SCG are looking to do something new that hasn't really been done before in the cosplay community.

We don't earn any money from the work we do (which is quite a bit considering we run the FB page, the website and we also put money into the shoots we do, and take time out of our full time jobs to do the shoots and get them edited)
and we do nothing but share around the work of cosplayers of all types.

You don't have to chip in, but I wouldn't say that this is just to 'elevate their own fame' thats not our motive.

Its to help bring the community together. Have you ever been to one of our booths at a convention and spoken to us? Probably not... You'd know that we aren't like that.

We are also already international by the way. We have photographers in various countries.

Feel free to discuss this if you'd like, i'm not doing much today.

- Matthew (Photographer for SCG)

Why do they have to all go to the UK to shoot? I assume that it's going to be each girl gets a month, then a group shot? Well why not have an extra girl to make up the 18 months, do the shoots where the girls are located, and save a lot of money overall. Then when they go to Expo, they can pay for their own flights/accommodation.

>> No.7029795

>>7029774
If you guys have full time jobs, pay for it yourselves.

>> No.7029802 [DELETED]

>>7029793
We aren't keeping it for our own pockets at all, most of it will be used on budgeting for the sets and props for each shoot, the flights, accomodation, ticket prices for expo, larger stall space for expo so people can have free signings etc

The remainder will go on launching our online magazine in which we will try our very best to help share the good in the cosplay community and to keep everyone updated with news, reviews, tips and q&a sessions with different cosplayers.

>>7029794
We are bringing them all to the UK because the idea is to have each shoot with multiple cosplayers, not individuals. It works a lot better for everyone to come to one place, as we discussed whilst spending a few months planning this. We are using two photographers to do the work - Daniel and Martin Wong, both very very talented guys, so its not a case of doing each shoot where the girls are located, because we want the same kind of theme and style all the way through. Hidrico will be retouching all the images as well. Plus, we will be working with Sneaky Zebra on a video Collab which requires the girls to be together...

I can't really say too much more without going into secrets but we discussed with all of the girls together on what would be best to suit both them and us.

>>7029795
Yeah, that makes sense when we all have rent to pay and bills like normal people do. Don't forget, this isn't to boost our ego's or to get us in the limelight, this is to do something that we haven't really seen done properly before!

No one will fucking care even if you go to MCM. MCM no one bothers to get tickets properly and if they do it's only to buy stuff or the masquerade or some select panels.

This is making me angry. Cosplay is a hobby. No one should beg for money for this kind of shit like you are doing. You set it up yourself as it is a hobby and something you do on the side that you enjoy. Do you see any of the Japanese cosplayers starting kickstarters for their photoshoots? No, and they still manage to make some amazing photos.

You are contributing to this current cancer in the cosplay world that tries to make this more than just something people do as enjoyment and making it more about money and fame. If they want to go to MCM, they pay for it themselves just like every other cosplayer who wants to go to another con in another country. They want a good photoshoot? They can contact the photographers themselves and pay for a shoot.

What gives you the right to ask for this when thousands of other cosplayers sort these kind of things out themselves anyway? People who put their own money into this? This is just as bad as that Wild Places thing and you'll probably produce the same shitty results.

Also some of these cosplayers/costumes are so mediocre. Why would anyone pay to have that super generic and lackluster Misty come over from Australia?

This has been a long rant but I am really getting annoyed with these kind of projects.

I am guessing free signings is the only thing you can some up with that doesn't conflict with your idea that
>We aren't keeping it for our own pockets at all

I mean, doesn't every cosplay who owns a booth sell prints (at a price that has a decent profit) and signs stuff for free.

If getting a larger stall for signings your only reason for needing a larger one, don't get it. Save the money towards the shoot.

Why should we help fund your magazine. Most online magazines are unpopular hence why most aren't around anymore.

>we will try our very best to help share the good in the cosplay community

Isn't the page called Sexy Cosplay Girls.....
You only post pictures that are of moderately skinny girls. Please tell me again how this does not imply that if you aren't somewhat skinny, you aren't sexy or good enough for the SCG brand. Oh but you have posted two pictures of larger girls, please tell me how this means you are accepting and diverse in the 99% of your other pictures. What about black cosplayers.... Taken from the actual kickstarter page:

You are probably wondering why we need so much, so I'm going to explain where the money is going.

Flights - The majority of the cosplayers are coming from outside of the UK, and they are bringing a few costumes, extra luggage may be needed.
Accommodation and food - We need to provide accommodation and food for all 17 cosplayers and the crew for a whole week.
Transport - We need to get everyone from the airport to the hotel, and from the hotel to the locations where we are going to be doing the photo shoots.
Location - We will need hire locations for the majority of the photo shoots, and that comes with a cost.
Convention - We will need to provide tickets for MCM Expo for all the cosplayers and the crew.
Production - We need to cover the costs of all the posters, calendars, dvds, collectible cards and t-shirts.
:Please tell me why we are basically paying for everything and everyone involved is getting the free ride. How do I get on with this project?

This and many other recent Kickstarter Cosplay things have me facepalming a lot these days.

When did Cosplay become such a self entitled bullshit machine?

I have no interest in this myself but had a friend who was. She had been following the page for a while and saw the announcement for the project. She thought it would be great. Now that she has seen the final Kickstarter announcement she was disgusted. I honestly don't blame her. Do we not have enough talented copslayers in the UK who would benefit from a project this that wouldn't cost the earth. Why is that people who set these projects up feel that they can get something from this?

Clearly people these days have forgotten the very essence that cosplay is a hobby.

This whole crowd funding/begging for money has me disgusted when there are better causes to send money to. If you want to do something with cosplay. Raise money for charity not to forsake cosplayers for a load of international ones. I'm sure each international cosplayer is good. But do they outweigh what we have in the UK.

Have we not in the past complained of various aspects of a show/movie which we disliked, and wished were done differently? Why not pay someone with the skills we lack the money to make our fantasies a reality?

That's the basis of Kickstarter: A website where many pitch in to commission something they desire, yet cannot obtain on their own.

Regardless, my point is why complain about these guys when unless you choose to donate it has absolutely nothing to do with you? Sure is elitism around here if this is the case.

Fair enough the SCG is a group that is doing a group creative project but my feeling is that its completely over the top when local talent could be used. To me it doesn't make sense and judging by some of the responses I have seen here and of the Facebook page quite a few people would agree.

I'm an older cosplayer who has been around for a while. I knew of cosplay before these kind of projects existed. Do I agree with them? In all honesty, no. Would I knock others for wanting to back projects like this? Nope. At the end of the day its up to people how they spend their money.

Yes, I do feel that projects like this are changing the attitudes of cosplayers in general and quite often not in a good way. I have seen a lot of these kind of projects of late and they have made other cosplayers feel less special because they are not part of a project like this. In many ways they have contributed to the nastier attitudes that some cosplayers have. In some cases it can spawn elitism which I'm not a fan of.

I'm not going rage against the project itself and those who chose to back it. In my opinion that wouldn't do any good. I personally would like to see more projects that involve local talents. Maybe something that does donate to a good cause as well. It is an interesting idea but I don't think its been executed well.

At the end of the day no one can stop projects like that except maybe the copyright holders depending on the costumes the cosplayers do. As long as people can still enjoy cosplay without feeling horrible about it its fine.

There is nothing new about women being objectified by men. Its a shame that most of the females involved with projects like this don't see it that way.

Don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with sexy cosplay. As long as its handled tastefully and within in the character then its fine. Personally, I much prefer to see a well made sexy costume that covers more but shows curves than someone who is nearly naked in a poorly made costume.

So, why haven't they made this a 'UK' calendar and actually used this opportunity to showcase all the UK talent, this just feels like a mess.

We have some very well respected cosplayers here who have won international competitions and travelled all over the world, aren't they the people we want to show off? Not girls who shove their tits in spider man tees and call it a Mary Jane cosplay.

I hope SCG read all this and see that they could really be doing something good for the community if they actually used our talented pool of cosplayers over here, instead of just trying to make money from flying a bunch of nobodies, that no one in the UK will care about, over here... I just don't understand it

Although thinking about it, I doubt any of our good cosplayers here would ever allow themselves to get involved - which again just adds to the shame that SCG have just isolated themselves from everyone else into their circle jerking attention whoring.

.. winning a contest in another country doesn't make it international. Winning one of the large international competitions (ECC, ECG or WCS) makes you an international winner.

Also I'm not sure Sands competed in a competition in France? But I may be wrong. Just don't remember her mentioning that off the top of my head.

And it's alright, I consider myself pretty average. There's only one elaborate costume I'd love to make and I can't afford it. I also lack the drive to make something that is beautiful but from as God awful a film as Snow White and the huntsmen. Laura and Ben had that playing to look up references and I actually wanted to kill myself. Worst film I ever had the misfortune of watching.

Anyway competitions in the UK are awful. Hyper Japan was a complete and utter cake walk for Laura, Ben and Lex. Lex even said "I really should have been beaten by somebody".

Don't get me wrong, if there was ever a worthwhile competition, with say Xae, Tab, Karen, Laura, Lex etc all in it I'd be fucking there with popcorn, but it never happens.

Anyway that's a tangent I suppose. The reason why there aren't more UK cosplayers is simply because it was built around the concept of 'unite'. It just seemed more interesting, I guess. That's about all the explanation I can give being it wasn't my initial idea. That being said, Taby is very talented (one of the UK lot) and Masubi has more elaborate work on her Masubi & Locust page.

>>7029795

Second question biased on response;
Why are you here if you think that "many anon are retards"? why bother attempting humour if "99% of people don't get"?

My point is clear. You do not have to empathize or agree, but your failure to understand the effect you, your behaviour, and your "humour" have in this thread is egocentric.
Furthermore you do not have to agree with me either but, responding without addressing my previous question (which I thought was a fairly straightforward yes/no) will only serve to undermine your attempt at being the "opposite to defensive." or "critical".

People only buy these things to jerk off onto. That's the truth. Cosplay prints and calendars don't get bought by people who want to hang them on their wall to proudly display their interests. They buy them when they want something to catch the semen and they're bored of using plain tissue.

Anybody who believes anything else is simply lying to themslves. I bet they think people read Playboy for the articles, too.

If people want to partake in that and don't mind being seen as nothing more than a cum dumping ground, fine. But don't pretend you're on some noble cause to unite the land. We don't need uniting and even if we did these people wouldn't be the ones to do it.

I’ve been two minds about this Kickstarter ever since it launched.

The negatives.
>The Mission Statement.

Is flawed. It doesn’t work with the product. ‘Cosplayers United’ doesn’t work as a tag line for a product that features only a small percentage of the range of cosplayer that exists. The product is for a very select group of cosplayer so in my mind the tag line doesn’t grab me and in many ways is misleading.

>The end product costs.

In a potential market that has already featured other cosplayer calendars it doesn’t measure up to the other prices/costs. £30GBP is quite a high price for a calendar. That alone doesn’t make it a viable product.

>The costs

While the project does outline the costs I find them to be unnecessary. This project could have been easily achieved on far less expenditure. In turn this would lead to a more viable product which people might be more willing to part with the money for.

>Restriction on the Theme

I do get the theme is ‘Sexy Cosplay Girls’ but with the models that have been selected they are not covering the wide range of what could be considered sexy. I for one love a lady to be wearing well made corsetry and to be reasonably covered so that her curves are shown but there is an air of mystery. I have a feeling that this kind of ‘sexy’ would not be covered and that most models will be wearing tight fitting or next to nothing.

>AI Honey/Spokesperson.

I think its great that she has conviction in the project she is part of but I feel that the way she presents herself is unprofessional and doesn’t set a good image for the product. Judging on how she has responded on here and to other critiques on Facebook she has been very antagonistic. It sparks up more hate which in turn has put people like myself off backing such a Kickstarter. Every creative project, not matter what it is, will have some negative feedback. How the people behind the project respond to the feedback is crucial just as much as the project itself.

On the other side there is a positive and that is that the girls involved get to be part of a project that they are very excited about. I know a few of them and I have seen how excited they are to be part of it. I am happy for them as it has showcased them and made people aware of them through SCG and Sneaky Zebra’s (they are joined them on the video aspect of the project) Facebook pages and websites .

While I am happy for those friends there isn’t enough positives to have me interested in backing such a project. Whether or not they succeed will be in the hands of all those who do decide to back the project.

>>7040741
You can literally apply that thinking to every kickstarter ever. 'Why don't you pay for it yourself?'. Because if we find not enough people care about the concept it will be a waste of time and money? Duh.

And beggars generally don't give a product in return anon. E-begging isn't allowed on kickstarter, that's for sites like go fund me or whatever.

We could probably donate proceeds of profits after the project but I don't see it being a lot tbh. I'd rather do an unrelated charity event.

That's.. the opposite of what I said. Running an actual charity event would be much more work. Donating profits after would be next to no work (which would likely be fine).

Also I dunno why you'd think I'd be getting anything. It's not hooked up to my account.

I don't remember agreeing with Miyu posting as I don't remember her posting. I think Anna's kickstarter was a good idea, it just didn't end up being so cohesive with the thought put into cosplayers, groups and locations. I liked some of the photos, though.

Since I like Anna and I'm friends with some who went there's no way I'd criticise it that harshly.

A single photoshoot would take a few hours. We're doing nine in four days, with lots of people each time. Not including the hours it takes cosplayers to get ready.

If you notice I quote two people. But really just /reading the whole thing and not just the first line/ is your biggest hint anon.

Anyway kickstarters are dumb for charity. Always donate to the source. To say '$27k could do this' is all well and good but it's not one person spending all that, it's a bunch of people spending smaller amounts on what they'd normally spend on superfluous things anyway.

And if we're going to make that argument, the majority spends small amounts on superfluous things. Making people feel bad for that is futile. What is spent on kickstarters would likely never go to charity anyway.

And you are all cosplayers/Lolitas so yes, lots of superfluous shit all around. But as it is, most things in life are.

I agree. No cosplayer should ask others to fund their hobby. That is ridiculous.

Cosplayers choose to dress up and choose what to spend on their costumes. If they can't afford it then they shouldn't be doing it.

Then again, cosplayers these days seem to have become self entitled little shits who feel that the cosplay world owes them something. Does it bollocks! Work on your own costumes and be proud of what you have made. Seeing all these Kickstarters and other crowd funded cosplay projects really pisses me off. So far, their has only been one of those projects that I have felt that was any good.
