details.

Casual Lolita:
>Casual Lolita is simply a term used to describe an outfit that is toned down for more casual wear. They often favor cutsews over blouses, petticoats without a lot of poof, and minimal accessories and styling. Many times tee-shirts with cute, Lolita appropriate, prints are worn with Lolita skirts to make a Casual Lolita outfit.
>Casual Lolita is often confused with Otome because the styles can overlap a bit.

>The style is casual, and cute.
>Your inspiration is Alice Deco à la Mode and Kera.
>Casual adaptions will look different depending on which Lolita style it's based on (Ama, Gothic, Classic, etc).
>The color scheme range from neutral shades to pastels.
>Small amounts of lace, frills and ribbons.
>Non-Lolita brand clothing is very often coordinated into this style.
>Headdresses include style-specific ones, but are kept simple.
>Simple cardigans are worn, often decorated with ribbons or small amounts of lace.
>Simple cutsews and t-shirts, sometimes with a Lolita-related print.
>Items such as turtleneck sweaters can easily be incorporated for a classy feeling.
> Skirts are simple with frills, or a specific print to make the outfit pop.
> Skirt length is standard knee-length to shorter skirts.
> The Lolita silhouette is normally kept by a pannier, but is not always a priority.
> Knee/overknee socks, or tights.
> Simple Mary Janes or suitable non-Lolita shoes.
> Accessories include style-specific ones, but are kept simple.
> Bags are usually kept simple, often adorned with a ribbon.

Casual lolita, or just cute casual shit with lolita stuff in it.

Not so much focus on otome, though they do overlap so it's not a big deal if it's posted.

Basically, something a lolita could wear her clothes/accessories with that is more casual.

That's some snobby girl with a lamp post up her ass. Ignore her.

Though you should really try the sites in the sticky if you want to learn about it. HelloLace is probably the simplest to start with. Google is nice if you know the name the style.
