Anyways, my main gripe is that all of the girls in the first game are so tall! The shortest girl is at the high end of average Japanese female height (158cm-160cm). I'm not sure who I can cosplay from the series, but I'd like to still.

Chihiro is 4'10", Aoi is 5'2.5", Touko and Celes are 5'4" (Celes looks taller because of her heels) so they're not crazy tall.
Also it doesn't matter as much if you're worried about heights but the rest of your group roughly fits together right.

Off to pick something less stereotypical... although if you guys could throw some decent Junko base sweaters my way that'd be good I'm having trouble finding any cute gyaru cardigans in black for less than $60.

2.) stop making ghetto closet cosplays and actually sew the clothes yourself
3.) you get the kind of clothes you need instead of wandering around stores looking for something that's even the same colour as the reference

sup guys, i'm planning a monobear cosplay in the next few months. considering using and combining a few different designs but i think my main might be this design by stripedpants.
i pretty much know how everything is going to be, EXCEPT how my makeup should be. i was initially going to just go through with my regular cosplay makeup, until i remembered it might be weird, since everything else follows the half split rule.
any suggestions on what i can do?

Hey! I was one of the Monobears posted in the last thread. Honestly, I don't think it's that weird to just have normal make-up. All I did was scar make-up around the red eye to make it the shape that Monobear's is. My advice would be to wait until your costume is done, try it all on with your regular cosplay make-up, then see if you still fee like you need something extra. If you do really want something else, I would say maybe heavy make-up on the black side, and very neutral and soft make-up on the other? Even going as far to use white mascara on your eyelashes might be interesting. Maybe wearing bright red lipstick on the black side, and smearing it? Anyway, these are all just ideas. Play around with it once your costume is done! Just...don't do face paint. Please. I don't think it ever looks good.

This. If you are cosplaying alone then choosing Chihiro or Asahina isn't much of a problem imo and if you have a group then group coordinate for the heights. If there's someone who wants to cosplay Naegi and you two are the same height then it'll look fine, anyone who is taller will also look fine as any characters taller than Asahina if you wanted to do her or Chihiro.

For how big the head needs to be and how small the character's eyes are, mouth vision is best.

I make mascots pretty often, so what I would do is something like this; Get the shape down with upholstery foam (Joannes, Walmart, - get them in rolls, not squares). For really big heads that need structural support, I use carpentry fabric (stronger "chicken wire" mesh) and cover them with thinner upholstery foam, or foam batting depending on what the final fabric will be. The vision area should be cut out of the foam/metal/etc. Then add additional features like the muzzle by carving separate pieces and pinning them first. Attach when symmetry is assured. Then tape-draft a pattern and sew as a "sleeve" for the foam.

The key to these is ventilation! The mouth should be as open as possible! I would recommend the spikey-teeth version of this character, and use a layer of black Tulle/Chiffon to mimic the back of the mouth. Don't put it too near the teeth, but off your face. This will prevent people looking into the mouth seeing you, but also give good airflow. Making the head hollow as much as possible is another one. Having vents - like slots in the inside of the ears - to let out how air is great. Also, cheap computer fans mounted to the inside of the head is great. I prefer blowing how air out, but some people argue that blowing air at yourself is better.

Also, big heads should have a shoulder rest/ padding to sit on the shoulders. Do not put large objects on your head. Your neck will hate you and you might get hurt if people fuck with your mask.

I don't understand all the haters. This looks really good to me. This is a work in progress, so it makes sense that you still have a few layers of detail to add. Good luck with your work! The only complaint I have is that it looks like you used one stencil for all of the flowers when you probably should have used two or three of slightly different sizes, but really, if that's all, then that's fine and dandy. thanks, I really appreciate it! I've been using 3 different sizes for the 4-petal flower, and the orange flower. What we did was that we vector'd teh whole pattern and then resized it to the size it should be by getting the length of the fold on the kimono --> bottom of kimono, then resized all the flowers,chicks, petals, etc.

well the thread is nearly over anyway so im just gonna ask
i was pressured into buying this naegi wig and the kid has stupidly big hair so i think this is kind of flat although im not sure if thats a big deal and another friend said the color is off?
just wondering if i made a bad decision

I feel as though the colour should be darker. It could be more volumous but this wig is pretty alright, there's a difference between doing canon-hair styles and more toned-down realistic styles for cosplay. Idon't think either is bad, especially for Naegi.
