cgl has made it clear uncountable times that every girl cosplaying Yoko is just a attentionwhore who barely knows the name of the character they cosplay and are in it just to get men to notice them. Many people say the same goes for Kamina the other way around, and no guy cosplaying him does it for the love of the character.

What else? How do you always expect a cosplayer of some character to act? Is there a character you always want to talk with in every con or one that you run away no matter who is in the costume?

> What kind of generelazations do you have of cosplayers of some specific characters?

>> No.7012555

I run away from all Homestuck cosplayers. Try to avoid all of them. Don't want to get paint on me, or have to sit around and listen to them try and explain why I need to read it. I just tend to turn around and walk away. Don't want to accidentally be rude to someone who isn't crazy--but don't want to be around just in case they are.

Also try to avoid speaking to Dr. Who cosplayers. I've received a lot of backlash for saying I'm not really interested in watching it.

>> No.7012558

Harley Quinn. Rarely in any of her actual costumes or choose the ugliest, sluttiest one if you're lucky. Often some red or black monstrosity the screams for attention.

I can't stand people cosplaying Beatrice, especially since there is at least one in every cosplay contest in my country. They are always chubby cunts who stand in the way of others and bitch to them to not step on their dress because they are ~important contestants~.

On the other hand every Jack Sparrow I've ever spoken with has been real nice and fun guy.

Harley's are one comic cosplay you can absolutely count on to never know anything about comics. They chose her because they like the Joker in theory and want to dress skanky. Not knowing any other comic characters, Harley seems like the obvious choice.

They're generally extremely exclusive at DC gathers and such and wont associate with anyone not related to Batman characters they know (Batman and the Joker, maybe Two Face) not because they don't want to end up in a conversation about comics but because they see Batman TAS and Batman in general as superior to all other comic related shit.

I'd really love to do a Harleen Quinzel cosplay some day, but I hate how badly blonde clashes with my skin tone. Tfw I'll never be the master race.

Everything sounds hard when you put it in the correct words. Like making a sandwich is easy as fuck, but when you describe it as "first you have to get off your seat, walk aalll the way to the fridge, take out the butter, take out the cheese, take out everything you need, then take the bread from the cabinet (and walk over to it), spread the butter, etc etc" you make it sound like gourmet cooking. Yoko is goddamn easy to do if you want to look average while on it.

Now it's a different story if you actually want to make the gun yourself and get the hair CORRECTLY and not just stick on the generic red ponytail wig you got from eBay, and actually bother to do the bootcovers and shorts and gloves AND shades yourself instead of just storebought crap. But I've never seen a Yoko like this unless you count everyone who has a full production team behind them and I doubt I ever will because anyone who actually gives a fuck about cosplay won't do the slutty, boring pre-timeskip suit which is probably for the better.

She was dressed as Harley but only knew her through fanart and montage videos of her funny lines on TAS. So much secondhand embarassment.

I still don't get the Joker love... He's a good terrifying character but not exactly a romantic heart throb, what with the admitted use and abuse of Harley and all. Harley's been paired with so many others (even Jimmy fucking Olsen) that don't routinely try to blow her up that I don't get it.

This is already a thing that exists, and its pretty good and runs for quite some time. Starts off pretty light and silly but gets a pretty twisty plot by the end. I actually cosplay Harley Quinn a LOT and know a fairly decent amount about comics. More Marvel than DC, to be honest. I grew up on X-men and Spider-Man, with some Batman.

As for the exclusionary thing, yeah I can see that after having been to and held DC gatherings/photoshoots. A lot of Harleys DO only talk to other Harleys or Jokers, but sometimes they do so out of "hey, thats a common thing we have" Or a lot of them are just incredibly shy. But there are those that just dress up as her because boyfriend/bestfriend wanted them to or its the 'sexy' costume to wear.

I seriously do wanna cosplay Harley (or possibly Dr. Quinzel, could be fun psychoanalyzing random villains) but waiting until my weightloss/musclegain goal is reached. Girl's got some serious tone, she's a friggin Olympic level gymnast and should look it.

I try not to hang around people who do any entry-level anime or pretty much anything Western that isn't something that isn't part of "Lel Nerd Culture XD." I just can't stand talking to casuals. I understand that they're nice people sometimes, and that I'm just judgemental about it but it makes it hard for me to enjoy their company when everything they're getting excited about is old hat to me. I only approach girls at cons if they're attractive and what they're wearing says they aren't entry-level, because at least then I'll have something to talk about, and with guys I try to at least see if they have something we can relate on.

At this rate I feel like the only way I can relate with anyone anymore is if they are also from 4chan. I get along with tumblr people pretty well though even though I've never gone there.

Christ, the hipster is strong in this one. I've seen/read literally thousands of series and my top twenty still has a few of the first I watched/read that are definitely considered entry level. Believe it or not, some things become crazy popular and thus grant entry level status for a reason. I really have issues with most genderbender and fanart cosplayers because the majority seems to be all about sucking the fanartists imaginary dick or wearing as few clothing as possible.

Most people who cosplay from Sonic seem to be mentally challenged. Maybe it's different in other countries maybe there are exceptions - I have yet to meet any.

Harry Potter cosplayers that are no recognizeable character should better be avoided since they all tend to have an amazing backstory for their OC and are sure you want to hear it.

Totally agree on the L4D survivors- all of them I met have been really nice people and fun to hang out with.

Kingdom Hearts is 'won't even touch with a stick'-tier cause of too many rabid fangirls.

Random generalization: People who cosplay mothers of main characters really seem to identify with this role. Most of them are really sweet and caring.

And man, I am so sad about all the Loki opinions, not only cause I kinda love that character and c(r)o(s)splaying as him as well but because they are way too often true. I will not try and judge my own level of sanity here but I met enough Loki-cosplayers that have some serious issues- which worsens the situation if you are cosplaying as Loki yourself because you try to avoid others, not wanting to deal with another histrionic asshole that wont get you are not friends cause you kinda talked once. And then you are the elitist bitch that can't stand socializing with others.
- then again it's really great with cosplayers of Pepper Potts, you can socialize easily with other Peppers and they tend to be sweet.
Funny shit is Iron Man cosplayers eyeing each other's armors from a safe distance.

As someone who personally did all of the things you said (with the exception of the shades), Yoko can be a difficult costume to make, especially when I did every aspect of the costume without help from anyone, including my dad with all of the wood-working for her rifle.

Pretty much any material people use for her shorts and bikini top is a bitch to work with from the get-go, and then if you're like me and have Yoko-accurate tits, you have to make up a pattern for the bikini top to give enough underboob and support that you can feel comfortable and not worry about it falling off. I dunno if you've ever made a bikini top before, but making them out of a non-stretch material SUCKS. From there is the shorts, which also require pattern-making and a decent amount of work. The scarf isn't terrible because there are a decent amount of tutorials out there, but it still requires time and effort. I didn't make boot covers because I found a pair of boots that I could leather-paint (although I'm not totally happy with them), but once again, painting takes time and effort. Torii sewed in huge-ass zippers for her Yoko boots, which deserves legit props. Making gloves is a bitch and a half as well. Then there's her belt, which as Torii said, you have to hand-stud it yourself if you want it to look right. I'm not completely happy with my wig and I need to mess with it some more, but I poofed up the bangs with curlers and bought a whole 'nother wig to use as the ponytail in order to give it the right poof.

I haven't even explained the effort that goes into making the rifle, but hopefully what I've said makes some amount of sense. You don't need a full production crew to make her costume as accurately as possible, but if you don't go the store-bought route it is not for the light-hearted. I probably spent a good 3-4 weeks on this costume, and I'm going to end up spending even more time because I want to redo various things. Yoko is an awesome character, and I really want to do more of her outfits because the anime is incredible and I love her to bits.
TLDR really long comment about why Yoko can be a difficult costume if you don't go the bought route.

>image related- my Yoko from Otakon. It's nowhere near perfect and I still have things to fix (the strap isn't pink and the wig is a little wonky and the scope isn't the right shape, among other things I could nitpick), but I'm pretty proud of how everything turned out.

Dude, I never ever said any of my shit was perfect, and I don't think it is. I wasn't fishing for compliments or sympathy, I was just trying to say, like the anon before me, that if you actually care enough to put effort in, costumes like Yoko can be difficult if you want them to be. I've only been cosplaying seriously for about 3 years, and there are many things for me to improve upon, and I would be lying if I said otherwise. You don't have to be an anonymous asshole just because you're on cgl.

I wouldn't have even bothered posting a picture of my costume if I hadn't known someone would have inevitably asked, because that's how this shit works.

>complaining about stupid shit that only competition judges would care about

Listen dude, I'm just happy that people attempt to make their own costumes at all anymore.

>> No.7034860

People cosplaying the 14 year old characters from Eva in their basic outfits are attention-seeking ultra-casuals. People cosplaying the adult characters and people who actually bothered to make plugsuits are the total opposite.

School uniforms are the basic outfits. There are exceptions, of course, and you can usually tell who they are by wig and makeup quality. Also, if they're one of the guys, there's less chance they're doing it for attention, but way more chance that they're fujoshi.

I cosplayed Shinji (I'm a chick) with my sister as Asuka and I can confirm that I'm kinda a fujoshi.

>> No.7037292

Aren't most generalizations true like 90% of the time, though.

Like, if I see a Naruto cosplayer wouldn't I be able to justifiably say that they are probably entry-level weebs who are awful people to be around?

Confirmed for good taste. Fujoshi are the chillest Eva fans.

>> No.7037314

A lot of Asuka cosplayers shamelessly identify with the character aka they're whackjobs who think it's badass and assertive to be unnecessarily rude to others

They're all interesting, but since they play on animu character tropes, I find it hard to relate to any of them. They're all more "extreme" than me, I guess. The only Eva character I can relate to is Shinji, and even then, I can't relate to him much.
