Kumoricon is next weekend. Who's ready?

Finishing my costume tomorrow, it's kind of scary thinking that the con is only 6 days away.

I'm practically starting my costume today. First time cosplaying, here I go!~

>> No.7062043

Still working on both of my costumes. I'm hoping to finish both props tomorrow.

I have to make a RPG-7 which is literally gluing pipes together and spray painting them. But besides that I'm done.

I still have to finish a vest and shorts for my cosplay, but it won't take more than a day or two.

Got a shitload done today, hopefully should be done by tomorrow or Tuesday. I told myself I wouldn't wait until the week of...

I spaghetti'd out and missed last year's meet up but would like to make it this year. What usually goes down at them?

Shit, I wish I could go but I'm just too broke. The kicker is that there's a good chance I'll be starting at a new job literally the next day. Ah well, I guess there's always Rose City Comic Con.

This.

I'm going to be finishing up my costumes either tonight or tomorrow. I was hoping to have a bit of spending money for this con, but the chances of that happening are slim. I do get paid on Friday though, so there is some hope. I bought a badge specifically to buy some merch and I will be darned if I'm not going to put it to use.

Last year's Kumo was my first /cgl/ meetup.
At first when people started showing up, everyone just kind of introduced themselves - if they tripped, who they were cosplaying that weekend, whatever.

Then some more recognizable people showed up, who'd been in the community longer and all knew each other.
The meetup kind of split up into a couple groups. One that left to grab dinner or party, the other that stayed in the lobby and just hung out.
Was pretty chill. Met a few cool people, made a couple friends. Definitely worth going to if you're free.

>> No.7065037

which day will be the busiest of Kumoricon?
I want to take my friend there, just during the day and show him the con culture since he's never been to a con before.

>> No.7065058

>>7065037
Day 1 / Saturday is generally the day everyone busts out their best cosplays of the weekend.
Day 2 is close, but not quite as impressive, while day 3 is pretty quiet in comparison.

>> No.7069056

I'm KINDA panicking? Feel like I have a lot left to do for my cosplays, but at the same time don't feel like I need to perfect everything for Kumo. Not saying I'm half-assing some parts but.. ok maybe. I promise to fix them for Sakura-con, I swear

How's your guys' progress going?

>> No.7070762

How many cosplays are you working on? If it's a lot, don't be afraid to drop one so you can spend more time on the others.

You don't have to try too hard to be among the upper-half at Kumo. This con is well known for mediocre and bad cosplay, though there have been more good, decent, and a few godtier quality ones that have shown up. I agree with what >>7070762 said.

Anyway, about the meet up. Should it be late afternoon on the first day?

First time on this board, I looked on /a/ and /jp/ first, but no luck. Day one was great, I picked up a Street Fighter sidebag and a Team Gurren flag. Tons of Shingeki No Kyojin cosplayers, they were awesome. I went to the FUNimation and AMV contest panels, both were great. Afterwards, I went and had a lobster pot dish at Joe's Crab Shack at 9 before coming home. I don't suppose anyone knows when the AMV's are going to be uploaded or if someone recorded it?

Also I was wearing an Everfree Northwest shirt if anyone happened to notice.

So Kumoricon's gonna be four days next year. What do you guys think?

>> No.7079758

I'd rather they get an actual convention center with some room than add an extra day.

>> No.7079759

>>7079661
As if their content isn't stretched far enough as it is. Kumoricon is already one of those "hang out with friends for free" cons where buying a badge doesn't make it any more fun at all, and adding another day isn't going to change that.

>> No.7079778

>>7079758
I've only been to Kumo in Vancouver, what was the Portland location like? The park is kinda nice but I'd definitely choose an actual large building over it any day.

>> No.7080071

>>7079778
I heard that people liked when it was at the Doubletree near Lloyd Center. I went when it was downtown though and it was awful. The actual con area was tiny and there was barely any programming.

>> No.7080105

>>7079661
I think they really need to find a new venue before trying to play the big con's game, but I missed it this year so I don't know if they had too many panels/events this year to make another day a viable option.

>>7080071
The Doubletree was nice because it had the huge park for hanging, plenty of decent hotels minutes away, and the mall for iceskating + food.
I have no idea about how the programming was, since it was my first con and that was years ago.

>>7079778
The Hilton + Executive tower was pretty bad. Problems with the staff and unprepared (even though there were announcements sent out) food service the first year was bad enough, but the location was just too small and there really wasn't anywhere to be unless you were in a panel room.

>> No.7080165

I feel like the only thing they really needed to fix this year was the wait to buy a pass. I forgot to preorder mine, and the line to get them on the first day was TERRIBLE. Last year, I remember 0 problems- I was able to walk in, 10am on the first day, wait for maybe 5 minutes, and buy a pass. Had to wait until the line died down at like, 4pm this year. Was really fucking stupid

>> No.7080823

Also what was with all the Ambulances? There were at least 4 that came by to pick people up during the con. Are people jumping off railings and shit? Did all the SnK cosplayers try to kill each other?

>> No.7080836

>>7080105

>> No.7080837

I don't know about at the con itself, but there was a drowning in the Columbia Sunday night. Were there EMTs being called to the rave again?

>> No.7080840

I like where they moved the exhibitors hall to this year, and the Oxfest (day 3 music festival in the park) attendees seemed a hell of a lot more welcoming than 2011/12.
Looks like Choji never found his armor, though.

>>7079661
It's a cool idea, but I don't think they're big enough, or have enough content to really pull a full, 4-day con.
Seeing that I'm planning on retiring every last one of my cosplays this year, I'd feel pressured to get two or three new ones by then.

>>7080823
I heard one was for someone who almost drowned at the Red Lion pool - which may explain why it was padlocked closed for day 3.
The other ones were most likely heat stroke, but I don't know.

A few people were trying to blame it on poisoning in the water pitchers. I heard about the drowning but nothing has been confirmed for the drugging. Someone is trying to make shit up for drama's sake and it's really pissing me off. So many rumors were going around as to what happened and I think it was just that one guy in the river.
Also what the fuck was up with that small group of bitchy SnK peeps??
Other than that it was super fun and a bunch of my friends went.

>> No.7081368

>>7080823
I swear I counted nine firetrucks that went by during the con. Four or five ambulances too.

>>7079661
I think the con would be a little better if it was Friday, Saturday and Sunday instead of Saturday, Sunday and Monday. That way, our con won't clash with Oxfest. I know there isn't a lot to do on the last day anyway, but that concert (even though it's for a good cause) takes up the whole park. All the cigarettes are pretty irritating too.

I say this out of respect for the concert too. They wouldn't have to put up with us cosplayers derping around their tents and equipment. Might ease some of their stress too. I heard the glomp circle decided to "freak out the normies" by setting up right in the middle of the park, right where Oxfest was operating.

>> No.7081400

>>7081368
I really agree with the date change. I've heard of both parties having issues with each other, so why doesn't Kumoricon just shift the dates by one day? I haven't heard a single con attendee say they enjoy the concert. To me that'd be nicer than extending the whole con by a day.

>> No.7082066

I didnt realize how badly I was going to hate flower crowns until this con. Some people on this board had complained about them before, but I thought it wasnt popular enough to be taken seriously. I was wrong.

I swear on my life that almost everyone had one of those dumb things on. I cringed every time I heard someone saying that they wanted one. now, they look really cute on lolitas and stuff, but they take away from cosplays. Seriously, ive been collecting photos from the con and more than half of my album has flower crowns. I hope so bad that this trend dies down before my next con.

Last year as its first year, was small as fuck - 300 attendees.
There were a small handful of amazing costumes, though most everyone just did more casual cosplays and hung out all day.

If you're under 18, it'd be pretty boring since there weren't really any panels during the day.
However, everyone went to things like the Swimsuit Competition and especially the Maid Cafe.
The hotel staff were the most chill people I'd ever met, and a few people who were supposed to "keep an eye on us" were just partying with the con attendees.

In all, go in with little to no expectations in terms of cosplays, panels, or guests. Last year was solely a "hang out, meet people, and chill" kind of con.

Pretty much this. You might feel a little bored or left out if you're not going with friends, but on the other hand as long as you're not a chode you can probably find someone to hang out with. But yeah, expect to be drunk pretty much the entire time if you're doing it right.
