Also big announcement by Otakon today, get ready for the big move to Washington DC in 2017.

They confirmed the announcement via Twitter. Also there are several news stories about it too. Otakon's agreement with BCC expires in 2017 and received bids from DC and Baltimore for a five year contract. It boiled down to space being the factor and Otakon had concerns with the future of the BCC and the Arena nearby were in doubt. Washington's convention center had more space and they could also utilize the Verizon Arena in the future.

Otakon 2014 is scheduled for August 8-10th

Tripfagging for this thread only.

The con was alot of fun this year. My group went pretty hard on saturday night.

I was with you guys at the tavern on friday night wearing the blue sleeveless hoodie. Talked with the chris chan cosplayer and the jo2suke cosplayer mostly (i know their names but I doubt they want me saying on /cgl/). Then we went downstairs and had some 2v2 pool against somebody else. I forgot the girl's name who was on my team, she was cute. Oh well.

I wound up going again at about 1:20am saturday night cause I wasn't feeling good. That night I was the guy in the yellow venture brothers shirt and jeans. I got to chat with some of you briefly before the bar closed.

Anyway, now that I established who I am, I'll use the next big post for my slideshow (I do this every year in these threads) and stories.

I had a pretty damn good time lugging around my sticks and laptop during the day and dating the waifu at night for the most part.
Oreimo premiere was okay, but I felt like it ended poorly. I wanted to stay for the aftershow Q&A but after brief debate about it with friends that went with me we decided against it.
Poked around the dealers room when I had a chance and didn't really buy much.
The game room was alright, had different games on every tv except for smash and cod. KoFXIII still didn't have unlocks and dlc on, and no tourney for it. Did manage get a few games in with people that brought their stick and had a decent time. Murder the tetris high score by 100k 10mins before the game room closed so I'm happy.
Meetups were really fun, got absolutely hammered friday and saturday I chilled a bit but slept in early.

Had a fun time. I kicked ass at Rock Band, got autographs from Crispin Freeman and LittleKuriboh, and saw the premiere of the OReimo OVAs. The one damper to the entire experience was that I went as MGS2 Otacon to the convention for the second and third day, and I was only recognized by LittleKuriboh.

I feel like variety was lacking with regards to cosplay this year, or maybe I was just unlucky and didn't see a lot of different ones.
I swear every year I see less and less anime cosplay which kind of bums me out.
I was hoping for Chuunibyou and Jojo cosplayers because they're fun to pose with and take pictures.
Home made kazoku was amazing and TMR was pretty cool.
Couldn't see Yoko Kanno because the line on Sunday got capped 10 people ahead of me.
I also found out I'm addicted to pachinko and want to buy a machine.

I had a pretty great time all told actually. Redwood and I found the meet together on Friday night and then I just proceeded straight to the tavern on Saturday. Pool was HILARIOUS both nights. All you guys were great to hang out with and do weird things with, even though I fell off the table a few times trying to do show-offy shots during the game.

The con was pretty great all told too. The Marvel shoot went well, I think, I saw a fair number of the people I wanted to see, and enjoyed the panels I saw and the food I ate.
Hell, I even got over a dozen people recognizing me in Speedball, so I was pretty happy.

Didn't buy much, though. I hate going to dealers at Otakon.

I live in Korea and we have Korean women who do that all the time. They often pull a guilt trip about having kids they need to visit but are dressed like hoochies at the same time.

POS System and scanners were actually improved over previous years. Some network hiccups but the work-flow is smoother.

Simple more people came compared to previous years. We passed 32k members by Saturday afternoon, but the final official numbers take a while to come out.

Head of registration was new, most registration officers were new. Lots of rank-and-file newbies yanked in to cover shortages. A few veterans, but people tend to burn out fast in this department. Sorry man, I tried :(

Yoko Kanno was pretty sweet. However I still do not know what the fuck was up with the shit that they played before she got on in the Simulcast room.

I was disappointed with the amount of nonanime cosplays that I saw this year. It seemed like there were an incredible amount of power rangers, mortal kombat character, etc.

I am glad I did end up coming to Otakon this year. Had a fun time, especially wearing my cosplay (Akumetsu), even if it wasn't completely finished. We went at 7 because the sky was looking so angry. On the way there though the wind blew my top over my head so I got to flash everyone on the street and then it started to rain. Maybe it was the weather or the fact that going later on Thursday is a great way to avoid lines. Even with how much more crowded it was this year then usual I was still in and out super fast like it felt like 5 maybe 10 minutes max. The wrist band line on Friday was crazy though.

Ops was fucking retarded this year. No signage about the kanno ticket system, told people not to form lines early and then let them do it anyway, didn't control lines when they got out of hand, etc.

getting into Voice Actors After Dark was a fucking shitshow, it was basically a free-for-all over the entire fourth floor.

Saturday's concert was at the Mariner Arena, which has a much larger capacity. I don't know exactly why it wasn't used for Kanno, but I'm betting it was because the setup there was incompatible with the awesome video projection effects she had planned for her performance

Around the convention center honestly it shouldn't be too bad. Homeless people tend to just be around the mall or a few blocks away from the mall is more like it. They know tourists are more likely to give them money. Also Black people in DC look down on Black people from Baltimore... Actually everyone in DC looks down on people from Baltimore. Like when they find out your from Baltimore they just kind of say "I'm sorry". I mean we still have hood ass people but for the most part they stay in South East if they're going to be hood.

Also, Yoko Kanno concert was held in a smaller room to begin with.

HMK/TMR were both backed up by a band, and heavily amplified. Yoko did a piano concert, and her style of playing/singing benefits from a lesser degree of amplification and greater intimacy in room layout, so a smaller room was needed.

This was my first time at a con or cosplaying. Did dead/bloody Aradia saturday and Misia from Sound Horizon sunday. I had a fantastic time!

Bad: FUCKING PREREG LINE HOLYFUCK, the hallway across floor 300 was really crowded sometimes, no visuals for Chiaki Ishikawa simulcast, and of course the concert venue's limitedness
