Hi /cgl/!
Let's have a hair cut thread - long, short, medium - whichever ones you like. Ones that would work well with lolita or jfashion are great too!

What frustrates me about searching online, is that all I see is either fully styled or curled hair, so you can't really see the cut, or it looks awfully dated.
Unfortunately, all I have saved are styling tutorials.

>> No.7069910

I need new ways to style my tailbone length hair! It doesn't take hairspray or heat styling too well since it's too heavy. It stays for the first 10 minutes and then fails.

Hair sticks will be your friend
Theres a heap of neat ways of doing it - try search "figure 8" or "infinity bun" & "nautilus bun" (my fave)

I'm sure going through the Long Hair Community will give you more suggestions at the length you're at than any CGLs would.

Is there any way to save my long hair or should I just give up?
It's quite obvious a bob would look a lot better on me. Is there any sort of layering hair cut that would allow me to have long hair without looking like a slob who didn't brush their hair for two weeks?

>> No.7070013

>>7069994
Is this after you brushed your hair? Because it looks like you intentionally mussed it up for volume.

I think it looks good like this, personally. If you don't feel like doing a bob, trim the ends if you find they're dry. Moroccan oil is really good for frizz - just use a teeny tiny drop and apply it with your hands all over your hair, then brush it through.

>> No.7070020

>>7070013
No, I just brushed my hair for the picture, 20 seconds before this was taken.
That's the whole problem. My hair doesn't stay in place for longer than the brush movement itself.
I'll try the Moroccan oil, thanks for that tip. I'll see if it works.

>> No.7070053

>>7069994
Just cut it off, I'd say. After you do that, olive oil and coconut oil on the ends keeps it from getting dry. Your hair looks like it needs at least a few inches off.

Eurgh, I need advice.

My hair isn't particularly thin, and to be fair there's a decent amount of it. What it is however is extremely fine, and the result is that my hair snaps off unbelievably easily. It is every literally week that I am having to pout VEET and bleach down my plughole because I keep clogging up the drain with great masses of hair. Every week my hairbrush has already accumulated a great mass of hair. THERE IS SO MUCH HAIR DOWN MY DRAIN.
You would think that by this point I would be partially balding, but surprisingly I'm not. I do however have a lot of split ends.
I don't think this is down to damage because my hair is all natural and I rarely blow dry or straighten it, and when I do I do use a heat protection.

Does anybody know what I can do to strengthen my hair? Seriously, every time I lose a single hair I look at it and I think "Fuck.... that hair must have been like 5 years old, and I just snapped it off". It's depressing.

Picture unrelated, but beautiful hair x __x

Don't shampoo it so much. Only do so when you are really dirty or a simple rinse and conditioning isn't enough. Even then, shampoo only your scalp. Don't shampoo it more than every other day at most.

Condition your hair, though. The most at the ends, least at the scalp. And switch between two different conditioners.

You can also get strengthening product to put on it before bed.

That's all I've got for you. My mom has the same problem and doing that stuff has helped her hair stop breaking off so much.

I have no volume and I hate using products, and living in a place where it's cold most of the time I end up wearing hats and beanies just to not freeze to death. I really wanna get a fringe now, but not sure what kind either. Get an edgy bob. Depends on your face shape as well but if you have really thin and flat hair it's probably best not to go for long hair.
An asymmetric fringe is better if your face isn't too symmetric.
Getting a super symmetric fringe will lead to your asymmetric face standing out as fuck if you have one.

So, my wedding anniversary is coming up and we're going to a really swish restaurant we went to the night after we got married. I plan on getting dressed up of course, dress, heels, the works (which isn't really the norm for me). My hair is in the halfway process of growing. It went from a pixie cut with shaved sides to where you see it now. Thing is, I want to have something really pretty done with my hair, an updo or some style. I'm not looking to get it cut obviously, just maybe done up by my hairdresser.

Looking for some ideas for this length hair, keep in mind it's naturally curly (straightened in this picture) and has a lot of layers from the previous choppy pixie cut

Thanks in advance!

I spent my last dime getting what was supposed to be a trim and layer touch-up from a girl at a hair school that was HIGHLY recommended to me by a girl I thought I could trust and the lady botched parts of it even with her teacher standing directly behind her watching. One section was really chunky/choppy towards the back and right side, shorter in others and smooth layers almost entirely on the left side. The school made me sign a waiver before getting the cut and despite my trying super hard and pitching a fit, they would not refund or fix my hair.

I managed to at least make it look a little less obvious that it got super fucked up by myself. I got all the layers the same length now, and blended out the chunky bits as best I could and cutting the smooth ones to make them a bit chunkier to match the other side. It looks a lot better now and matches up more than before, but it's still not great.

If I leave it curly it looks fine, but my work tends to get bitchy if I don't style my hair. I have the kind of natural curls that are always in a cool looking messy style, but my work doesn't appreciate it. They want it smoothed and straight so it's "well groomed". Clips and stuff are deemed "childish" and not allowed.

It's a short bob at this point, so I don't really think I have many options of dealing with this until it's long enough to get a better cut. Maybe flipping out the ends or blow drying it straight at an angle to make the layers kind of sweep in a direction to hide the choppiness?

TL:DR: Fucked up hair, how to grow it when I NEED to style it. Any ideas would help you guys, I've got no clue what to do with this shit until it grows out a bit more.

Where the hell do you work? Are cute berets permitted? Since you provided no picture, it's really hard to know what will look good. Flipping the ends out is usually a good way to distract from the rest of the head, so I'd go for that.

I wanted to do a gray-ish/brown color to my hair. Would that be a good combination to my warm/medium/olive colored skin tone?

Also are mushroom cuts /cgl/?

I have curly hair (not corkscrews, but more than wavy) and HATE putting product in my hair because of that greasy/wet look it always gives.
I use Bumble and Bumble's Curl Conscious Nourishing Masque 3-4 times a week. You put it in after shampooing, let it sit for 10 minutes (I usually wash the rest of my body, shave, etc. during this time), then rinse it out. I also use a few drops of coconut oil to smooth out my frizzies while my hair is damp, then let it air dry.

It's a shitty little clothing store, and no, they aren't. Boss won't let me wear berets, hats, headbands, bobby pins, or clips. The only reason anyone is allowed to use hair ties is because it's Texas and otherwise our hair would be plastered to our foreheads and neck from sweat and that would look even worse. If I had any other options I'd quit in an instant cause this is some major bullshit, but it's the only place that I've found in two years that will work with my crazy class/study schedule.

I'll toy around with flipping out the ends. I couldn't do a picture because I don't have any camera around but it's kind of similar to this picture only a tiny bit longer.

I use either Suave's keratin infusion leave in, Nexxus' Frizz Defy cream, or Tigi's split end leave in conditioner.

Some of them dry hard, but if you crunch them out after it looks really natural and smooth and shiny. Not a bit greasy either.

Does anyone have any sensible styles for shoulder length hair.

Alright, I'm working on my first lolita coord. It's going to be egl, leaning towards aristocrat.
If it helps, it'll be a shirt with a built-in jabot, a corset skirt, black socks, black shoes. It's really basic (So I don't fuck it up)
But I'm stumped on my hair. My natural hair is dark brown and reaches to my mid back. What sort of style and headpiece would be good for that type of coord? I want something more on the elegant side of lolita.
I'm not opposed to wigs, either, but if I can I'd like to use my natural hair.

I got my hair cut... This was the result. I told the stylist a textured and layered a-line, keep the front length as long as you can, with a side bang. This is what I got. I don't know how you make the sides so uneven and fuck it up this much. But you apparently can. I don't want to go back and deal with having them recut it. My hair grows fast, so I'll get it fixed in a couple months so I don't cut it even shorter. I'm wondering what I can do to help hide how big of a length difference there is in the front. When I pull it behind my ear, it looks kind the same, but I hate having my hair behind my ear. Any suggestions? This fucking blows.

To explain the lines: The red and green are the two different lengths that my hair now comes to. The blue is where my bangs hit when I don't push them to the side (I asked for them to be an inch longer than that).

Ugh I hate my hair. Its about 2 inches past my shoulders and incredibly thick. If I put my hair up and don't set it in the right spot I get a headache. I'm debating on getting it cut pixie again but I like having more than two styles to my hair.

I've got a similar problem, though my hair is pin-straight. Everyone I knew told me not to cut my bangs because it would make my face look really short. I played with faux-bangs probably for 6 months before I got my bangs cut- not the clip-in, but the side-part pinning. Finally I was like "fuck it" and told my hair stylist to cut them. I started out with a longer side-bang but now I tend to rock the fuller shorter bangs. It's all in how you cut them! I'm not sure about wavy hair (you'd have to straighten them every day) but I definitely feel more confident with bangs. Good luck! and remember- it's just hair. If you hate it, you can grow it out.

What's the best way to get a gradient/ombre effect with dye when you're going over already really light hair? I want to try out some purple or blue on a couple chunks but every guide I've seen on Youtube is the dip dye stuff where the girls end up with that harsh line that would look horrible on my short hair (it's a bob).

I was thinking a wide toothed comb and slowly going through the hair higher and higher might work, but is there a better method? Maybe backcombing the dye up the hair?

Buy clipins or play around with parting your hair differently so shorter layers fall over your forehead.

>>7082955
Couldn't you dye the bottom of your inner layers so it looks like its transitioning smoother?
