She was a judge at the cosplay competition in my country once and I had no idea about who she was. I just thought she looked like an awesome cosplayer back then, but now I've seen on on HoC and I really don't like her attitude.

I can understand where she's coming from with not wanting everyone to just look at her tits, but if you're gonna hang them out, people will look. Just because they comment doesn't mean that they only care about tits. Then again, I don't think anyone should take themselves very seriously, so I'm biased.
I didn't know about her before browsing /cgl/ and after knowing who she is I'm still apathetic. Let her do what she wants. Should she be put on a pedestal for being good at something? Not really. But if she wants to throw herself out there in the public eye like she has been, people will be critical no matter what she does.

I think trying to copyright that nekomimi shit is unnecessary and HoC is a fucking fool's errand, but I don't care enough to have feelings stronger than half-assed disapproval. Like, whatever, man. It's fucking costumes.

I agree with just about everything you said except the boob part and that's only because her tits are the focus/centerpiece of every single costume she does. Every single one shows tons of cleave and it's obvious she picks costumes based on which show the most. In practice, that's fucking cool, who cares? You paid for them titties, show them off.

Once she started to get popular for her costumes, she got a boob job to help out her career. So it was more of an investment type thing. Since then she's gotten a bunch of modeling gigs and more popularity and stuff to sell more of her costume stuff. So it was kind of a good move on her part, I guess. It seems to have paid off for sure. As opposed to Ivy Doomkitty who apparently got a boob job but hers just look like big fat lady boobs and don't help her stand out.
I don't care too much that they're fake, though. I just wish she'd stop flaunting them and then becoming offended when people notice them. One or the other. Not both.

I don't really know Yaya on a personal level, but have been a fan of hers since I found her images online once upon a time. Even if her personality may be gross according to others, the craftsmanship in her costumes is still rather admirable and I hope one day I could be able to put that much detail and whatnot into my own.
But she does have a good online presence. She seems friendly via her Facebook and the like. Haven't seen her on TV yet, and I'm not really sure I want to, but she doesn't need to be the 'ambassador' of cosplay. That's like me becoming the ambassador of math because I do a lot of math problems really well. I didn't invent math and don't speak for all people who do math, the same way Yaya shouldn't for cosplay. She was also nice when I met her at her booth a few years back at AX, but of course she is nice at her booth. She's trying to make sales, lol.

But all that aside.
I heard rumors about her fiancé making a bunch of her costumes? Is this true? I know he does a lot of her photography, but many cosplayers have their own photographers and that's not a big deal. But if he's making all her costumes or big chunks of it... that's a whole other can of worms.

OP if you're just dealingwith her as a judge, she's fine. she asks good questions about how you made stuff and is generally pretty hands-on. one of the better guest judges i've dealt with in general.

Speaking of judging, like... have contests changed a lot in the past decade? Because watching the show and them being 'judged' just by doing their walk was totally foreign to me. I am used to waiting hours to stand in front of judges behind the scenes for them to look at my shit and then ask questions, THEN walk out in front of the crowd which would mean the judges basically already have their choices made at that point.

I love how every single thread has at least one of these types of replies and there's never anything else to back it up with. Why has not liking someone automatically devolved nowadays to being a "jealous h8er"? I mean, it's as if people have completely forgotten that it's possible to loathe someone based off of what they say (or what they don't say) and how they carry themselves. What, now someone can't hate someone based off of their personality? I've gone to cons and seen the woman there, throwing bitchy glares at a group of girls that were getting their cosplays fawned over while she was stuck at a booth. Who wouldn't hate someone like that? She alleges that she's all about bringing a community together, yet she's completely willing to be a total hypocrite.

She's been noted to have been a bitch at cons. You can take what people say with a grain of salt, if you'd like. No one will fault you for it.

Not to mention the copyrighting cat ears/wings bullshit, how she treats her fiance, and her cosplays; Those are all things that put people off. Who honestly wants to deal with someone who gets a completely elective, cosmetic surgery for no reason other than to garner attention, creates costumes centered around said asset, but then goes on tirades and BITCHES endlessly about the attention received? And, believe it or not, not everyone hides their bitchiness. Some flaunt it and some actually DO say what's on their mind, to other's faces. However, it's your tact and timing that matters. I don't really care much about Yaya one way or the other. I don't follow her Facebook page. I won't watch her tv show. I don't care if she files cease and desist orders that are complete bullshit or legally valid. I don't care about her boobs. I do, however, get a lot of entertainment and amusement out of watching her white knights and haters duke it out on /cgl/ and other places.

I did meet her once about two years ago when she and several other cosplay models were attending a local con. I spoke to her a bit at her table and she seemed polite enough, but when I had moved on and started to talk to another cosplayer who was being super nice and engaging me in conversation, Yaya piped in with some catty comment in response to something I said that made her seem like the popular girl in high school that doesn't like it when you come to her table at lunch and talk to her friends. Umm HoC is a reality tv show. To promote it the participants have to be edgier. Otherwise it would be just a snoozefest. You can't draw too many conclusions from it as it's all edited and to an extent scripted to make it more entertaining. Of course there's going to be somebody playing the "heel".
