If there's a character who has a kimono like picture attached, one with lots of patterns on it...would it be okay to just use a different fabric that's similar in colour to make it since finding an identical fabric may be difficult?

If you can spare the money and it's not black (since it prints like shit) you could try making the fabric design yourself in Photoshop and getting Spoonflower fabric for it?

For something like that you'd have to find a fabric with the base pattern then paint the flowers over it.

Different anon, but would getting an airbrushing setup look better? Or silkscreening? Just painting fabric paint right on it would look one, shiny IMO and two, thick and like it isn't even part of the fabric.
