Can we rev up the peeves thread again?

For me - FtM crossplayers who cake mountains of concealer on their lips so they look white. Less is more, less is more!

>> No.6978513

Unstyled wigs. Wigs made of craft foam or paper.

Girls who wear "crossplay makeup" only to have it look like charcoal smeared all over their faces. Also eyeliner for male characters.

Not blending elf ears into your skin.

Asians who cosplay white characters and demand credit for being the best, just because they're Asian.

I'll be back for more.

Not ironing your costume before wearing it.

Not wearing a wigcap.

Gobs of thick black eyeliner.

Not sealing bodypaint.

Dirty old running shoes instead of accurate footwear.

Guys who think makeup means lipstick and eyeshadow, so it is just for girls, and so they don't wear any makeup all.

People using normal hair gel in synthetic wigs.

Homestuck and Hetalia fans. I'm sure some of the fans are normal, but holy fuck, reign in your crazies.

50% of Masq skits being shitty dance numbers, and the other 50% being Old Spice parodies.

Not posing in anyway for pictures.

Blue pants do not always mean blue jeans will do.

Genderbent characters who dress super slutty. I do not care how big your tits are, Captain America would not dress like a hooker no matter what gender he is.

Also if you want to do a female version of a character, especially when it comes to comics, look them up. Most of the time there already is a canon female version of that character and they often do not dress as shitty as you think they should. See: Lady Loki

Not much of a cosplay pet peeve but a photography one. There's this particular cosplay photography group that uses the same white fabric backdrop that doesn't seem to get ironed at all. Each time I've seen it, it's all wrinkled up and I feel bad for the people who pose in front of it. Is it so hard to iron it beforehand?

Fuck yeah I think if he were a girl that vain motherfucker would have a slutty ass costume.

Now don't get me wrong, I get annoyed with genderbent cosplays just as much as the next person but for completely different reasons. They're usually uncreative as all fuck. Even if you're going slutty, less fabric does not mean you get less thought into it.

Why do people not realize it costs money to make things. If I make you something for free I am actually PAYING money out of my pocket for fabric and materials, the lease you could do it cover that. I had a family friend ask me to make her something and I made it (took about 30 hours of work) and I charged her 100 dollars for supplies mostly and she told me I charged too much and offered 80. Oh god thiiiiisss.

I went to a con with my fiance once and he said that all the guys in the bathroom couldn't use the urinals and so were having to form a line for the stalls (and the bathroom was packed) because a group of crossplaying girls (unbound chests, eye makeup, not really even trying all that hard) had decided to use the men's restroom and were taking turns laughing and taking pictures while posing at the urinals. One guy called them out and they got SUPER indignant saying that they were "the characters on the inside". Not men, as in they were trans*, but the characters they were crossplaying. Now I agree, if it's an actual trans* person that's going through the process and putting in all that work to make the transition, then fine, but ugggh. These girls were just entitled brats with absolutely no concern for the people around them and were just using the label of trans* as a poor excuse for their bad behavior. But of course no one called them out on it after they said that because even if they very obviously weren't transitioning (or even crossplaying all that well), no one wanted to be seen as offensive.

I snapped a picture of them after but I can't for the life of me find it. Just imagine your average Hetalia cosplayer.

It's women who you will find judging girls more for their personality (ie calling JNig a fake, a bitch, a bimbo, etc) and why you're more likely to see a guy picking apart looks like calling someone fat, ugly, out of shape, etc.

And if you don't believe that then take a trip to r9k.

Yea that was what made me kind of mad. Because from what I heard, and take this with a grain of salt because the story had traveled through quite a few people before it got to me, the con did actually side with the girls. One of the guys commented to my fiance that he was going to go tell con staff about this (he was also the one to complain to them as they'd apparently been in there a while, needing time for each of them to take pictures, fix their costumes, chat, etc.) but they told him that if they'd told him they were trans* they wouldn't kick them out of the restroom as one of the girls argued that she had just started the transition so just didn't show yet (bullshit).

But I do know that the hotel staff came and kicked them out (and when I took the picture they were loudly complaining among themselves about how "close-minded" and "juvenile" it was that they had been told to use their gender appropriate bathroom) as this was the bathroom closest to the main lobby and thus even though it was mainly con-goers, there were still some regular customers trying to use that restroom.

I must live in an alternative universe then because in my community, being male automatically awards you +10000 points, especially in the prop-making field. When a woman does amazing props, they're strictly judged. When a man does average props, he's the gift from the cosplay gods and holy shit did YOU SEE THAT AMAZING CRAFTMANSHIP

Speaking of crossplay I hate it when men assume they're automatically the best insert anime bishie here cosplayer because they're male, not a crossplaying girl. Mister, if you're cosplaying some beautiful, clean-shaven animu guy and you don't even bother to shave properly or put any goddamn makeup on, you're going to look like shit.

I also can't stand it when a male buys his costume he's always forgiven because "of course men can't sew" or if they're bothered to sew something they get bonus points for their gender.

The saddest thing about this is that the people giving all these privileges to the men in my community are women themselves. I guess they want to "encourage" males to participate in the hobby more. At the expense of unbiased judgement.

I agree about male cosplayers getting away with shit more. It's because people automatically think its a joke because men as supposed to be funny.

For some reason, it's harder for people to think women are being funny sometimes or doing something intentionally. I don't really know why.
If a woman did the same type of "intentionally" shitty cosplay not a sinlge person would think it's a joke even if it is.

Like for example, last year my male friend decided he wanted to cosplay Dirk but he didn't want to actually do any work. So, the day before the con (even though I had told him how to make every piece of this already simple costume months before) he decided to start working.

He couldn't figure out how to use iron-ons so he just printed out the Hat symbol on regular paper and glued it onto a shirt with Elmers glue. Then he cut out glasses using the same printer paper and colored them black with a magic marker. So he could see, he cut round holes into them and taped the paper onto his actual glasses. To finish the already simple ensemble, he brought a wooden katana and put like a squirt of gel in his ginger hair. To make sure people knew it was shitty "on purpose", he wrote "Gof Tear" on the back of his shirt.

I didn't want to be around homestucks, even as someone who read it, so I didn't follow him once he got there, but he said tons of people took his picture and everyone thought it was hilarious. But he did have a lot of pictures of people with him, because people wanted pics with him..because they thought he was funny.

This is usually women as well. If you go to any male dominated board, a lot of the stuff that people here criticize for being out of shape would be fap material. The reason why it gets so harshly judged here is that women are judging off the social standard of attractiveness instead of a personal one, which they usually don't have for other women.

So we're complaining about tumblr fandoms here too? All right, here's mine. I fucking hate it so much when the tumblr fandom collectively makes up some non-canonical story about characters x and y that has in no way happened, but because they like the story so much they slowly decide it has actually happened in the series' canon and treat it as an official story line. Or when a fandom completely misinterprets a character and everyone just goes along with it.

And my current main cosplay pet peeve is when people take "wip" pictures of their costumes that are only a pre-styled basic wig on their head. And it's always like

>10 different webcam photosets of them with the fucking wig and basic clothing
>LOL WIP NAEGI COSPLAY IN PROGRESS #COSPLAY WIP #WIP #COSPLAY #IN PROGRESS #WORK IN PROGRESS #KOSUPUREI #COS #PLAY #DR #DANGAN RONPA #DANGAN #RONPA #D #A #N #G #A #N #R #O #N #P #A

I'm sorry (no I'm not), this just really irritates me because a lot of people who do this also make those horribad non-effort wig equals cosplay-"costumes". Most of the time they never finish the rest of the suit or then they just order the suit from the internet and magically in the next "wip" picture they have everything together.

I saw these two hambeast weebs make "Wedding" cosplays out of two characters, which basically consisted of store bought crap with a few poorly made accessories from the character. It was not a canon pairing, but people in that fandom are too stupid to realize that "implied" does not mean canon, and will go parading around like it is. I've only seen that once but it bothered me sooo much.

I don't really get why Rivaille is so popular. His character arctype always seems to get breakout fandoms. Worse is he has a bigger role in the anime now and his fandom can only get bigger from there. Before I saw SnK tumblr made me think he was the main character. Which is going to lead to some horrific landwhale cosplays where they all look constipated trying to make this face.

I'm gonna go make a manga where the main character is a short twink who looks and acts like they hate the world at all times and has a couple OCD quirks and make millions.

You're pretty much not allowed to say anything negative about anyone who'd be on tumblr. When it comes to people who largely stay off tumblr, that's a different story. You can say all the mean stuff you want and be considered "brave."

And on a more related note, I've noticed that a lot of people tend to boil characters down to their basic elements when cosplaying and largely get them wrong. For example, people have basically taken Phil Coulson from being the straight-man (and occasional badass) in the Marvel Movies and just made him into a Captain America fanboy.

It's kinda like how there's two kinds of Elvis impersonators: those who try to be accurate and those who just caricature the King.

I hate this too, especially when my cosplay buddy just kind of shits through her costume and I'm over here watching and screen capping the shit out of the source, so I can try to see what I'm making from every possible angle to get it just right.

Other peeves include:
- people not ironing or clipping threads on completed work. It's especially annoying when "famous" cosplayers do this shit.
- "famous" cosplayers that buy their costumes and don't credit who made the costume but will bend over backward to credit the photographers they work with
- when I'm with a friend who is also a photographer, who i have set up specific shooting times with and am buying them drinks or something for their time, will STOP in the middle of our shoot to take shots of other people they know.... I guess this is a personal peeve but DAMN it's annoying
- When you're in a private shoot with someone and random strangers keep trying to butt in, or say rude things in response when you say "sorry, I'm busy right this second I'll be free in 15 mins"
- Incessant people trying to get you to stop eating, or talking on the phone, or even in the fucking bathroom so they can take your photo. Usually I'm super flexible, but when I'm clearly occupied with things such as eating, waiting to take a piss, or talking on the phone, it is NOT the time to want me to pose and shit. Wait like 1 minute and then I'll gladly oblige
- When I forget something at home that's pretty integral for a costume. Like my backless/strapless bra that I forgot at Katsucon one year, and had to buy a new one for 2x the price I paid for the first just so I could wear a damn costume.

Why am I in this hobby, again?

Show off your tattoos any other time, but if you are cosplaying a character with no tats, cover them. Wear coloured stockings, use body paint or that stuff specifically made to cover up tattoos...Is it really that hard. It's like peircings, take them out if your character doesn't have them. If you can't have them out long, get skin coloured ones (which exist for that very reason) or cover them with something like a small plaster/bandaid and make up, or replacing a "ball" on some of them with something clear...There are a whole bunch of ways to cover up piercings, and their holes if you take them out for the day, as well as tattoos...It really bugs me, especially when the costume and stuff is really good, it totally ruins the whole cosplay because it is so off-putting.

People on tumblr and in the cosplay community seem to romanticize introversion a LOT. First off the whole "either always introverted/extroverted" dynamic is absolute bullshit - people are outgoing when they're comfortable, and aren't when they're uncomfortable - and they seem to think that everyone who isn't introverted is out partying, doing drugs, drinking and getting pregnant while they, the intellectual introvert, is pondering enlightened musings in solitude.

I've begun to really hate tumblr recently. I don't know if it's just the people I follow, or if the whole place is like this, but everyone's attitude to everything seems to be real shit. Everyone has a superiority complex, while at the same time, they hate themselves. Anyone who doesn't participate in a fandom is suddenly a 'hipster', and if you do participate in a fandom, but don't indulge in shipping, you're worse than the hipsters. You're judged if you don't find something hilarious, because you don't share a sense of humour with that person, and therefore you are the enemy. Everyone's incredibly uninformed, but still think that they know better than everyone else. Everything has to be incredibly PC, and the slightest bit of criticism or critique makes you the devil.

And yeah, like you said, if you don't fall into the 'superior' group, you're an idiot, an imbecile, a pleb, a peasant, a moron etc.

Whenever people on tumblr talk politics, this is what I read everyone like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXl68kyt2sg

But yeah, a lot of people on tumblr seem obsessed with making everything into a case of "us vs them." I've even seen a few people calling themselves "tumblrians" which makes no sense at all. And overall much of the site tends to be overly dramatic, what with saying "OMG I CANT BREATH" at anything moderately amusing, acting like they're cool for spending all day on tumblr and acting like anything remotely negative is harassment. Sometimes I even wonder if tumblr is a bit of a girl's club in ways.

Oh well, I could just be butthurt at it.

I remember losing my shit when someone posted a photoset of "beautiful gay couples" to respond to some "GAYS R UGLY" thing someone did somewhere (I forget if it was Westboro or something). They had stuff like NPH and his husband, Elton John and his husband, ect and suddenly BAM! Dean Winchester and Castiel. I expected people to be calling them out on that shit for fetishizing gay men or something.

Nope, they were fucking applauding them and talking about how funny and "true" that was.

My memory is kinda fuzzy about that, I'll admit, but I remember getting really mad about how fucking stupid that was.

Omfg I saw that.
I don't care how much I watch Supernatural and like it I was livid at them fetishizing real people like that.
It's fucking creepy man.
Nobody on that website has any sense and they love to talk over one another with authority. People will reblog anything in bold with "SIGNAL BOOST" plastered across it. It really is a website for teenagers.

>Dean Winchester and Castiel
But Dean is 100% heterosexual. He's been shown to feel uncomfortable at being hit on by guys, and considering his promiscuity, he would know if he was into guys. He does seem a little flustered when meeting Dr Sexy, but I saw that more as a 'guy crush', similar to a 'girl crush' that straight women get when they think another is attractive.

I mean I always figured something like that (or just wanting to see their favorite character in a heterosexual relationship without competition - even a fictional one) but I never thought about it much more than that. Has there been actual stuff (preferably academic) stuff written about that? While it sounds dickish, reading stuff explaining why annoying people do the annoying things they do is somewhat cathartic. Not in a "HA HA IM RIGHT YOU'RE THE WEIRDO NOT ME" sense, more of "oh shit they have a reason for it, I should probably stop judging them" one

Wearing piercings with a character when the character doesn't wear them.

I thought corsets were an undergarment? Pictures from the 1800's always show women wearing them under their dresses and often they look pretty sexy
