Eh. While impressive from a distance, if you look closely at his costume it's kind of sloppy. Needs more sanding. The other mecha that won second(iirc?) looked much cleaner.

I was fangirling over their costumes so hard in the main entrance. I think it's sad they didn't get anything more than judges award, because their costumes were immaculate. That being said, their skit was pretty mediocre. Still wish they had gotten something better, because dat armor. Hnnnnng.

The costumes are actually pretty inaccurate (for instance, Zargabath's horns should be much longer, and they all have some sort of like, blunt edge near the chest). They look nice, but they could be way better.

>> No.6961340

The EVA cosplayer was a sore fucking loser.
He stormed out of the contest bitching that he lost and throwing a tantrum.

Just because your costume is big or a mech suit/armor doesn't automatically qualify you for an award. Sure, it was impressive from a distance and the stilts looked cool, but when you get up close and see the sloppy painting and craftsmanship, it suddenly becomes clear why he didn't win.

This year's masq started off so well, but when it came to showtime it all fell apart. Tony was hands-on and gracious with registration process, so I had good vibe about it. Then it all went down the shithole. Contestants were not allowed to step outside, not even for bathroom. Hell, all they gave us is a single sandwich and bottle of water, THAT WAS IT! And then there was the Alodia bullshit and how some of the awards were distributed weirdly. I have no idea how all of these could come apart so quick. Although considering how I've read from other threads about McKnight firing him on spot, it's safe to assume that McKnight fucked up the masq in the end.

>I'm not quite sure of all of what happened. I know that prizing was messed up for masquerade this year, but I don't know if it was him that did that. Allison McKnight found out about this prizing issue and fixed it. Something about only 2 old cosmode books..

>Prizing was suppose to be 2 years of cosmode, a pass for next years AX, for the top winners a $4k sewing machine(We had 2 of these to give away), and some other stuff.

>He also yelled rude commends backstage at Sarah, IE Division Manager.

>I do know of 3 other things, he was taking personal donations in the cosplay office.

>He asked me if he could spy on Japan Expo for us (I said no thanks) & when he quit, he asked all of his staff if they wanted jobs at JX, that he would be over there, or something along those lines. Honestly, it was the second one that had me upset.

No one was taking personal donations in the cosplay office. There was an empty coffee jar that had arts and crafts supplies like scissors that people started putting money into. By the time staff noticed it had some 15 bucks in it that nobody knew who it belonged to, since it had to have been attendees. The coffee mug did NOT have anything on it to suggest any tips either.

Sorry but that story is bullshit and is one of the excuses upper management used to fire Tony. It's strange enough to make up a story to get him fired, but it wasn't Tony's fault nor was it solicited.

I was in masq, and I didn't know they had sandwiches. They just told me they had water, and they ran out before everyone in my group could get one. Thank goodness we brought snacks backstage.

Tech rehearsals were so unorganized this year, too. None of the staff backstage knew what was going on, or who to talk to. I had issues getting all of our props backstage, too, because there was no room for anyone's props. We were originally told "oh yeah, you can have a dress rehearsal on stage", then they decided to let the two halftime shows rehearse in the middle of Masquerade contestant time. So then they told us "can you just put your props on and off stage?" After that, they messed up the order and forgot that we were going to go on stage; when I asked them when we were up, they said "just go on now, I don't care". So we went on, and they let us actually do a dress rehearsal. It was disorganized as fuck.

They did let us go in and out for bathroom during the show. I didn't really ask, though. I just went.

We couldn't hear anything backstage either. It sounded like that Charlie Brown "wahwahwah" with the echo from the huge room. It was so bad that when they called us up on stage for our award, we had no idea what the award was for, because the staff wouldn't tell us. We had to text our friends to ask what the hell was going on on stage.

>> No.6964409

cont

Then there was the prizing fiasco. First they were going to give us our prizes on stage, then they couldn't get their shit together. After Masq ended, they told contestants to stick around for another half hour to get their prize bags. So we stuck around waiting while getting our things organized to leave. After a half hour they said "aaaactually just come by tomorrow to get your stuff". Some people weren't happy with that, since they were only there for Saturday, or had to fly out the next day, but there wasn't anything the staff could do.

And then there was the contents of the prize bags themselves. We got a cosmode book, a bunch of plastic glasses, some promotional art thing, a poster, a little anime patch, and a bunch of advertising cards. Then, when we got our certificate, it had the wrong award on it - apparently AX decided not to give out a "best individual presentation", but was too lazy to print out another award, so they told us "just pretend it's your award".

I love performing in Masquerade, and our group's been doing it for about three years now, but this is the last time I do AX. The last AX I enjoyed was back in 2009, when we had all that room backstage, could pull up with our car backstage, and actually had some semblance of organization. (And we could hear what was going on.)

We're definitely only doing ALA from now on. At least there they've got things organized.

Wasn't trying to imply they were "picking on us". Just pointing out their lack of organization, to the point where they were just shoving people on stage without any real order to it. I'm sure we're not the only ones who were given twenty different sets of directions for tech rehearsal.

I know some people signed up for slots, then got told that "if you don't NEED to be on stage, then please take yourself off the list". So they did. Their choice, of course, but it still kind of sucks.
